FIRST LUMINOUS MYSTERY
The Baptism of Jesus
When Jesus was a young man, He went to the
River Jordan. We can see John the Baptist
pouring water on His head. The Holy Spirit, in
the form of a dove, hovers above His sacred
head. God’s voice comes from Heaven, saying,
“This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well
pleased.” Although Jesus was born without
sin, He wanted to be baptized to give us a
perfect example of humility and obedience.
Baptism cleansed us form the stain of original
sin, and made us God’s children. Do I keep my
soul clean to please God?

SECOND LUMINOUS MYSTERY
The Wedding Feast at Cana
Jesus, His Blessed Mother, and His disciples
were invited to a wedding at Cana. After the
marriage ceremony there was a big banquet
with all sorts of good things to eat and drink.
But unfortunately there wasn’t enough wine.
So Mary told her divine Son about it. After a
while, Jesus ordered the servants to fill six
stone jars with water. If you have been one of
those lucky servants you would have seen the
clear water changed to an excellent wine!
That was a miracle. But another and great one
happens every day at Mass. What is it?

THIRD LUMINOUS MYSTERY
The Proclamation of the
Kingdom of God
Jesus in his preaching proclaimed the coming
of the Kingdom of God, “The time is fulfilled,
and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent,
and believe in the Gospel." He explained the
mystery of the Kingdom through parables,
such as the mustard seed and the precious
pearl. Jesus was preaching a message of
mercy, calling all of us to turn our hearts to
God to ask for forgiveness. We find this mercy
particularly in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

FOURTH LUMINOUS MYSTERY
The Transfiguration
Jesus took Peter, James and John to the top of
Mount Tabor to pray. As Jesus was praying,
His face was transformed, shining like the sun,
and His clothes became whiter than snow.
Moses and Elijah appeared and were talking to
Jesus. A bright cloud came over them and a
voice from the cloud said “This is my Beloved
Son in Whom I am well pleased; listen to
Him.”The glory of God shines from Jesus. The
Transfiguration was preparing the apostles for
the passion and death of Jesus, and also giving
a glimpse of His glorious resurrection.

FIFTH LUMINOUS MYSTERY
The Institution of the
Eucharist
On Holy Thursday, our Lord ate His last meal
before He died for us on the Cross. At this
supper, He blessed some bread and broke it
into pieces. These He gave to His disciples
saying, “This is My Body….” Then He blessed
some wine in a chalice, and giving it to His
disciples, He said, “This is My Blood….” This
was the first Mass. Jesus has come down on
earth from Heaven at every Mass since then.
He comes to me when I receive Holy
Communion. How shall I receive Him worthily?
