VOX HUMANA Welcome to everyone who came to the Shrine Church of St. Stanislaus to celebrate the glorious feast of Easter! While you are hear you will worship—that means hear, touch, sing and speak, watch, smell—with all your senses! One of my main contributions to the worship experience is the music you hear coming form the piano and the two organs….most notably, the great pipe organ located in the choir loft. Our wonderful pipe organ is now slightly over 100 years old! That is a great tribute to the people of this parish and, in particular, the Dads’ Club, who have tried their best to maintain a treasure so that it might contribute to the worship experience we all have come to love and associate with this great community. But 100 plus years have now begun to show signs that our loving organ will soon need some very special attention.

Pictured above is a ‘vox’ humana’ pipe which was recently repaired by the organ restoratation and maintenance company of James Leek from Oberlin. Mr. Leek has taken on the challenge of caring for this instrument as though it was his own child from the time of Fr. Gulas. Since the turn of this new century he has re-wired and restored the console (that’s the cabinet which houses all the ivory keys which i tickle to produce sounds ranging from very very quiet to monstrously earthquake shaking). He also has re-leathered our major bellows (the huge mechanisms which keep the pressure constant throughout the various organ chambers). Finally, he regularly comes to tune the organ as best as possible because of numerous age and design related obstacles. Getting back to the pipe featured above, Mr. Leek recently recently found it in dire need of repair as it as totally inoperable. Now it is back in place. Will you ever hear it? Well, one would hope so! Hope so??? Yes….the reason I say that is because the organ is in need of some crucial attention which will require extensive rebuilding of some parts, rewiring of others, updating and simple 100 year maintenance. Anyone who owns a car knows what it is like to make sure you take seriously the 30,000 mile or 100,000 mile servicing intervals in order to insure your vehicles performance!) All it takes now is finding someome who can afford a couple of Cadillacs (Mrs. Romney?) to fund this multi year procedure. Yes, TWO CADILLACS! That’s what it will take. (Translation: about $100,000) . When you think in terms of two caddies, that does not sound impossible, but for us it sort of is a big thing. We will need a couple more Cadillacs to do the front steps and a few more to finish painting the windows. For the church roof we might need a whole fleet of them! In the meantime, I will try my best to make the great lady sound as beautiful as possible, despite numerous missing notes and cross ciphering. In time, we hope to fix her up and keep her going for another hundred years plus. I will keep on approaching foundations...and maybe someone we know will forgo a couple of Cadillacs in their garage and instead underwrite the organ restoration! Quixotic? Nope—just a matter of positive thinking and trust in God’s providence...and the generosity of good people! Enjoy the Hallelujah Chorus! (and forgive any dead or sour notes you will most assuredly hear!) David Krakowski

(8:6 BT). Te słowa zajmowały mnie i zajmują do dzisiaj.

Kard.

Wtedy ucieka do pomysłu sławy, które uczyniłaby go rzeczywiście nieśmiertelnym.

FINAL WEEKEND FOR PASTORAL COUNCIL NOMINATIONS The annual election for new Parish Pastoral Council members will take place the weekend of May 5-6. Please consider if you or someone you know would be able to serve the parish on this council. Evening meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month from September through June. Nomination forms are available at the church entrances and may be submitted through this weekend. Completed forms may be placed in the collection basket or turned in to one of the priests or council members.
