THE ROAMIN’ TATTLER !~*~ A Guide to the Happening Local Events and the Eventful Local Happenings ~*~! ________________________ Joel Peterson Editor-in-Chief Always Free Issue 18 November 2019 Sullivan County Catskills Edition WJFF is Sullivan County’s public radio station. Broadcasting out of Jeffersonville New York, they offer a wide span of music, news and public affairs. In addition to airing National Public Radio shows, they also broadcast Pacifica Radio, shows from the BBC and a very eclectic mix of locally produced shows that cover all manner of music and dis- cussion. WJFF has been on the air since February of 1990, and may be the only completely hydropowered radio station in the United States. The station maintains a rich relationship with the local commu- nity. They host many happenings throughout the year. Barbeques, dances, yard sales, auctions and live music weekends among other events are greatly enjoyed by everyone who attends them. Perhaps their most anticipated fundraising event is the annual WJFF Music Sale. Held at the White Sulphur Springs Fire Hall on the Saturday of each Thanksgiving weekend, the sale features a silent auc- tion for a wide variety of donated audio components and musical instru- ments. There are music books and DVDs for sale as well, but it’s the vinyl records that really draw the crowds. Hundreds of used 45 rpm sin- gles, and thousands of used long playing records can be purchased for less than a dollar apiece, though some cherry-picked premium albums will sell for more. Due to entire collections being donated, often times a wide variety of titles by any given artist (or genre) can be found. Come early, and bring a box or bag to haul away your newfound treasures! All the shows are emblematic of the tight, high energy performances and musical peaks that the band was attaining at the time. The first three shows were recorded on 24 track tape. The final two, from 1991, were the only live shows of thousands that the band played, to have been recorded on 48 track analog tape. This means that each voice, instru- ment - in fact, each drum & cymbal, was carefully mixed into the final master for sparkling audio clarity that is miles above the average sound on a GD live recording. The perform- ances are sterling examples of the band’s capabilities on the ‘91 summer tour, which fea- tured virtuoso keyboardist Bruce Hornsby on grand piano. The 6/17/91 set is included on both CD and a choice of blu ray or DVD. Also available is that show as a stand alone 3 CD audio set, entitled Saint of Circumstance: Giants Stadium East Rutherford NJ 6/17/91. villaroma.com/roamin-tattler A Villa Roma Publication
