Greeting Nobles, I want to thank all the units and clubs that worked our famous fishfry’s. The nobles and their ladies really did a great job. I know it is a lot of work. Inaddition, takes some dedication to show up and make it happen each and every Friday.(7 weeks to be exact!). Our shrine center has a great fellowship. There are many of ournobles and their families that come out and support our center. Seeing the familiar andsmiling faces warms your heart. That’s what it’s all about.
I would like to take a minute to congratulate Ted Cline for being elected to the positionof trustee. He was sworn in Monday night March 12 by III. Sir Kenny Harper. Ted istaking Dave Spark’s position for the remainder of the year. Thank you to Ted and DaveOrmes for stepping up and accepting the challenge of filling Sparky’s obligations asChief Aide.
The parade season has kicked off with the St. Patrick’s Day parade. We had a goodturnout. The 2nd Annual Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Parade will take place on Saturday,April 7th @ 10:00am. Our next big parade is Pigeon Forge Fun Fest. This is a greatweekend to spend with your family and shrine family.
We realize the success of our temple depends on the efforts of our nobles and ladiesalike. We have had a very busy month of fish fry’s; St. Patrick’s Day Dance and theChildren’s Easter Egg Hunt have become successful staples of our fraternity.
We have plenty of opportunities this year including 1971 VW Bug, concert tickets, redsgame and the Shriners Tribute Edition Henry Golden Boy Rifle. Every 200 tickets sold,a Henry will be drawn. We gave away our first Henry rifle at the March business meeting. The VW winner will be drawn at the Syrian Shrine Center on October 27 during theHalloween party. In addition to opportunities, we also have many fun and sometimes
free activities for our nobility to enjoy. We have had a great start to this New Year and with everyone’s helpand participation, we can continue to strengthen and grow our shrine center.
I would like to welcome our newest members Koffi Assah and Timothy Callahan (Gayle). These brotherswere initiated into our fraternity on February 12. I would also like to thank the first and second line signers. Thanks for the continuing support of our greatest philanthropy.
The Imperial Session is coming up in July. However, you only have until May to get your binders fee in. Wehave a wonderful hotel set up in beautiful Daytona. This will be an exciting week with some activitiesplanned or relaxation if you so desire. If you missed the presentation, please contact the office for moredetails.
The 97th Ohio Shrine Association Session April 27-29 will be in Sandusky Ohio. Our very own Syrianmember Walter (Tony) Bowling is the 5th Vice-President. Come out and support Tony and your Temple.
Congratulations to Melissa Holmes whom was installed as The Queen of Ishtar Temple #54 Daughters of theNile on March 24. We wish her a very successful year.
In closing, I wanted to remind everybody that I love you and you’re pretty.

Cincinnati Shriners Hospitalcelebrates 50 years of pediatric specialty care
Shriners Hospitals for Children — Cincinnati kicked off its 50th anniversary onWednesday, February 14, with an internal celebration that included staff, volunteersand board members. The morning’s celebration, which took place in the hospital atrium, included aspecial presentation by Lauren Lind, a local burn survivor who was burned over 40percent of her body at age 6 when a large container of hot chocolate tipped overinto her car seat while in route to her brother’s football game. Now a student at theUniversity of Cincinnati, Lauren has served four summers as a junior counselor atCamp Ytiliba, the hospital’s week-long camp for patients. “I don’t remember thepain,” said Lind, “I remember this being one of my favorite places. I always feelspecial here.”Cincinnati Shriners Hospital opened in 1968 as Shriners Burns Institute, and wasconnected with General Hospital, what is now University of Cincinnati MedicalCenter. One of only four free-standing pediatric burn hospitals in the country today, the Cincinnati Shriners Hospital has expanded its care over the years to includeplastic and reconstructive surgery, treatment of cleft lip and palate and othercraniofacial disorders, and complex skin and wound conditions. As always, thehospital treats children based strictly on their needs and regardless of a family’sability to pay.The hospital has celebrations planned throughout the year, including a PatientReunion on June 16, and a visit from David Ragan, NASCAR driver whose number38 Ford Fusion is sponsored by Shriners Hospitals for Children, on July 12.

