The San Fernando Teaching Hospital - This 18-Level facility formerly earmarked
for office and retail space, was retrofitted and converted into a state-of-the-art,
ultra-modern teaching hospital, as a crucially needed extension to the San
Fernando General Hospital. It was project managed by state-owned company,
the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited
(UDeCOTT). The Hospital was built and retrofitted to 17 North American and
British Codes and Standards, meeting and exceeding all requirements for an
essential building, for continued operations after a seismic event.

Some of the modern medical features at the new San Fernando Teaching
Hospital include:
Medical Vinyl which traps and kills bacteria, mold etc hence these cannot
multiply/grow;
Ceiling Tiles which absorb dust particles;
Fixtures supported off the wall rather than being mounted from the
ground, which will facilitate easy cleaning and access beneath the
fixtures.
The San Fernando Teaching Hospital has a total useable space of 368,725 square
feet.

Construction of the Bed Lift/Elevator Tower and Bridge Link
To ensure seamless and safe patient care, joining the two hospital facilities with
proper access to all wards on the various levels, became a focal point of this
very precise, technical and labour intensive driven project. It is with this focus
that crucial construction of the Bridge Link, often called the Skywalk and the
Bed Lift Tower commenced. The net result is that patients will benefit from very
modern patient care and shared services across the two hospital facilities.
