COFFEE WITH FR. FRANCIS Do you have questions about the life of our new parish? Would you like to be involved with our ministries and organizations? What are your concerns and hopes for our new parish? As we continue to work on “Make Disciples, Build Communities and Inspire Witness”, I am grateful to share that I had the opportunity to meet with quite a few of our parish leaders in the last several weeks over coffee to hear their concerns and vision for our new parish. It has been very helpful to me as I strive to lead our faith community under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I would like to offer this opportuni-ty to all parishioners and friends of St Mother Teresa Parish. If you would like to share your hopes and suggestions for our parish with me, please email me at [email protected], call our parish offices at 312-842-7979 or 312-842-6777 to schedule a coffee time. I want to listen to you and to hear from you.

Next weekend, we take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America! Many people in Latin America and the Caribbean do not have access to church programs and ministries because of a rising secular culture, difficult rural terrain, and a shortage of ministers. Your generosity makes it possible for our brothers and sisters in Latin America and the Caribbean to share in the life of the Church and grow closer to Christ. Please be generous to the spe-cial collection! To learn more, please visit www.usccb.org/latin-america.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

THANKS Thanks to Lucy Liu, Linda Leung and Jing Zhang for representing our parish at the Archdiocesan Migration Mass on Sunday Jan. 5th at Holy Name Cathedral. Their photo made the Chicago Catholic newspaper. The full story can be found at https://www.chicagocatholic.com/chicagoland/-/article/2019/01/08/diverse-cultures-celebrated-at-migration-week-ma-1 Thanks to all Young Adults who helped with and participated in the YAM led mass on Sat. Jan. 11th at St. Bar-bara. Many commented on how beautiful they sang together for the Mass and how enjoyable the social was after mass. Thanks to all who helped with and attended the first Parish Appreciation Gathering and special thanks to Jen-nifer Sin and Ken Ricci for sharing their joy of doing ministry in our parish.

THE CALL TO BUILD THE NEW REALITY This past Tuesday, I attended a day of workshop titled: “Cultivating Community, Communion, Communio in Our Parishes.” Over twenty pastors who are in the process of Renew My Church (RMC) attended this spiritual day. Fr. John Kartje, rector of Mundelein Seminary, offered a powerful talk on “Life at Boundaries.” He uses the images of the Gardens of Eden and Gethsemane to illustrate his idea that resistance can be attractive as well as transformative. Resistance can be transformative if we are open to turn to God in times of disruptions and crisis. We all experience this in one way or another way during the RMC journey. As we transition from Operations phase into Build the New Reality, it is essential for us to focus our attention on Jesus. Our personal relationship with Jesus is indispensable for our community to become stronger and attractive for others to join in. As the old saying says so well, we can’t give what we don’t have. Peter beautifully captures this truth in the Acts of the Apostles when asked to help a crippled man at the “beautiful gate” by stating, “I have neither sil-ver nor gold, but what I do have I give to you: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, rise and walk.” Do we have Jesus in us? Are we willing to share this Good News with others? Next Tuesday members of our parish staff will attend another day of workshop on “Leading in a Renewed Church.” Please keep them and all people involved in Renew My Church in your prayers. If you are willing to participate intentionally and communally in the work of Evangelization in our parish, please talk to me. Peace Fr. Francis

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Holy Spirit, stir within us the passion to promote vocations to the consecrated life, societies of apostol-ic life, diocesan priesthood, and permanent diaconate. Inspire us daily to respond to Your call with boundless compassion, abundant generosity, and radical availability. Help us to remember our own baptismal call to rouse us to invite the next generation to hear and respond to Your call. Inspire parents, families, and lay ecclesial ministers to begin a conversation with young Catholics to con-sider how they will live lives of holiness and sacred service. Nudge inquirers and motivate discerners to learn more about monastic life, apostolic life, missionaries, cloistered contemplative life, and evangelical Franciscan life. Ignite our Church with the confident humility that there is an urgent need for religious sisters, brothers, deacons, and priests to live in solidarity with those who are poor, neglected, and marginalized. Disrupt our comfortable lives and complacent attitudes with new ideas to respond courageously and crea-tively with a daily 'YES!' Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE NEW EVANGELIZATION

‘“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ But how can they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? And how can people preach unless they are sent?” –Romans 10: 13-15 Heavenly Father, Pour forth your Holy Spirit to inspire me with these words from Holy Scripture. Stir in my soul the desire to renew my faith and deepen my relationship with your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. so that I might truly believe in and live the Good News. Open my heart to hear the Gospel and grant me the confidence to proclaim the Good News to others. Pour out your Spirit, so that I might be strengthened to go forth and witness to the Gospel in my eve-ryday life through my words and actions. In moments of hesitation, remind me: If not me, then who will proclaim the Gospel? If not now, then when will the Gospel be proclaimed? If not the truth of the Gospel, then what shall I proclaim? God, our Father, I pray that through the Holy Spirit I might hear the call of the New Evangelization to deepen my faith, grow in confidence to proclaim the Gospel and boldly witness to the saving grace of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

OFFERING TO ST. MOTHER TERESA OF CALCUTTA PARISH

As we continue to work on the unification of Parish operations, we now have a bank account under the name of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta. The change will help with daily parish operations, simplifying accounting and, ultimately, save us some costs. In order to help us with this process, please start mak-ing your offering checks payable to St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish. If you are using online giving (Give Central), you don’t need to make any changes.

Baptisms: Parents must be registered practicing parishioners and attend a baptismal preparation session before a baptism will be scheduled. Call the rectory office for further information. Communion Calls: Please contact the Rectory when someone who is homebound or in the hospital wishes a visit to receive Holy Communion or the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. The Anointing of the Sick is for anyone seriously sick and not only for those near death. Ministry of Care: Eucharistic Ministers are available to visit, pray with, and bring Holy Communion to those who are sick and unable to attend Mass. Notify the Parish Office when this service is needed. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a program for anyone inquiring and seeking information about entering the Catholic faith. Weddings: Weddings need to be scheduled at least six months in advance. Couples are reminded to secure the Church date before the reception hall.