Antique Caravan T-NoblesSometimes I feel like a was born in antiquity, in the days whenMasons first dreamed of becoming Shriners. I like the history, howabout you, are you “hooked” on Shrinedom? So why did you becomea Shriner, or why did you join the unit or club that you did? Was itfor the fun, maybe the fellowship, or was it our philanthropy. As youknow we are an organization that grew out of the Freemasons over acentury ago by men who wanted to take their fraternity to a new anddifferent level. By stressing fun and fellowship more than ritual, their challenge was to create something special, and I think theysucceeded. By joining Syrian Shrine, you have become part ofsomething special, helping thousands of kids every year. And, if youwent a step further, and joined a unit or club, the friendships youhave built will always be with you, as will the knowledge of whatyou’ve accomplished by being a member of Syrian Shrine. As weembark on a new parade season, you’ll see fellowship, friendlycompetition (every motorized unit dreams of being like the AntiqueCaravan), and good times had by Shrines and their families. Paradesaren’t the only thing Syrian Shriners do together, dances, picnics, dinners, kid’s parties, there is something for everyone at SyrianShrine, so get active! There are even groups for the wives anddaughters of Shriners. There is always something at Syrian Shrine tohelp you grow as a person and help the community around you.

Hospital HostsGreetings Nobles and friends. The Hospital Hosts Unit wisheseveryone a happy and joyous Lenten and Easter Season. First, aninvitation for any Noble who can offer his free time (Retiree that is,since we do our volunteer work during the business hours of ourShriners Hospital for Children,) is invited to consider joining a“working Shrine Unit.” Yes, that’s working unit, we are not a socialshrine unit. Our reason for belonging to the Hosts, is an effort tocontribute our time as volunteers to assist where we can, to helppatients/parents and hospital staff. If you are in that category, weinvite you to come and check us out. We meet at the hospital forabout an hour, on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday each month at 9:30 A.M.in the hospital Board Room. Convenient parking is available in theattached hospital parking garage. Congratulations to our hospitalfor achieving their 50th year of operation. There was an initial “kickoff,” ceremony for Board and Staff members last month, and morewill follow later this year. The hospital’s flu restriction policy hasbeen in effect, so tours have been contained to only a portion of thefacility. Thanks to Al Tucker for handling this function of the HostsUnit, as well as the Hosts who make themselves available to conductand escort the tour groups. Hospital Tours are a primary function ofthis Shrine Unit. Get well wishes are extended to Marv Boyer“Colonel,” Howard Foley, Chick Hastie, and Dave Johnson all ofwhich are dealing with medical issues. We hope they will be backamong us soon. Now for a short joke. Seems one morning a womanand her baby were getting on a bus. As she entered the bus the driversaid, “Wow what an ugly baby.” The woman, deeply hurt, justcontinued onto the bus and found a seat next to an elderly man. Heasked, “What’s wrong you look mad?” She replied, “I am.” “Thatbus driver just insulted me.” “You shouldn’t take that from him.”The man replied. “He’s a public worker and should give you respect. If I were you, I would take down his badge number and report him.”“Your right sir, I think I will report him.” She said. Then the elderlyman said, “You go up there and get his badge number and I’ll holdyour monkey for you.” My friends live life…laugh often…lovemuch…and keep on smiling. Dick Manifold

