All Souls Day Mass
On the night of All Soul’s Day, Wednesday, November 2nd, there will be a special Mass, celebrated at 7:00 pm, for all deceased. If you have a deceased loved one, that you would like prayers for, during the Mass, please bring in a photograph of your loved one to be placed around the altar. You will have the opportunity to place a candle in front of the photo. If you are interested, please bring your pictures (preferably in a frame, but not necessary) to the Parish office by Nov. 1st.

THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Wisdom 11:22—12:2 In this reading, we are reminded of the love God feels toward every creature, or else he would not have created them. God shows mercy on our sins and hopes we will repent and have faith in him. Second Reading: 2 Thessalonians 1:11—2:2 Paul tells the Thessalonians that God will make them worthy of his call, so that they can be glorified in Christ. Paul also tells them he is unsure when Christ will come again, but urges them not to believe people who falsely state that Jesus has returned. Gospel: Luke 19:1-10 Zacchaeus, the wealthy chief tax collector in Jericho, was very excited when Jesus came to town and asked to stay with him. People were angry that Jesus would go to a sinner's home. Zacchaeus then told Jesus he planned to give half of his belongings to the poor, and repay any person he had cheated. Jesus was delighted since his mission was "to search out and save what was lost."

Lover of Souls Our Lord is a lover of souls, the Liturgy shows us today. As we sing in today's Psalm, He is slow to anger and compassionate towards all that He has made. In His mercy, our First Reading tells us, He overlooks our sins and ignorance, giving us space that we might repent and not perish in our sinfulness. (see Wisdom 12:10; 2 Peter 3:9). In Jesus, He has become the Savior of His children, coming himself to save the lost (see Isaiah 63:8-9; Ezekiel 34:16). In the figure of Zacchaeus in today's Gospel, we have a portrait of a lost soul. He is a tax collector, by profession a "sinner" excluded from Israel's religious life. Not only that, he is a "chief tax collector." Worse still, he is a rich man who has apparently gained his living by fraud. But Zacchaeus' faith brings salvation to his house. He expresses his faith in his fervent desire to "see" Jesus, even humbling himself to climb a tree just to watch Him pass by. While those of loftier religious stature react to Jesus with grumbling, Zacchaeus receives Him with joy. Zacchaeus is not like the other rich men Jesus meets or tells stories about (see Luke 12:16-21; 16:19-31; 18:18-25). He repents, vowing to pay restitution to those he has cheated and to give half of his money to the poor. By his humility he is exalted, made worthy to welcome the Lord into his house. By his faith, he is justified, made a descendant of Abraham (see Romans 4:16-17). As He did last week, Jesus is again using a tax collector to show us the faith and humility we need to obtain salvation. We are also called to seek Jesus daily with repentant hearts. And we should make our own Paul's prayer in today's Epistle: that God might make us worthy of His calling, that by our lives we might give glory to the name of Jesus.

ADULT BIBLE STUDY
The Adult Bible Study meets regularly, every other Thursday. Our next session will be on Nov. 3rd. We will be discussing the last lesson of Isaiah, Chapters 62-66. We have chosen St. Paul’s letters to the Galatians as our next book to study. As always, newcomers are always welcome. We will meet from 7:30 until 9:00pm in Rm. 10 of the Religious Education Building.

Responsibilities include preparing choir for one (1) weekly Sunday mass; providing music for sacramental liturgies, Holy Week and Christmas; preparing a youth choir for special events, including Christmas Eve. Qualifications: must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in music; skill in choral conducting; ability to foster active congregational participation; proficiency in organ or keyboard desirable. Angel Giving Tree 2016 The St. Patrick’s Angel Giving Tree is a lovely Advent tradition that spreads Christmas joy by giving us the opportunity to fulfill gift wishes for families throughout our community. Sacred Heart Parish Outreach Warming Station
Chapel of Sacred Heart 151 Stage Rd., Monroe, NY
Sacred Heart Warming Station will be opening, beginning Tuesday, November 15th, 2016 at 9:00pm. A warming station is a place where those, who have nowhere to go, can escape the cold, enjoy a hot meal, or a bowl of soup, and a cup of coffee. The Chapel of the Sacred Heart is a heated facility where those in need of comfort can find refuge from extreme cold weather. It is a place where we can then make referrals to those existing agencies, within the community, that can provide a more permanent solution to homelessness. We are currently seeking volunteers to help with this ministry. HONOR Housing of Middletown (Helping Others Needing Our Resources) will help us by providing technical assistance. Training will be given to all the volunteers. Training dates are held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Middletown at 7:00pm on West Main St, please use the Mulberry St. entrance. Dates are Monday, October 24th and Monday, November 28th. This informational session takes place at the Middletown Warming Center, which has been operating for the past 8 years. Additionally, there will be a meeting for all volunteers at the Chapel of the Sacred Heart on Wednesday, November 9th at 7:30pm where we will explain the procedures specific to our program. Volunteers will be responsible for screening, logging in, welcoming and serving a meal for guests and will remain overnight. Doors will open at 9:00pm and be locked by 9:30pm. If a guest leaves, he/she is not permitted to return until the next evening. Substance abuse will not be tolerated. The police will be aware of our program. All will leave the premises by 7am. We anticipate serving between 5 and 10 guests per night. Males and Females will be separated. The Warming Center operates from November 15th through March 31st. This opportunity is open to adults of all faiths and would welcome the participation of our surrounding houses of worship. Background checks and completion of a “Safer Spaces” course is mandatory.
