Reasons for the selection of Revithoussa

• Selection in the Poseidon-Med Programme against two other options:

– Installation of LNG tanks in the port of Piraeus

– Installation of a floating storage unit (FSU) outside the port of Piraeus.

Strong points of Revithoussa for small scale LNG activities

• At short distance from the port of Piraeus.

• Easy permitting of the additional infrastructure compared to grass-roots installations.

• Open access to all users without creating constraints to shipowners regarding their LNG suppliers.

• Experienced personnel proud of 16 years of safe operation.

• However, regarding Cyprus, possibly in competition with Hadera (IL) and Damietta (EG) terminals and certainly with the “interim solution” if this will go ahead.

Small scale LNG studies / works (future)

• October 2016: Submission of EIA study for the truck loading installation

• End 2016: Completion of tender documents for the EPC contract award for the truck loading

• End 2017: Possibility of loading of large LNG carriers (>20.000 m3) with a capacity of 2.500 m3 LNG/h

• early 2018: Possibility of loading of small LNG carriers with the addition of a new arm on the existing jetty

(feeder vessels or bunkering barges 1.000 to 20.000 m3)

• mid 2018: Start of operation of the truck loading station

Commercial vs. technical considerations

• Supply sources

– Revithoussa’s position is improved if we take into account the possible synergies with LNG supply to gas fired power plants in Crete and/or Rhodes.

– Units in those two islands (among other) can be converted to run with gas. The Power Corporation (PPC) is already investigating this option because of the EU Directive 2010/75/ΕΕ (IED) on emissions.
