Alex Yost, soloist

(Refrain) Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place, I can feel His mighty power and His grace.

I can hear the brush of angel’s wings, I see glory on each face; Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.

In the midst of His children the Lord said He would be. It doesn’t take very many it can be just two or three.

And I feel that same sweet spirit that I’ve felt so many times before. Surely I can say I’ve been with the Lord. (Refrain)

There’s a holy hush around us as His glory fills this place.

I’ve touch the hem of His garment, I can almost see His face. And my heart is overflowing with the fullness of His joy.

I know without a doubt I’ve been with the Lord. (Refrain)

Prayers of Confession. Please stand, turning towards the cross of Christ.

We make the sign of the cross as a sign of our baptism.

In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Let us pray. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8 Silence for reflection and self-examination. Dear Lord Jesus, I feel my sins. They bite and gnaw and terrify me. Where shall I go? I will look to you, Lord Jesus, and believe in you. Although my faith is weak, I look to you and find assurance, for you have promised, “He that believes in me shall have everlasting life.” My conscience is burdened and my sins make me tremble, but you have said: “Be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven and I will raise you up on the last day and you shall have eternal life.” I cannot do any of this for myself. I come to you for help. Amen. From Luther’s Prayers 147 God’s Promise of Forgiveness In the Word who has come to dwell with us, God has given us grace upon grace: forgiveness that is stronger than our sins, love that can heal every broken heart. Hear this word of God’s pardon and peace: you are free from all your sins in the name of the Father, and of the +Son, and of the Holy Spirit. So rise, shine, your light has come. Amen. Entrance Hymn 731 Earth and All Stars! EARTH AND ALL STARS The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Let us pray. Almighty and ever-living God, at the beginning of each new day, you set about the work of freeing the oppressed, healing the sick, and making whole all that you have made. In worship this morning, remind us of your goodness, fill our hearts with thanksgiving, and restore us to wholeness of life, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. Please be seated

Word

We hear God’s word in scripture reading, preaching, and song Reading Romans 12:1-18 The new life in Christ Paul writes: 1I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God — what is good and acceptable and perfect. 3For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, 5so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another. 6We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; 7ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; 8the exhorter, in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness. 9Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; 10love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. 11Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. 13Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers. 14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. 17Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. 18If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God

Please stand for the reading of the Gospel. “Alleluia” is an ancient Jewish acclamation that means “God be praised.” In the Christian tradition, Alleluia means “He is risen!” The Holy Gospel John 17:20-26 Jesus prays for his disciples Jesus says: 20I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, 21that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, 23I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. 25Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you; and these know that you have sent me. 26I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them." The Gospel of the Lord. Thanks be to God! As congregation repeats the response, children are invited to leave for Children’s Worship, returning after the sermon. Apostle’s Creed. The three paragraphs of the Creed express our belief in the three-fold nature of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayers of Intercession Each petition ends: “Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer.”

Collection of our Tithes and Offerings, and Preparation of the Lord’s Table. Offertory Music A Celtic Aria James Horner

Leo Schiavinato, guitar; Rosemary Kinard, flute Leo became a part of Salisbury and St. John’s in January, living with the Woollys as an exchange student. He will return to his home in Sau Paulo, Brazil, on June 13 and prepare for his own high school graduation next December. He no doubt leaves as a “forever” part of our community. He has arranged the musical offering this morning. Moment of silence as the gifts are prepared for presentation at the altar. The congregation then stands to sing the Doxology.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise him all creatures here below. Praise him above ye heavenly host.

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Offertory Prayer

Let us pray. Merciful Father, we offer with joy and thanksgiving what you have first given us — our selves, our time and our possessions, signs of your gracious love. Receive them for the sake of him who offered himself for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Great Thanksgiving

The Lord be with you. And also with you.

Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise. ... And join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, Lord God of pow’r and might, Heav’n and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who come in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest.

Eucharistic Prayer, followed by the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

The gifts of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God!
