Sugar and the Mint, a vibrant, very talented, young band ranging in ages from 18-22, hails from Prescott, AZ and is bringing new energy to traditional Americana music. The band recreates old-time sounds, yet pushes arrangements and originals into amazing contemporary, innovative shapes and forms and offer an exciting, spirited take on folk and bluegrass. They have shared the bill with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Emmylou Harris, Punch Brothers, Jerry Douglas, the Sam Bush Band and more. In 2017, the band took first place in the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Contest. Since their win in 2017, the band has been touring from coast to coast, with a history of sold-out shows in the western states. Saturday evening co-HeadlinerS Nationally acclaimed

The small gloriesThe Small Glories, a roots powerhouse duo, hails all the way from Winnipeg, CANADA and consist of Cara Luft & JD Edwards. Straight out of the gate these two veteran singer/songwriters built an international buzz around their tight harmonies, emotional authenticity, explosive live performances and equally well-matched guitar prowess. Luft packs a mean banjo as well. Many know Cara as a founding member of country/folk sweethearts The Wailin’ Jennys. Their 2016 debut album “Wondrous Traveler” was nominated for two Canadian Folk Music Awards and found its way onto many critic’s Top 10 lists across North America and Europe. “The Small Glories are the ultimate: two amazing solo performers who somehow manage to melt into one entity, creating incredible harmonies that still raise the hairs on the back of my neck as I write.” – Jennifer Ives, AD, Live from the Rock Music Festival. The duo tours almost continuously, finding themselves on stages from London to Philadelphia, Vancouver to Australia and beyond. Listen to The Small Glories here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DghNgN6lJSg

Dear Festival Goers: The mission of the Columbus Folk Music Society is to promote the appreciation, understanding and enjoyment of folk music, song, dance, storytelling and other folk arts. The annual Central Ohio Folk Festival is one way we accomplish this mission. Having outgrown its old location, the festival moved to Highbanks Metro Park in 2018 where it continues to expand. All activities are free, with the exception of workshops, Saturday evening concert and Cigar Box Guitar making activity.

We invite you to come and participate in the many family-friendly events! Whether an individual, family, musician, or a just a lover of the folk arts, we know you’ll enjoy the many activities found at the festival.

A big shout out “THANK YOU” – This festival would not be possible without the help of so many – Metro Park volunteers and employees, our business supporters, the many musicians and sound personnel who give of themselves so tirelessly, and the Columbus Folk Music Society members and friends who donate heaps of their time and talent to make this weekend a

reality AND a fun, enjoyable time for everyone!

Kirby Main Stage Performers (in order of appearance)Times/Events subject to change. Visit our web page for up-to-date schedule information.

Ted Yoder (Goshen, IN) Ted Yoder is the perfect musician for the 21st century; his passionate playing style on the hammered dulcimer and easy-going personality make him a natural live and online star. Until you hear Ted Yoder, it’s impossible to imagine that one wooden stringed instrument can sound like an entire band or whole orchestra all in one. National Hammered Dulcimer Championship Winner and virtuoso who has been dubbed “the Bela Fleck of the Hammered Dulcimer.” www.tedyoder.com 3 pm Saturday

Storytellers of Central Ohio (Columbus, OH)The Storytellers of Central Ohio (SOCO) are a dynamic group of men and women of all ages who believe in the power, the magic, and the wonder of storytelling in the oral tradition. Founded in 1990 to promote the art of storytelling, and to foster the growth and development of storytellers, SOCO now plays an integral part in the

world-wide renaissance of storytelling. Listen to some of them on the main stage! www.socotales.org Noon Saturday

Cari Ray & The Shaky Legs (Livingston, TX) With powerful vocals, captivating harmony and unique instrumentation, this talented duo delivers clever, insightful songwriting with a style rooted in the tradition of early American music – acoustic blues, folk, ragtime, gospel and more. The live show serves it all up handily with Cari’s quick wit, tasty

fingerstyle guitar, and a huge, evocative voice finding a perfect balance between energy and intimacy – a unique blend of heart and grit. www.cariray.com. 2 pm Saturday

Last Acre (Athens, IL) Last Acre is Mark & Molly Mathewson, a father/daughter Americana duo, with blood-kin harmonies and dry, tongue-in-cheek repartee. The duo has performed across the Midwest, headlining their own shows and opening for acts such as Robbie Fulks, Tim Grimm, & Antje Duvekot. Mark is a winner of the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest (Merlefest) and has songs recorded by bluegrass artists, including 2017 Grammy nominee Blue Highway, The Lonesome River Band, as well as others. www.lastacremusic.com 1 pm Saturday

Heather Styka (Chicago, IL) Live, Heather Styka comes off as something like Leonard Cohen crossed with Patsy Cline. Armed with a guileless, unvarnished delivery, she’s equal parts wordsmith and entertainer. Styka’s energetic shows feel as intimate & candid as late night conversation, peppered with a quirky sense of humor. Heather Styka preaches what we all need to hear… Styka puts her vocal prowess on

full display alongside her talent for telling stories and connecting emotionally.” - Glide Magazine www.heatherstyka.com Noon Sunday

Dave Hawkins (Newark, OH) After 20 years living in Cincinnati, Dave is thrilled to be living back in Central Ohio. The Bob Kirby Scholarship AwardIn 2009 the Columbus Folk Music Society established the Bob Kirby Scholarship Memorial Fund in memory of Bob Kirby, who was a firm supporter of preserving our musical heritage – with particular emphasis on young musicians. The purpose of the fund is to assist young musicians from the Central Ohio area by offering opportunities they may not otherwise experience, namely:

opportunities to enhance their musical skills in the folk music tradition by • an award towards the purchase of an instrument or lessons; opportunities to pursue a greater knowledge of, and appreciation for, folk • music; AND performance opportunities. •