Legion of HonorThe Legion of Honor is getting ready for the several parades on theschedule this year. Unfortunately, we had to skip the St. Patrick’sDay parade since our float driver, Howard Foley was ill. But we’llhopefully make the rest of them. A special thanks to all our membersand their ladies who helped at the Fish Fry – we worked hard butwere glad to do it for the Shrine. We’re planning a bus trip to NewOrleans in October and we’d love to have YOU join us. It will be forsix days and five nights beginning October 14th. We’re especiallylooking forward to visiting the National World War II Museum. Whata wonderful place this is, and they’ve recently made it even better.Just talk to a LOH member and we’ll put you on the list. The price isvery good. In April (the 17th) we will be meeting at the Shrine Centerat 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon – may be easier for some of ourmembers (and prospective members) to come out during day.Remember, “It’s an honor to belong to the Legion of Honor.” JB, PC,Scribe
Mini RacersWe would like to congratulate Illustrious Sir Greg Pelfrey, LadyJacque and the Divan for getting the year off to a great start. We areextremely proud of Illustrious Pelfrey as he reflects the spirit andenthusiasm of being a Mini Racer. The St. Patrick’s Day paradewas braved by those who hadn’t headed to warmer climates and itseems winter adjustments and repairs worked for most of us. Everyonenow has their eyes set on the beginning of May with hope of a massexodus to Pigeon Forge. Anyone interested in joining the Mini Racers, please feel free to contact us. God bless the Divan, all Nobles andthe families of our Shrine. Mike Miles
Oriental BandGreetings Fellow Nobles from the Oriental Band, Dan DepenbrockDirector. We are eagerly looking forward to spring and summer, sowe can get out andshow the crowds what we can do. Currently we have begun our weeklypractices gearing up for the OB Jamboree the first weekend in June.We have an action-packed agenda to welcome our fellow bandsmenfrom around the region since we are the host city. We are activelyrecruiting more members to bolster our ranks. I was informed that atone time we had over 15 horns players. We are now lucky to get 4 outfor a practice. Come on out and shake a tambourine, learn to play ahorn (we have some very patient teachers) and have some fun. Weusually have 21-23 attendees at a Jamboree. We would love to seeover 30, since it’s a local event. If you need any more information orhave any questions, please call 513-348- 6486. Respectfully Paul Brown Scribe
RuffiansGreetings Nobles & Brothers, The Ruffians, Cincinnati #1 is yourgateway to the future of Shrinedom. We are, in case you weren’taware, a newly formed organization focused on young members. Nowwe’re not just focused on our current young members, but abouthelping men find the light of Freemasonry, and further light in theShrine. Our membership is open to all Nobles of the Shrine who are“young at heart” and are seeking a way to stay that way. Our humblebeginnings are already seeing returns on our investments of hard work.We had a young man join a local Blue Lodge, go through the OneDay “Blue Lightening” class. That new Brother has also sought outmore light by also joining the ranks of our Scottish Rite. And inNovember he petitioned and was accepted into our very own SyrianShrine. He will go through the ceremonial very soon scheduled forthe Spring class. Make sure you stop and say hello to our new NobleTim Mircale when you see him. We look forward too many more goingthe way Tim Mircale did. With our membership in the Shrine havingits Nobles average age being 71, and almost 75% of our Nobles beingOVER the age of 50. Eventually of membership will suffer even moredramatically than it is now. In ten to fifteen years if we don’t do
something now to replenish of great elder statesmen. I’m talking aboutthose Nobles who became Masons and Shriners in the 60’s, 70’s and80’s. We will have Lodges, Halls and Temples with Vacancy signshanging in windows. We encourage all Nobles to come out and joinus for our next event, Cigars and Drinks at Jungle Jim’s on April19th. Denny Lovell - Secretary

So, my fellow Clowns, at the beginning of this past month your Director and Past Director Chili Pepper.flew out to Las Vegas for 5 days, we took the time to meticulously put our makeup on, made sure ourcostumes were the way that we felt they were supposed to look, and we got on stage to be judged byour fellow clowns. We got our game on, and as usual, we scored in the top, also bringing home a veryspecial award. But I’m not here to boast about a couple pieces of wood that we brought home. I’m hereto let everyone in the unit know that they missed a fantastic time and a very fun place. This trip was toLas Vegas, Nevada. We stayed in a 4-star hotel casino by the name of, the Golden Nugget. We ate verywell. And we had some very interesting and entertaining things happen to us. The cost for this trip outof my pocket was $650. That would be airflare room souvenirs for the grandkids dues registration feesand a couple trips to the Heart Attack Grill. A year ago, four of us went to Virginia to the ISCA conventionand had a fantastic time. And we became friends with some fantastic people such as Percy the PainterPope, the Cop, and a few other members of the international Shrine Clown Association. In past years Ihave not really promoted going to conventions a whole lot although I have gone to him, I haven’t reallyexpanded upon how much of fun they are. So, I’d like to take this opportunity to tell each clown, ormaybe each unit member in the Shrine, that if you want to make some new friends that enjoy whatyou’re doing go to your conventions! This time I felt that we had the opportunity to compete againstsome of the best clown out there! There were some fantastic makeup jobs done, and some fantasticskits! And more than that we made some lifelong friends that it at the end of the day I can’t wait tohang out with again. There are conventions that happened throughout the year, they have competitionand they also have education but more than anything they have Fellowship. Barrels DaClown
