Note: The Europe portion is short because it’s more expensive. The U.S.A.-Canada portion is long because that’s where I am doing most part of my research about alternative education. Australia may be done in the future depending on the finances. Instead of Europe, Africa may be done after U.S.A. If budget doesn’t allow, we can postpone Europe to a further future date. The trip to the 4 countries south of Yunnan may be replaced with just trips within China. In short, nothing is set in stone and the plan is flexible.

Nestled in a lush green Italian forest, the Ai Pioppi Playground began as a hobby meant to promote a small restaurant has evolved over 40 years of creation into a stunning home-brewed amusement park full of one-of-a-kind rides, all built by one man.

Over the next 40 years, Bruno continued to design and build increasingly complex rides with more and more moving parts, although all without power. From a tumbling, swinging bridge to giant merry-go-rounds to contraptions that nearly defy easy description, the collection of dreamt up amusements grew. Bruno says he got the inspiration for his builds from the movement of the constantly encroaching nature all around.

There are now more than 700 Waldkindergärten (forest nurseries) in Germany, out of a total of 25,335 kindergartens across the whole country, and the number is rising rapidly as parents team up to found new ones. While the idea, in which children up to the age of six spend half of each day outside, in all weathers - playing, learning, building, exploring, climbing trees, getting dirty or close to wildlife and generally forgoing the usual structured classroom environment - sounds experimental and hippyish, it in fact marks a return to the roots of German education.

Curitiba has a radical approach to city planning, unique not only within Brazil but also globally.

The simplified North and South America routes. The U.S.A./ Canada journey can be cut into east and west parts and we can just fly to Minnesota to see relatives and friends there. I hope this is enough to reduce the trip time to 7 months instead of 8 – 10. The South America leg can also be shortened so it can be done in 5 months instead of 6.
