ONE SOLITARY LIFE ……. HAS CHANGED EVERYTHING.

December 24th and 25th Page Three

He was born in an obscure village

The child of a peasant woman He grew up in another obscure village Where he worked in a carpenter shop

Until he was 30 He never wrote a book He never held an office

He never went to college He never visited a big city

He never travelled more than 200 miles From the place where he was born

He did none of the things Usually associated with greatness He had no credentials but himself

He was only 33 His friends ran away

One of them denied him He was turned over to his enemies

And went through the mockery of a trial He was nailed to a cross between two thieves

While dying, his executioners gambled for his clothing The only property he had on Earth

When he was dead He was laid in a borrowed grave

Through the pity of a friend Nineteen centuries have come and gone

And today, Jesus is the central figure of the human race And the leader of mankind's progress All the armies that have ever marched

All the navies that have ever sailed All the parliaments that have ever sat

All the kings that ever reigned put together Have not affected the life of mankind on Earth

As powerfully as that one solitary life.

Merry Christmas…… as we celebrate the gift of the One who has given true value and meaning to every life, may God bless you with increased faith, hope and joy. Prayer filled best wishes for God’s choicest blessings in 2017. Peace, Fr. Richard

READINGS FOR NEXT SUNDAY

St. Vincent de Paul Parish will have a bus going to Washington DC for the March For Life on Friday, January 27. Please mark your calendar and pick up a flyer in the narthex or at the Parish House.

The cost is $20 for teens and seniors and $25 for adults. Please contact Danielle Dill for more information 908-578-2712.

Faith Formation for 1st through 8th grades resumes on January 8th. We will begin with Eucharistic Adoration immediately following the 10:30AM and 6PM Masses in the church. Fr. Richard will provide a catechesis on Eucharistic Adoration and lead all in adoring Jesus through prayer,

song and meditation. This is an important opportunity to contemplate the amazing gift Jesus gives of Himself in the Eucharist to each one of us. Each session will be one hour. All parishioners are invited to attend.

GETTING READY FOR SUNDAY

Join Fr. Richard for a deeper insight into the Scriptures for Sunday Mass. Let the texts come alive for you by gaining an understanding of their context and the culture within which they were written. Discussions are on-going every Thursday at 2pm to 3:30 pm and repeated from 7:30pm to 9pm in the Pastoral Center Library. We will not meet Thursday, December 29th. Sessions resume on Thursday, January 5th.

BOOK CLUB SERIES WITH SR. ELSA

Mondays from 9:15am to 10:45am join Sr. Elsa’s Book Club series in the Pastoral Center Library. Come and participate with Sr. Elsa as she leads the discussion from Praying with Women of the Bible featuring women from the Old and New Testament. Every Monday a

different woman from the Bible will be discussed utilizing scripture, prayer and raising questions from our own lives. The Book Club will not meet on Monday, December 26th or January 2nd. Sessions resume on Monday, January 9th.

NEW ADOPTION LAW December 31 is the last chance for women who gave their children up for adoption to be made aware of the change in the adoption law of New Jersey. They can receive more information by calling 866-649-8726 ext. 582.

MARCH FOR LIFE 2017 First Reading: Numbers 6:22-27 The Lord told Aaron to bestow his blessings on the Israelites. God wanted them to know that by invoking his name they would be blessed by him.

Second Reading: Galatians 4:4-7 Paul describes how through Jesus’ birth, we have been delivered from the laws that exiled Gentiles from God’s community. Through Jesus, the Gentiles became God’s adopted sons and would receive the same blessings that the Jewish converts had been promised.

Gospel: Luke 2:16-21 The shepherds went to Bethlehem to see Jesus and immediately understood all that they had been told about him. They praised God for what they had seen, and Jesus was given the name that the angel had chosen for him.
