Happy October everyone!! I hope all of you that have returned from up North and

those of you that have been in Florida have had an excellent summer.

The PLGA have their Fall Kickoff Scramble and Luncheon on Oct. 13, as well as the

popular Spooky Golf Night Scramble. Spooky Golf will be on Saturday, Oct. 31. Sign-up for

Spooky Golf this year will be a lottery. You will be able to start signing up on Oct. 12 in the

Golf Shop. See the insert for more details.

The popular 9 and Dine will continue on Thursday afternoon October 1. Sign-up is

available a week in advance and the starting time for the event is at 3:30PM. See the Golf Shop

for details.

As you know the Golf Course was in great shape this summer which has turned out

beautiful thanks to Ray and his staff. They are owed a big Thank You for the job that has been

done. With that said, it’s up to everyone to keep it looking that way. That means that those

golfers using golf carts are going to have to abide by the rules. We need to fix divots and ball

marks on the greens and rake the traps, all common etiquette practices. We should all take pride

in the facility! Thanks for your understanding.

Please stop by the Golf Shop as we are having a summer blow out sale on most of

our merchandise before our new line comes in this fall. Most of our golf shoes are

25% off with some shoes at 10% over the cost of the shoe. Shirts and shorts are

up to 25% off. If you have time during your day, stop by and say hello and check

out our sale.

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the

United States and Peridia. We now have four

courts and one is always designated for

beginners. All our players love to teach the

game and most of all it’s just fun. Balls,

paddles and nets are available on the courts for

your use. Just jump right in at one of the

As many of you know, the Fall Season is upon

us. In preparation there will be work done to

the golf course; practices such as verticutting,

topdressing, fertilizing and applying

pesticides will increase. On Wednesday,

October 7 the Golf Course will be closed at

12:00PM for an herbicide application. These

work tasks should not hinder play at all but, I

do apologize for any inconveniences.

Enjoy the golf course and I hope

General Manager’s Column October 2015

Hopefully by the time you read this article the Rainy Days of Summer will have stopped and we are

back to enjoying our golf course without seeing signs reading “Cart Paths Only”. There have been a lot

of tee time cancellations this past month due to Cart Paths Only…even though we have a short golf

course Cart Paths Only signs tend to keep golfers from playing golf. Rounds are down by 20%

compared to the September 2013 golf numbers.

On the brighter side of Peridia is the list of projects that the staff completed this past summer:

Club House

1. Painting has been completed inside the clubhouse, no change in color.

2. Alarm system has been fixed so that the sensors are all working.

3. Kitchen hot line has been lowered by 3 inches.

4. Walk-in coolers have now been calibrated to keep the food fresher.

Grounds 1. Duncan Seawall has completed their repair on the bridge.

2. Entrance sign and the walls on Peridia Blvd. have been painted.

3. Peridia sign at the front entrance to the clubhouse and the walls at both entrances have

been painted.

4. Pressure washing of the sidewalks and cart staging area has been completed.

5. The pool chemical dispenser, which is automatic, has been calibrated to meet State

regulations.

6. The oak trees in the parking lot have been trimmed.

7. Torn wind screen has been replaced on the tennis courts.

8. Broken score keepers for each tennis court have been replaced.

Members have asked me how we deliver the Scorecard each month. I tell them that each HOA has

volunteers that come in and pick up and then deliver one scorecard to each household in their

Association. The volunteers that provide this service do an excellent job and should be greatly

appreciated. Those of you who are seasonal please take the time to let your volunteer know when you

are back or when you head up north so that your volunteer will know to start or stop delivering. If you

would like to reach out to your volunteer to thank him/her for their time and effort, contact Nancy in the

business office and she will provide you with the name of your volunteer.

Believe it or not the Holiday season is just around the corner. Whether you are planning an event or

you know someone who is looking for a venue for an event, we can certainly meet all of your needs.

We have rooms to accommodate up to 150 people and Chef David will personalize a menu just for

you! Contact Food and Beverage Manager, Judy Seals, to save a date and set an appointment. Please

pass the word as we still have some dates available for your Christmas party in December.

Just a reminder that October is the beginning of our member migration south and reservations are

highly recommended. We also have several exciting speakers lined up that I’m sure you will enjoy.

Remember, I always have time for your questions or comments, so please stop by my office. My door is

always open.

Beware Charity Scams By Ginny Lighthizer for the Crime Prevention Committee

Currently, certain online types of charity scams are on the rise, according to several experts.

Crowdfunding, for one, offers increased opportunities for charitable giving — and for scams, according

to Bennett Weiner, chief operating officer of BBB Wise Giving Alliance, the charity-monitoring

organization affiliated with the Better Business Bureau.

"You can read stories about individuals in need, or organizations that may be soliciting for various

projects," he said. "Don't assume that the organizations or individuals on those sites have necessarily

been vetted to any great degree. The organization may have tax-exempt status, and that may be it." In

other words, you may be able to take a deduction for your donation, but that doesn't mean the entity you

are funding is putting your money to use in any way close to what you intended.

There are other scams lurking online for careless givers, said Bill Kowalski, director of operations at

Rehmann Corporate Investigative Services, part of Rehmann Financial Advisors. "If you are online

looking for the name of your charity and you mistype, there are similar sites with similar names," he said.

Scam artists buy up URLs that are similar to the names of charities, and if you’re not careful, you can

make a donation on the wrong site.

There are enforcement challenges when disasters occur, since fraudulent charities often crop up in the

wake of disasters. After Hurricane Sandy, the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs issued

warnings about charity scams, and later settled a case with the operators of the so-called Hurricane Sandy

Relief Foundation, which agreed to shut down its website and hand over more than $300,000 in

donations to an administrator appointed by the court.

To protect yourself from charity scams, Kowalski advises sticking to charities with a proven track record.

"There is nothing inherently more dangerous about giving online as long as you've done your research,"

he said. "Anything that tugs on your heartstrings that's new and different, you should do your research

before you contribute to things like that."

Organizations like the Wise Giving Alliance and Charity Navigator provide online information about

charities, including whether they meet certain standards and how efficiently they spend their money.

It's also a good idea to avoid snap decisions about donations, even when the solicitor

on the phone is telling a heartbreaking story.

Kowalski and Weiner say researching a charity is your best protection against fraud.

"Most charities are honest and trustworthy," Weiner said. "But if you take no

measures, you're going to be more susceptible to being taken when it happens."
