BRANCH ACCOUNTS 1
Make sure you are helping your Treasurer all
you can in compiling the accounts.
Submission time will soon be upon us. Make
sure the actual reporting forms balance when
you sign them off at your AGM – do not just
assume.
MEMBERSHIP FORMS
There is a shortage of these at the moment.
New MEM 20s are being printed so these
will be used in the future. I have an
electronic form of the MEM 4 if you wish.
Online joining reduces the need for paper!
BRANCH ACCOUNTS 2
We hope to target the correct branches for R&P
forms and Account forms to save duplication.
Copy of this and relevant bank statements will
need to be sent to County only. They will not
be accepted without bank statements.
NEW ONLINE ACCOUNTING SYSTEM
This is to be used by Counties this year and
will be rolled out to those branches who
wish to use it. Training will be arranged for
Treasurers wishing to get involved. Please
let Peter Gipson know if you are interested.
CONFERENCE MOTIONS
Get those moans and groans written down
and agreed in branch meetings. I will be
sending out formal paperwork early August
after the Conference Committee Meeting July
29th.
EMAIL ADDRESSES
Please when you fill in your MS1’s, can you
please put any email addresses on, even if
it is a family member’s. A lot of information
I send out has a very short time frame so it
is only people with email that receive it and
can action.
STANDARD BEARERS COMPETITIONS
Adult RBL standards competition –
Sunday 25th September
Youth Standards Competition- October 9th
Please encourage all to participate.
CHAIRMANS SEMINAR
This will be held on Sunday October 2nd
at Stowmarket RBL Club. All chairmen
are invited to attend or to send a branch
representative. The speaker will be the
new Head of Membership, Bob Gamble
who is a very inspirational speaker-
Form enclosed to branches.
MEMBERSHIP CARDS
Only one will be issued free per year. £2.50 to
replace or letter confirming membership.
Return unused cards by first class post with
certificate of posting.
Credits will run over on account – no refunds
A new Membership Guide is being printed.
The DD failure process will be simplified so
branches will know much earlier (hopefully).
RBL CLOTHING
If you require any further copies of the
brochure I sent out last issue, please
ask. I have had only one reply so far. If
we want to recruit and communicate
with a younger generation, we need to
be out there in a more relaxed manner.
BRANCH FUNDS INITIATIVE
As Trustees of TRBL, officers should be
ensuring that best practice is followed at all
times and this means getting best interest on
savings. BFI gets 3.05% and you can draw
back any money simply by post.

Wilkinson’s Stores Helping Hands Initiative
Local Wilkinson’s Stores have a budget to donate
to local organisations and charities via their
scheme called Helping Hands. The best approach
would be for branches to seek support by
obtaining an application form from their local
Wilkinson’s stores.

Tamsin Comrie is researching a BBC documentary
about entertainment during WW2, and I'm looking to
speak to people who have memories of ENSA (the
Entertainment National Service Association).
Whether you were an ENSA performer or a member of
the Forces who might have seen a show or heard a
radio broadcast, any memories or thoughts on this
subject would be gratefully received. If you don't
remember ENSA, but know someone who might,
please feel free to pass on this message to them.
I can be contacted by email on
[email protected], or by telephone on 020
857 63273. Our programme has a focus on ENSA, but
I’m interested in hearing everything about anything.

From National Conference:
Who is the Unknown Soldier?
He is the one who led the way so the general could
make it home. She is the one who saved the child and
was left to die alone.
His dreams were cut off by his untimely death; her
innocence shattered by her last shallow breath.
He is the voice that echoes our pride; she is the eyes
that for our freedom, cried.
He is the rain that waters our souls; she is the river
holding secrets untold.
He’s in the wave crashing Normandy’s shore; she’s on
the wind over Dieppe once more.
He’s in the song that Passchendaele sand; she’s in the
bell from which freedom rang.
His death was a pledge prayers cannot suffice; her life,
a gift, at the ultimate price.

WESTMINSTER ABBEY 90TH SERVICE
Tuesday 20th September
The Chairman received 27 tickets for this and a branch
draw took place at the recent Management Meeting
to decide recipients and these have now been
contacted.
KNITTED HATS FOR OUR TROOPS
Only 100% pure wool is allowed for these hats due to fire / accident risk whilst troops are on
patrol. Other wools will stick to the skin.
The WOOL BAND has to be handed in along with the completed hats (any leftover wool can
also be handed in as this will go towards knitting other hats) so the troops will know what the
hats are made from. We will photocopy any extra bands required as one and a bit hats can be
made out of a 50g ball of wool.
The colour of the wool is also important. Colours such as black, grey, sandy, dark green, beige
(or similar colours) are suitable. Bright colours are not suitable as they would make the troops
obvious targets.
Please send your completed hat(s) (along with the wool bands and any spare wool) to:-

some kindling wood, which would you light first?
4 Take two apples from 3 apples, What would you have?
