There are two online module options for the update: “VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children Re-Certification for Adults – 5 th edition” (a slide presentation) or “Keeping the Promise Alive” (a video presentation). Either of the modules takes about 35 minutes to complete. In each lesson of the module, you will respond to a multiple choice question, review the lesson material, then affirm or change your answer to the question. Incorrect answers lead to a review and opportunity to re-answer the question. The last frame in either module allows you to print a Certificate of Completion. You are only required to complete one of the modules. To complete your recertification go to www.Virtusonline.org and log into your Virtus account with your User ID and password. DO NOT create a new account. If you do not remember your password, you can change it on the website, using the email address used when your initial training was completed. If you do not remember your User ID (or the email address used, if you need to change your password), contact Nancy Blake via email ([email protected]), and she will assist you. Once you are logged-in, click “See available training modules” in the column on the left. Select the module you plan to complete - this would be either the first or last box - (be careful not to select a Spanish version!), and then click the “Assign Training” button at the bottom of the list. Complete your module, and print your certificate when prompted in the final frame. If you have questions or encounter any problems with the site or the module, contact Nancy. Please complete your recertification as soon as possible and then submit your certificate to Nancy at the Parish Office. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Reading 1: Is 55:6–9 Seek the L while he may be found, call him while he is near. Let the scoundrel forsake his way, and the wicked his thoughts; let him turn to the L for mercy; to our God, who is generous in forgiving. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the L . As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts. Responsorial Psalm: Ps 145:2–3, 8–9, 17–18 R. (18a) The Lord is near to all who call upon him. Every day will I bless you, and I will praise your name forever and ever. Great is the L and highly to be praised; his greatness is unsearchable. R. The Lord is near to all who call upon him. The L is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness. The L is good to all and compassionate toward all his works. R. The Lord is near to all who call upon him. The L is just in all his ways and holy in all his works. The L is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth. R. The Lord is near to all who call upon him.  Reading 2: Phil 1:20c–24, 27a Brothers and sisters: Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me life is Christ, and death is gain. If I go on living in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. And I do not know which I shall choose. I am caught between the two. I long to depart this life and be with Christ, for that is far better. Yet that I remain in the flesh is more necessary for your benefit.

Gospel: Mt 20:1–16a Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard. Going out about nine o’clock, the landowner saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and he said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.’ So they went off. And he went out again around noon, and around three o’clock, and did likewise. Going out about five o’clock, the landowner found others standing around, and said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They answered, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard.’ When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Summon the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first.’ When those who had started about five o’clock came, each received the usual daily wage. So when the first came, they thought that they would receive more, but each of them also got the usual wage. And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner, saying, ‘These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who bore the day’s burden and the heat.’ He said to one of them in reply, ‘My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?’ Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.” Excerpts from the Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States of America, second typical edition © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, Inc., Washington, DC. Today’s Readings: 25th Sunday In Ordinary Time

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,

Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,

Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High,

Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Staying Connected This year, the Church celebrates Catechetical Sunday on September 20th. The 2020 theme is “I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you”. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful time to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being witnesses to the Gospel. This is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.

Vocation Corner

Faith Formation

This week, we’ll identify the final but most important resource we use as we seek God’s Will in our lives – and that is ourselves. It’s a challenge to see God’s Will for our future, but as we look back on our lives, it’s easy to see God working in and through our everyday experiences. St. Paul tells us that “all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose" (Rom 8:28). In addition, the Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that people have a "natural desire for happiness” (no. 1718). That means the good desires in our hearts are from God to guide us to Him, where they will be fulfilled. If you want to know God's will for you, look into your heart and do your heart’s desire while keeping close to God in prayer and staying connected to the Church. This will lead you to God, even if it doesn’t feel like it at first. ....And just a quick reminder: Next Sunday (September 27th) is Priesthood Sunday. Be sure to pray for our Priests – Father Tony, Father Vincent, and Father Anthony – in a special way, and if you're able, send them a note thanking them for all that they do for our parishes. --- The Vocation Ministry Team

S M C 2021 Beginning the first weekend of October, Mass and Candle Intentions for 2021 will be accepted. ALL 2021 intentions should be submitted to the Parish Office by using the scheduling form and returning the form to the Parish Office via the collection basket or mail. Please do not call the Parish Office to schedule 2021 intentions, as the forms are marked when they are received with the date and time, and the intentions are scheduled accordingly on a first come-first served basis. The first weekend in October, the Intention Forms, along with the Scheduling Policies, will be placed at the church entrances and will be posted on the parish website (www.faysouth.org). For those who do not have access to a computer or are not attending Mass at this time due to COVID-19, the Parish Office will mail out Intention Forms with Policies upon request, but not prior to the first weekend in October. Please read the Mass Scheduling Policies before filling out your form. It is also helpful to look at a 2021 calendar prior to choosing dates as Mass requests are not accepted for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Weekend, Mother’s Day Weekend/Father’s Day Weekend, Thanksgiving Day, All Saints Day, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day. Weekday Masses are celebrated as follows: October through March at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Parishes; and April through September at St. Mary Nativity and St. Therese Parishes. Keep these locations in mind when making your weekday choices. Due to the high volume of requests in comparison with the limited number of available dates, our policies state that Mass intentions are limited to two requests per household (not two requests for each of your deceased loved ones). These two Masses may be one weekday and one weekend, or two weekday Masses. This allows more parishioners the opportunity to request Masses, along with providing room in the schedule to remember those who pass away next year. In order to avoid a backlog of Masses that cannot be satisfied in a reasonable amount of time, it becomes necessary to send Masses to the Diocesan Mission Office for distribution, or to another parish in need of Masses. If your loved one has Masses recorded in the Parish Mass Register (Masses that were turned in at the time of the funeral), it is appropriate to designate them for use. Simply write in “Use Funeral Mass” when filling out your Mass Intention Form. No offering is required for these Masses, as payment was made when they were turned in. While no 2021 requests are being accepted over the telephone at this time, you may contact the Parish Office to check if your deceased loved one has Masses remaining in the Mass Register.

V N : Our four parishes are in need of Hospitality Ministry Volunteers to help sanitize the churches after Masses. If you are able to help, please call Rita Rae at the Parish Office (724)437-4441. 31 A R W : Everyone is invited to join the Annual Rosary Walk this Sunday, September 20th, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at St. George Maronite Catholic Church on Lebanon Terrace, Uniontown, and proceeding to the following Catholic Churches: St. John the Baptist Byzantine, St. John the Evangelist, St. Therese, St. Mary Nativity, and concluding at St. Joseph. The Rosary will be prayed outdoors at all locations, except the concluding prayers will be held inside St. Joseph Church, adhering to all CDC guidelines. S C F C : Next weekend is the Seminarian and Clergy Formation Collection throughout the Diocese of Greensburg. Please prayerfully consider making a financial gift in support of our Seminarians, our men who are preparing for the Permanent Diaconate, for the ongoing formation of our clergy, and for our International Priests serving throughout the Diocese of Greensburg. Please respond using the tear-off portion of the letter that was mailed to you, by using the special collection envelope in your packet from the parish, or online at www.dioceseofgreensburg.org. We ask you to accompany the seminarians and clergy of our diocese by your prayerful support. Baskets for this appeal will be provided at the parishes next weekend to receive your donations.
