Purpose• Protection: protects the brain and internal organs • Support: maintains upright posture • Produces blood cells• Storage: stores fat and minerals• Allows movement

• A baby has about 300 bones when it is first born.• Your skeleton is divided into 2 parts, your axial skeleton

and your appendicular skeleton.

• Your spine is made up of 26 bones, these bones are called vertebrae

• Your foot has a total of 26 bones.• With out your bones, you wouldn’t be able to walk or

stand you, would be a blob on the floor.

Diseases • arthritis- joint pain, irritation of the joints

– Cause- you can get arthritis based on your age, weight, or any previous injury’s you might have had

– Treatment- depending on the type, physical and occupational therapy may be needed, also if severe enough joint replacement will be necessary.

• Osteoporosis- bones become more brittle due to BMD reduction – treatment- bisphosphonates – drugs that removes bone tissue– cause- not enough calcium and phosphorus

• Frozen shoulder- restricted motion in your shoulder– cause- often occurs for no reason, occasionally traumatic injury

to the shoulder– treatment- physical therapy, and pain relief.

Staying healthy

• A healthy diet

• Regular exercise

• Some examples of a healthy diet are: milk, cheese, yogurt, other dairy products, and vegetables.

• Some examples of good exercise are: walk, jog, and jump rope are all examples of good exercise
