A Word from Mrs. Tesser
Dear Parents,
It seems like just yesterday that we
began this school year and yet we are al-
ready halfway through. The students in all
of or grades have been busy with special projects along with
continuing to work diligently to learn all of the NYS standards
in each of the subject areas.
Our special focus for February is our study of George
Washington and Abraham Lincoln in honor of Presidents’
Day. Our studies will culminate in a special assembly for
grades Kindergarten to Grade 6. Our students will be pre-
senting animated videos on the Presidents which will be writ-
ten and recorded by our students in grades five and six.
Grades three and four will present action presentations of
famous events which took place during this period. Children
will participate in a President’s Bee where they can win re-
wards for their participation.
Sincerely, Gilda Tesser, SHA Principal

A Word from Mrs. Ezagui - Judaic Director
Dear Parents,
It has been my sincere pleasure and honor to be part of the administration at SHA. There are so many exciting events
and programs are currently happening at SHA, and I hope this newsletter will serve as a small peek into the “SHA
happenings.” As part of our current Brachot Unit, the students are researching different types of plant life and par-
ticipating in planting activities. The students are also working on compiling their own Hebrew books about trees &
plants. They are very excited about the new “Brachot Trading Contest,” and are eagerly collecting all fifty four
brachot cards. Brachot awards and prizes will be given out to the students at our next Rosh Chodesh assembly!
New at SHA is also our “Middot Matters” program which creates a learning atmosphere that enables children to grow intellectually,
spiritually and socially. Through formal curricular instruction and special programming, this program develops a clear sense of val-
ues inspired by the Torah. Each month a specific middah is highlighted. Students share experiences and thoughts on how to incor-
porate these virtues into their daily lives. They discuss issues such as honesty, kindness, Tzedakah and responsibility. An emphasis
is placed on having respect for teachers and parents as well as peers and self. These thoughts are implemented throughout the
month and the children are taught how to integrate them into their daily lives.
Respectfully, Mrs. Chumy Ezagui

Hi. My name is Mashi Weinberg. I live in Port
Washington, 16 Harbor Rd. My favorite part of
school is when I write. I liked learning about
maps and drawing the map of my bedroom. My
favorite thing about school is gym!
My name is Dovid Geisinsky and I am in the
2nd grade. I like to learn and my favorite
subject in school is reading. I love to tell
jokes like, “knock, knock, who’s there?”
“Lettuce,” “ Lettuce, who?” “Let us come to
school.” Ha! Ha! I am an uncle, my father is
a Rabbi and my mother is an educator. I
love to play lego, my favorite food is pizza
and I love the color blue.
Hi, my name is Dana Rachel Livian and I am in 3rd
grade. My favorite part about school is science. I
like it because it is very interesting. We learn a lot
about plants and how things work. One time we
even did an experiment on how different foods
rot! Science is so much fun!
My name is Nicole Devorah Yaghoubian and
I am in 4th grade. There are 6 people in my
family. I have 2 sisters and 1 brother. My
favorite thing to do is to write. My favorite
subject in school is math. My favorite sub-
ject is math because it helps me solve prob-
lems. Multiplication is a shorter way of add-
ing. Division is the opposite of the multiplica-
tion. Subtraction is like taking off numbers. Through education, I
hope to be a more successful person and adult.

Inside the classroom ...
This month we get to peek inside the 4th grade!
In Ms. Eberle’s general studies class the students are learning about
weather patterns and how they affect our lives. The students en-
joyed reading the story, “Eye of the Storm.” The students really
like the hands on learning they are doing in science. They have
looked at salt, coffee, and various bugs under the microscope. They
then reported their observations. In math class, the students are
busy learning two digit multiplication. They have been given
strategies to help them solve these problems, such as using arrays.
In Morah Ezagui’s Kittah Dalad the students just finished another
Perek in Chumash with Rashi. Solid core knowledge of Chumash,
both in content and skills, is emphasized as a central component of
our 4th grade Chumash curriculum. The students are excited about
starting the Pirkay Avot Mishnayot program and are looking for-
ward to starting our Mishnayot Scrapbooks. In Navi class, 4th
grade is learning about how Yehoshua & the Jews crossed the
Yarden River to go into Eretz Yisrael. In connection to our Navi
class, the students are working in groups to research about different
areas in Eretz Yisrael. The students will then create a “mini Israel”
that the rest of the school will come to tour!

Parents Share!
Our everyday lives have become so hec-tic. Each of us has a very long “to do” list and when we get the opportunity to check something off that list we feel a sense of accomplishment.
My greatest responsibility is caring for my b”h 5 children, three of my most pre-
cious gifts I entrust into the loving hands of the Silverstein Hebrew Academy (the youngest is still homeschooled). At Silverstein I know that my elementary gal’ Tehilah,, my pre-k Tamar and my tot Avishai are being educated by caring professionals who like me believe they can make a differ-ence in the lives of children. They fully understand that be-ing a role model for developing Jewish boys and girls is a serious responsibility. I feel that all of my children’s teach-ers are committed to giving them everything they need to know now as well as in the future when they become ac-tive members in the Jewish community. When I think of Silverstein Hebrew Academy I feel love, I feel yiddishkiet, and I feel a commitment to Jewish values. Last but not least I feel I can put the first check on my daily list, every single day!
I hope you all feel the same.

I am Mina Namdar and my daughter
Naomi is in fifth grade. She loves the
idea of doing work on the ipads that
she received this year & looks forward
to using them frequently. She also
loves her new lockers that they re-

classes and participating in the les-
sons. I personally love the location of SHA and the
friendly atmosphere of the school and the faculty.
