What people thoughtWhat people thought1500 1750

Everything is God’s will. The Earth is the

centre of the Universe. Medicine is controlled by the 4 humours – blood, yellow bile, black bile and phlegm.

Luckily by 1750 we have worked out that most of that is tosh. Science is

key. The Sun is the centre of the Universe and the best way of

finding out about medicine is by dissection.

What you have to work out though is when we came about these ideas and also who thought of

them.

The Printing Press was introduced to Britain. This makes it easier for scientists to read about the latest scientific discoveries.

Scientists met to share their discoveries. One important group in Britain was the Royal Society.

Can you remember how ideas changed between

1500 and 1750?

Write an overview of what changed during

this time in your exercise books.

Don’t forget to put the date and the title ‘The Scientific Revolution’

See if you can remember when events happened using the

picture prompts.

Create a timeline of discovery in your books – write in the event

next to each date.
