We are very excited about the learning centers that are set up around the classroom. We get to work in the centers 3 or 4 days a week. The class’s favorite center is the Name Game Center, where we are learning how to spell and write each other’s names. During our Read Aloud Time we are enjoying such books as “Skippy Jon Jones” and “How I Became a Pirate.” We also read the book, “A House for Hermit Crab” and then we enjoyed observing some real hermit crabs that had decorated “houses” like in the book. Happy Birthday to Gracie Roberts, who had a birthday on August 25, and Malcolm Finley, whose birthday was October 2.

I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to Patsy Jones for subbing for me while I was out on maternity leave. She did an excellent job. It’s great to be back and I’m looking forward to the weeks ahead.Mrs. Foreman

Mrs. Foreman’s first grade class is busy, busy, busy. In reading, we have just completed our first reading book and we will begin our next book soon. One her-mit crab’s shell was decorated like a basketball.

In Math, we are concentrating on basic addition and subtraction facts. In Spelling, we are practicing our words each week using letter cards and our write’n wipe boards.

Birthday wishes go to Jaspor Murphy (August), Colby Hostler, Chase Kirks, Jordan Price (September), Matthew McAfee and Logan McCain ( October).Mrs. Rider

The 2006-2007 school year has been very busy for the 2nd graders in Mrs. Rider’s class. We have just been reading and reading and reading everything we can. Some of our books have been about reptiles, frogs, toads, animals, trees and leaves.

We have already made our leaf collec-tions. Each student had to make a collection with 10 leaves and write the common name for each of those leaves. We really learned a lot about trees and leaves through our leaf col-lections. We displayed them in the elementary hallway to share with the other classes at school.

Our class has also been studying about the correct way to write a friendly letter and a thank you note. We had a Frog & Toad story in which Frog leaves Toad a note on the door. We decided we could write letters and mail them. This is just what we did. We wrote a draft of our letters using the correct form; and then we made our revisions and wrote a final copy ready to mail. We walked ‘all the way’ to the Imboden Post Office from school one morning. While we were there we were able to tour the post office, talk with the Post Mistress, see where all the mail is, pick out a stamp, and mail our letters. Then, we walked ‘all the way’ back to school in time for lunch.

The Math lessons have been very inter-esting as well. We have been learning about telling time, counting money, and collecting data to make charts, graphs and tables. All of us love doing the Math Problem of the Day.

We are very fortunate this year to have 3 wonderful teachers helping us out with our reading and Math. Mrs. Grisham helps us with our Reading; and Mrs. Dorinda and Mrs. Smith help us with our Math. We also have a Grand-parent who comes to our class once a week to read with some of us. As you can tell we are just busy, busy, busy and look forward to the rest of the school year.
