! Slavery is a system under which people are treated as property and forced to work.

! Slavery in the United States had existed since the colonial days.

! Slaves were mainly from African descent.

! Slavery was present in the U.S.A. during the 18th and 19th centuries.

! The U.S.A. was a slave country because the original British colonies accepted slavery too.

! Shortly after the Revolutionary War and the Declaration of Independence (1776)

! Slavery continues to thrive and spread.

! The U.S.A was a big country that survived on agriculture.

! The African origin of slaves creates segregation.

! This inspires racism thoughts that continue throughout the 20th century.

! Industralisation far from complete. ! The cotton, tobacco and sugar cane

plantations needed work force. ! No machines yet invented. ! Slaves had to do the work.

! The Slaves were transported from regions of Africa.

! They hadn’t any civil rights. ! They lived on large farms or small

plantations. ! They were prohibited from learning to

read and write. ! Their behaviour and movement was

restricted.

- TODAY'S SLAVERY WAYS - CONSCIOUSNESS RAISING

HUMAN TRADE Human trade is about moving people from

one place to another in order to exploit them.

WORKING EXPLOITATION (children) It's about receiving a payment wich is less

valorated than the work done .

If we put together these two facts we can find that some people take advantage of other people for disgusting and unhuman purposes like:

!  Clothes and shoes workshops !  Big factories !  Some agriculture models

Having conscious raising is to understand other people's situation and to be able to be sensitive with them.

If we do that we can understand what they are going through and be able to act consequently.

In 2004 there were in the world 218 million children engaged in child labor, excluding domestic work.

Some of the jobs they do today are still making clothes or shoes for well known clothing brands and companies.
