The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Since The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards was founded in 1923, it has recognized such creative teenagers as Andy Warhol, Robert Redford, Sue Miller, Richard Avedon, Philip Pearlstein, Sylvia Plath, Joyce Carol Oates and Zac Posen, who all received Art & Writing Awards when they were in high school. See America’s next generation of cultural movers and shakers, presented by The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. 2009 National Exhibition From June 4 through June 24, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards National Exhibition is on view at the World Monuments Fund Gallery, Parsons: Aronson Gallery, and at Scholastic’s headquarters in SoHo. Representing 16 visual arts categories, including painting, sculpture, design, video and film, this year’s exhibition was chosen from thousands of works of art submitted by 7th-12th graders throughout the country. An audio tour of the young artists discussing their work will be also available to visitors. The Gallery Project During the month of June, New York City galleries will showcase artwork by emerging artists recognized nationally by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Each gallery will feature an Award-winning piece from the 2008 Awards. The Project is included in the Summer 2009 issue of MAP ForYourArt, which will be available in print at participating galleries and online at www.foryourart.com. 2009 National ExhibitionFrom June 4 through June 24, the Scholastic Art &
