Introduction

THE CONSTANT NEED TO BE PREPARED

– Once the business is down it is a good time for us to look around and prepare for times when it will be up again.

– It is a good time to review our processes, our training programs, to reconstruct some of them and maybe prepare the new ones.

– Simply RETHINK all what we have done to date.

Competency Training

Basic handling of the aircraft becomes more and more important.

systems knowledge and working with the new technologies in highly automated aircraft must go alongside manual flying skills.

The way how to maintain these flying skills is through training.

1. basic handling of the aircraft

Competency Training

Can everything be taught?

Gained experience

Isn´t it too early for some youngster to reach the captain status and gain the left seat sometimes in less than four years?

Shouldn´t we RETHINK minimum requirements for captains?

3. Airline environment awareness

Competency Training

Cannot be taught directly

Good examples are the way of doing it

Each captain should be the kind of instructor

4. Attitude

Conclusion

What to do about all this?

Is there anything we can offer to our students?

YES, there must be something.

Conclusion

We need to RETHINK our training programs and offer the pilots the new methods of learning through continuous and competency based learning to be able to operate in the modern environment with modern equipment.

Let us teach the pilots kind of the modern AIRMANSHIP which is lately sometimes missing. And only then we will have the pilots proud of being THE AIRLINE PILOT.
