We now begin a section of the Gospel according to Matthew that speaks of Journeys and Community Faith. This Sunday we hear of the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and the fish. On following Sundays we hear of Jesus telling Peter to come to him on the water; of Jesus’ exclamation to the crowd when a woman shouts out “Blessed is the womb that carried you”; the Canaanite woman who came to Jesus to beg for her daughter’s healing; Simon being given the name Peter (“Rock”) and Jesus conferring on him the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and of the prediction of his Passion and the message of the cross: “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny

himself.” As we begin this new section of Matthew’s Gospel, ask God for the grace to advance on your own journey of faith and to grow in an awareness of the communal dimension of faith. May the Holy Spirit guide

you in prayer and love this week.

The 2014 Diocese of Arlington Altar Server Picnic is scheduled for Tuesday, August 12th at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston from 10:00am-2:00pm. All Saints Parish invites all current servers to attend.

There will be sports and games, and a gourmet feast of food and a variety of other snacks and desserts.

All servers must sign up at the parish office ASAP. Required parent and guardian permission slips can be picked up at the Parish Office. We need one adult for every 10 servers. If you are a parent of a server and would like to chaperone or drive,

please note that on the sign-up sheet in the Parish Office. All

chaperones must be VIRTUS certified!

The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven will be celebrated on Friday, August 15th and is a Holy Day of Obligation.

A Vigil Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 14th at 7:30pm and on Friday, August 15th at 7:00am, 8:30am, Noon, 5:30pm and 7:30pm (Spanish).

When Mary’s earthly life ended and she was taken bodily into heaven, she became the model for all of us who seek the fullness of God’s presence in heaven promised in the Paschal mystery.

The Cancer Prayer and Support Group will meet again in September as there will be no meeting in August. This ministry is for people with cancer and also cancer survivors.

Grief/Bereavement “Jesus Wept”

The Bethany Food Pantry is regularly assisting some 300 families in the Manassas community. The pantry, located in the Parish Activities Center, is open to clients on Tuesday from 5:00-8:00pm and Friday mornings from 9:00am-11:30am. We strive to assist with nutritional meals for these families every two weeks. With this in mind, donations of high nutritional value are needed. At this time, we are especially in need of the following:

• rice canned chicken and meat • dry beans potatoes • oatmeal fruit • vegetable oil baking and pancake mix • corn flour and white flour milk

• In addition, we are now able to accept dairy, fresh produce and meats.

If you would like to donate items needing cold storage, please contact Vickie Taylor at (703) 368-4500 x183 to schedule a drop off. Your non-perishable donations to the pantry can be left in one of the wooden bins located near each door of the church or call so that we can best accommodate the delivery. WHO IS RCIA/RCIA FOR? An adult/youth (over the age of eight) who was baptized Catholic, but has not been catechized to receive any other Sacraments.

An adult/youth (over the age of eight) who has been baptized into a different faith or Church.

An adult/youth (over the age of eight) who has never been baptized and is just beginning the faith journey.

It is for adults and young people from all walks of life and faith backgrounds who are curious about the Catholic Church and who have at some time and at some level considered joining and becoming full members.

WHAT IS RCIA/RCIC? The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults/Children (RCIA/RCIC) is a process of information and formation guided by the Gospel Word and the example of the community of believers. The Rite of Christian Initiation welcomes new Catholics into a church that is alive in the love of Christ.

WHEN DOES RCIA/RCIC MEET? Adult Inquirers meet on Monday evenings. Families with young people meet on Wednesdays or Thursdays beginning with Parent Sessions in September.

WHERE DOES RCIA/RCIC MEET? All groups meet in the Father Kelley Hall in the school.

WHY RCIA/RCIC? Why not? So they left their nets and followed him. (John 1:38-39) Jesus told his followers he would make them fishers of men. And so he did. We’ll be waiting at the dock for you. How cool is that?

The Benedictine Sisters of Virginia are pleased to announce the opening of the Place of Peace Columbarium on the grounds of Saint Benedict Monastery in Bristow. Registración para Educación Religiosa

All Saints ofrece Educación Religiosa en Inglés para niños en Pre-K - 8 º grado y bilingüe en Pre-K - 6 º grado. Las clases empezaran en la tercera semana de septiembre y la fecha lími-te de inscripción será el 3 de septiembre! Para registrarse elija una de la siguientes maneras: bajando la forma de la pagina web de educación religiosa, www.allsaintsreligiouseducation.org o tomando la registración en el vestíbulo de la iglesia, o viniendo a la oficina de Educación Reli-giosa, (la oficina esta abierta de lunes a viernes de 9:00 a 4:00pm y se cierra de 12:00 a 1:00pm para el almuerzo).

Programa de Iniciación Cristiana para niños y Adultos RICA/N

Si un niño o Adulto necesita recibir sacramen-tos y habla y entienden bien el español este programa es el indicado. En estas clases los niños que están en tercer grado hasta el nove-no grado reciben sacramentos. Los adultos también reciben cualquier Sacramento que les haga falta. Campamento de Verano

Atención Jóvenes, La Escuela de Liderazgo los invita a un campamento de verano en Hunting Ridge Retreat, Winchester, VA. La fecha para las chicas es del 9 al 16 de agosto y el de chi-cos del 16 al 23 de agosto. Picnic para los Monaguillos

El Picnic de la Diócesis para los Monaguillos está programado para el martes, 12 de agos-to en el parque Lake Fairfax en Reston, de 10:00 am a 2: 00pm. All Saints invita a todos los servidores del altar actuales. Habrá deportes, juegos, comida y una varie-dad de aperitivos y postres. Todos los servi-dores deben inscribirse en la oficina de la pa-rroquia antes del lunes, 1 de agosto.

Clases de Ingles

Caridades Católicas-Hogar Immigrant Services ofrece clases de inglés de lunes a jueves por la mañana (9:00 a 10:30) y por la noche (6:00-7:30 o 7:30-9:00). La inscripción para las clases será el 4, 5 y 6 de agosto de 10:00am-12:00pm o 6:00-8:00. Varios niveles de clase están disponi-bles. El costo es de $125.00 por semestre e incluye el libro. Gran Celebración de la Asunción de la Virgen María

Invitamos a la comunidad este domingo 17 de Agosto después de misa de 1:30pm a celebrar a nuestra Madre Santísima. Habrá comida, música, prédica con un invitado especial, pro-cesión a la Virgen, bendición de imágenes (traer su imagen) y terminaremos con una Hora Santa. Comenzaremos a las 2:45pm en el Centro de Actividades de la Iglesia (PAC). Invita Ministerios de la Iglesia de Todos los santos y Radio María.
