Happy Holidays to All!!!!!!!!! This time of the year is easily my favorite- a time to spend time with family and friends, reflect on the passing of another year, and simply the enjoy the many activities available to us here at our Club. Breakfast with Santa, the gingerbread workshop, the decorating of the family Christmas tree, and the New Years Eve celebration are a few of the fun filled events that are just around the corner.

Don’t forget your Club pro shops for ALL your holiday shopping needs. The golf and tennis shops are well stocked and have something for every budget and taste. Gift certificates for a massage or fitness training

are wonderful stocking stuffers.

Look for some special news in the January 2012 newsletter. The Club has several exciting promotions that will begin with the New Year that I’m certain will be appealing to all of the membership. As a reminder, effective January 1, 2012 all credit cards on file will be debited the first of each month for club dues and charges. All other Club accounts are due and payable by the 10th of each month. The Club will close at 12:00pn on Christmas Eve and be closed all day on Christmas. It will be business as usual on News Years Eve and New Years Day. I wish you and yours a Joyous Holiday Season and a most prosperous New Year!!

As always, I look forward to seeing you at YOUR Club.

SERVING IT UP With Paul Smith

Dear Members, hope you all had a great Thanksgiving weekend and were able to spend it with family and or close friends. I just want to take this opportunity to tell you how excited I am to be your Director of Tennis. After 29 winters in Kansas, I am excited to enjoy both some warmer weather and Florida hospitality. I have several goals but the main 4 are: 1) Make your experience at the club an enjoyable one. 2) Leave a lesson or clinic having learned something from it and hopefully make you a better Tennis Player. 3) Increase participation in all Tennis events. 4) Increase growth of the Membership. I have been to MANY tennis facilities in the USA and around the World and you as members have a tremendous Tennis facility here at CCO to enjoy. I am very aware of the need for some changes to make it even better. The court resurfacing on 1, 2 and 3 will make those courts more of a pleasure to play on. I want to give you many activities through out the year, so please sign up and enjoy what we have to offer. On Friday Dec 16th we will have a social rotational Mixed Doubles evening of Tennis from 5:30 till 8:00pm. You may sign up either as a couple or individually and we will team you up. Our Thanksgiving "Triplets" event was well attended and thanks to all those who participated. The winners were: Tony Mendola, Guisela Carrascosa and Michiele Sherman and the Runners Up were: Todd Duffy, Brian Hentz and Carlos Ramirez. We will definitely do another Triplets event sometime in the Spring. Tennis Tip of the month: In order to hit a Passing Shot, give yourself good net clearance and commit yourself to either up the line or cross court----don't change your mind halfway through the shot. Tennis Quiz(Without using the internet) : Who is the MALE player that currently holds the record for having won the most Grand Slam titles? First person to e-mail the correct answer to me at [email protected] will receive a FREE Synthetic Gut Restring. Hope this finds you all well and I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Best wishes

"Frost Delays”

Frost is essentially frozen dew. It can form when temperature (or

wind chill) is near or below the freezing point. The ice crystals

that form on the outside of the plants can also harden or even

freeze the cell structure of the plant. When frosted, the normally

resilient plant cells become brittle and are easily crushed. When

the cell membranes are damaged, the plant loses its ability to

function normally. It's not much different than cracking an egg.

Once the shell is broken, you can't put it back together

A short delay while the frost melts can preserve the quality of the

greens, prevent needless repair and may even save you a few

strokes the next time you play.

Welcome back to many of our Northern linksters. Thanks for bringing some cooler temps with you. It’s December which

means we must reflect on a few things. First, what happened to November? Second, didn’t I just get used to writing down 2011?

Third, don’t we still have a few presents to open from last Christmas? And finally, thank heavens I live in the South where I can keep

my Christmas lights up all year long. Just plug em in and whalla!, it’s the Christmas season!

November hosted some or our usual events. The LGA Turkey Shoot-Out was a great success again with Mary McCann taking

home top honors with a 79. Other CCO members in the spotlight included: Donna Krieger, 3rd

Net in the Pinta Flight. The Men’s

Opening season Member/Member took place on November 12 and 13 with the team of Bill Wright and David Desantis taking home the

overall championship. Jeff Graunke and partner Craig Weide claimed top net honors. The summer skins finale crowned the usual

season long champion Berger Warner, although he had some stiff competition from 2nd

place finisher Duke West. Also the re-scheduled

Member Appreciation event took place on Sunday, November 6th

. The blind draw point quota format saw the team of Kathy Haase and

Diane Thomason come in first, winning a tie breaker against Larry Sauey and Judy Smith. The golf was fun, the food was great and a

wonderful time was had by all.

As we move into December the month begins with the 10th

Annual Sr / Jr Invitational on December 3rd

and 4th

. The following

week, December 10th

, a new event is scheduled. It is a Men’s 1 Day Member / Guest. There is still room in this event but hurry and

find you partner as space is limited. The event will feature 18 holes of best ball golf followed by a lunch and an emergency 9 with an

alternate shot format. Shortly after this event concludes the LGA Member / Member and Christmas luncheon will take place, on

December 13th

and 14th

. We will then take a short break until New Years Day with our Annual Bloody Mary Open, also know as the

Superintendent’s Revenge Challenge. Other events on the calendar for the Month of December include Cebert Wealth golf outings on

the 5th

and 12th

. Dates for Chuck’s couples, Not Ready For Prime Time and for Instructional Clinics will be posted at the Golf Shop.

Our Holiday Golf Shop sale will take place on Friday, November 9th

from 3 to 7 PM. Come see what entertaining sale

promotions we have in store this year. We have new arrivals for the ladies from Tail and Callaway and from Page & Tuttle and Cutter

& Buck for the men. You may want to get in a bit early as supplies may not last till the 9th

.

Your lesson tip for this edition comes from first hand experience. I have been unable to get comfortable with a long putter or a

belly putter. I just could not get the stroke to work. However, as can happen with new experiments, I grabbed a mid size putter and

started using an “in between” set up. Thus the Sternum Putting Style was born! Interested? Give me a call in the shop and we’ll have

at it

…….keep it in the short grass
