The Collect of the Day (The people remain standing) Celebrant: God be with you. People: And also with you. Celebrant: Let us pray.

Keep, O Lord, your household the Church in your steadfast faith and love, that through your grace we may proclaim your truth with boldness, and minister your justice with compassion; for the sake of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Lesson (Please be seated) Romans 5:1-8

Reader: A reading from Paul to the Romans

Therefore, since we have been made righteous through his faithfulness, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have access by faith into this grace in which we stand through him, and we boast in the hope of God’s glory. 3 But not only that! We even take pride in our problems, because we know that trouble produces endurance, 4 endurance produces character, and character produces hope. 5 This hope doesn’t put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

While we were still weak, at the right moment, Christ died for ungodly people. It isn’t often that someone will die for a righteous person, though maybe someone might dare to die for a good person. But God shows his love for us, because while we were still sinners Christ died for us.

Reader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people. People: Thanks be to God.

Opening Acclamation Celebrant: Blessed be God: most holy, glorious, and undivided Trinity. People: And blessed be God’s reign, now and for ever. Amen.

The Psalm (Said in unison) Psalm 116:1, 10-17

1 I love the Lord, because he has heard the voice of my supplication, * because he has inclined his ear to me whenever I called upon him.

10 How shall I repay the Lord * for all the good things he has done for me?

11 I will lift up the cup of salvation * and call upon the Name of the Lord.

12 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord * in the presence of all his people.

13 Precious in the sight of the Lord * is the death of his servants.

14 O Lord, I am your servant; * I am your servant and the child of your handmaid; you have freed me from my bonds.

15 I will offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving * and call upon the Name of the Lord.

16 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord * in the presence of all his people,

17 In the courts of the Lord'S house, * in the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Hallelujah!!

The Gospel Matthew 9:35-10:8

(All standing, the Priest reads the Gospel, first saying)

The Holy Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ according to Matthew. People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Jesus traveled among all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, announcing the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness. Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for them because they were troubled and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The size of the harvest is bigger than you can imagine, but there are few workers. Therefore, plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out workers for his harvest.” He called his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to throw them out and to heal every disease and every sickness. Here are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, who is called Peter; and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee; and John his brother; Philip; and Bartholomew; Thomas; and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus; and Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananaean; and Judas, who betrayed Jesus.

Jesus sent these twelve out and commanded them, “Don’t go among the Gentiles or into a Samaritan city. Go instead to the lost sheep, the people of Israel. As you go, make this announcement: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with skin diseases, and throw out demons. You received without having to pay. Therefore, give without demanding payment.

Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

The Sermon The Rev. Deacon Dawn Shepler

Hymn 711 Seek ye first the kingdom of God

The Nicene Creed (The people stand, all saying together) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Prayers of the People (The Leader and People pray responsively)

In peace, we pray to you, Lord God.

(Silence)

Leader: For all people in their daily life and work; People: For our families, friends, and neighbors, and for those who are alone.

For this community, the nation, and the world; For all who work for justice, freedom, and peace.

For the just and proper use of your creation; For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression.

For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble; For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy.

For the peace and unity of the Church of God; For all who proclaim the Gospel, and all who seek the Truth.

For all bishops and other ministers; For all who serve God in his Church.

For the special needs and concerns of this congregation. We pray especially for Penny, Terry and Kate, Temoc, Nelson, Nancy, Brent, Vyonne, Mary Lou, Dan, Marlene, Mark, Stephanie, Jason, Jillian; for Lisa, as she receives hospice care, for all those suffering from coronavirus, for those who work in science and medicine, for those who are unemployed, and for those we name silently or aloud.

(The People may add their own petitions)

Hear us, Lord; For your mercy is great.

We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life, especially what we now name.

(Silence)

(The People may add their own thanksgivings)

We will exalt you, O God our King; And praise your Name for ever and ever.

We pray for all who have died, that they may have a place in your eternal kingdom.

(Silence)

(The People may add their own petitions)

Lord, let your loving-kindness be upon them; Who put their trust in you. (Silence may be kept.)

Leader and People:

Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so uphold us by your Spirit that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Celebrant: Let us pray.

(The People and Celebrant pray together in the language of their hearts)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

El Padre Nuestro

Celebrante: El Señor sea con ustedes. Pueblo: Y con tu espíritu. Celebrante: Oremos.

The Absolution (The Celebrant says)

Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.
