I Samuel 26:18-19 18 And he said, “Why does my lord thus pursue his ser-vant? For what have I done, or what evil is in my hand? 19 Now therefore, please, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant: If the Lord has stirred you up against me, let Him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, may they be cursed before the Lord, for they have driven me out this day from sharing in the inheritance of the Lord, say-ing, ‘Go, serve other gods.’

I Samuel 27:1-7 1 And David said in his heart, “Now I shall perish someday by the hand of Saul. There is nothing bet-ter for me than that I should speedily escape to the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me anymore in any part of Israel. So I shall escape out of his hand.” 2 Then David arose and went over with

the six hundred men who were with him to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath. 3 So David dwelt with Ach-ish at Gath, he and his men, each man with his house-hold, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezree-litess, and Abigail the Car-melitess, Nabal’s widow. 4 And it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath; so he sought him no more. 5 Then David said to Achish, “If I have now found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?” 6 So Achish gave him Ziklag that day. Therefore Ziklag has be-longed to the kings of Judah to this day. 7 Now the time that David dwelt in the coun-try of the Philistines was one full year and four months.

I. Never misinterpret adversity as the evidence of God’s opposition to you

Psalms 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.

I Corinthians 16:9 For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.

I Peter 4:12-13 12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but re-joice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s suffer-ings, that when His glory is revealed, you ma``y also be glad with exceeding joy.

the great victories God has given you in the past. Resurrect you testimony and use it to restore your HOPE.

Revelation 19:10 “See that you Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of proph-ecy.”

I Samuel 17:34-37 34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, 35 I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. 6 Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.” 37 Moreover David said, “The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and for-ever.

Romans 5:5 Now hope does not disap-point, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Psalms 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet

praise Him For the help of His countenance.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evi-dence of things not seen.

III. Fight the good fight of faith!

I Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many wit-nesses.

I Samuel 30:6 Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, be-cause the soul of all the peo-ple was grieved, every man for his sons and his daugh-ters. But David strength-ened himself in the Lord his God.

tils. So the people fled from the Philistines. 12 But he sta-tioned himself in the middle of the field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. So the Lord brought about a great victory.

Never let the devil CHASE you OUT of anything God’s CALLED you to be IN!

Discouragement is the greatest when BREAKTHROUGH is the closest.

Never make an important decision when you are discouraged.

When we leave our place, we lose a measure of GRACE.

Never misinterpret adversity as a sign of God’s opposition.

You will win if you don’t quit!

Sometimes it’s not how much weight a burden has, but how long you have to carry it that is the most discouraging.

People facing long-term battles have to become experts as overcoming discouragement.

God will never allow people to have authority over your destiny.
