THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST (CORPUS CHRISTI)

Dear Friends,

Today is Corpus Christi Sunday and with this great feast, we know that summer is finally in full swing: warm temperatures and long sunny days and our gardens are in full growth mode!

Today, we focus on a different kind of Food, the Holy Communion of God, transubstantiated into the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ. Bread and Wine are given by the People, to the Priest who will repeat the words of consecration and then complete the Sacrifice of the Mass; sharing this great Gift of Jesus with us as he distributes Holy Communion. Sharing this sacrificial Meal today, in remembrance of the Last Supper, we find our true sustenance.

Today our parish participates in the ancient rite of the Corpus Christi Procession. Like any procession, the primary liturgical image is the entrance of God’s people into paradise. Our parish processes around the outside of Church, the living sacrament of our faith, welcoming all those who gaze upon the Sacred Host to come and adore Him. The traditional canopy carried over the Monstrance conveys the image of the Tent that housed God’s presence during the People’s journey to the Promised Land. During the procession we sing and pray the litanies as a sign of our total surrender to the Will of God.

Please join us and give praise and adoration to the Eucharist, the source and summit of our lives!

This is a passage from a very good book called, Meditations before Mass, by Romano Guardini, that I‘d like to share with you again in the hopes that this meditation will help you: “We do not come to church to “attend the service,” which usually means as a spectator, but in order, along with the priest, to serve God. Everything we do: our entering, being present, our kneeling and sitting and standing, our reception of the Sacred Nourishment, should be of divine service. This is when all we do “overflows” from the awareness of a collected heart and the mind’s attentiveness.

“Such composure is all the more necessary since

liturgical action is devoid of what otherwise enforces

attention: namely utility. When I seat myself at my

desk and pick up a manuscript, my attention naturally

passes to it; when I do a job in my worship, I

unconsciously pull myself together, otherwise it will

miscarry. Everywhere some utilitarian “purpose” to be

accomplished binds my attention. In the Mass there are

no such purposes. The believer simply steps into the

presence of God and remains there for Him. The

liturgy is a thing of exalted “purposelessness,” but it is

filled with the sense of sacred serving, and over it

reigns the sublimity of God. Here, composure means

Holy Communion will only be served in Bread form over the summer. If you have a gluten allergy, please go to the sacristy prior to Mass so that a chalice of Precious

Blood can be prepared.

IN OUR PARISH

CURIOUS ABOUT BECOMING CATHOLIC?

If you are curious about the Catholic faith, please give us a call! We are a warm and welcoming community always excited to grow and share our faith with new members. Call the parish office at 610-265-4178 to speak with a member of the clergy about joining RCIA.

MDP Shore Up the Future – Year 2 Thus far, we have received pledges and/or donations totaling $113,834.50 from 220 families. We are truly grateful for their generosity. We urge the other 1,714 registered families who have not yet responded, to please support this financial appeal which will fund the replacement of the HVAC system in the church. We estimate that it will cost $175,000 - $200,000 to complete this project. Your donations can be made via the collection basket, mail, or by using Parish Giving, our on-line giving solution. The link can be found on our website, www.mdpparish.com. Any questions, please contact the parish office at 610-265-4178.

A BRUSH STROKE FROM THE DEACON

The fact that Jesus came to be Baptized, can be understood as His desire to be in solidarity with sinners (Mt 3:7) and is a response to the will of the Father as the one who brings salvation to the world. Jesus brings the plan of God into fulfillment. The human person is made out of flesh and soul, and this makes the purification double. In this sense, Jesus enters into our nature so that through His baptism we may imitate Him in baptism. Just as the water cleans the body, so the Spirit purifies the soul. As a result of this purification we may be closer to God the Father; because “unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (Df. Jn 3:5) (Catechetical lectures by St. Cyril of Jerusalem) Through the baptism of Jesus we became one with Christ: “For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body”. (Gal 6:15) It was in Him, that the Father chose us and predestined us to become adopted sons, for in Him it pleased the Father to re-establish all things. Righteousness is the fulfilling of the commandments. And for this Jesus said to John that He has to fulfill all righteousness, in this way He fulfills the whole law. As Jesus invites His disciples to be like Him, likewise He encourages us all to be like Him: perfect. All are called to respond to this call to perfection because Jesus addressed it to all. It is only the Holy Spirit who can help us to accept this invitation and lead us to that perfection. Courage!!! Your deacon, Cesar Izaguirre

everything. Hence it must be willed and practiced. Other-wise our service grows dull, indolent, and careless –an insult to His divine Majesty.”

With prayers before the Blessed Sacrament for your family and friends,

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED For the past 18 years, MDP has hosted a Christmas Craft Fair and Bazaar that has attracted over 100 vendors and hundreds of shoppers.

We are in need of a few people to help chair the event. One or two people are needed to oversee the entire event – coordinate about five parish “booths” – kitchen, baked goods, attic treasures, etc. (each of which has their own chairperson), publicity, and volunteers. The other job is handling the crafters – registration, placement, etc. The crafters’ task is mostly handled via email. We have a binder with step by step instructions for coordinating this successful parish event. This year the Christmas Craft Fair and Bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019. Setup takes place Thursday evening and Friday afternoon. If you are looking for a way to get more involved here at MDP, please consider helping with this enjoyable event. Please call Marianne Houston 610-265-4178 or email her at [email protected] for further information.

First Reading: Genesis 14:18-20

Psalm: 110:1, 2, 3, 4

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

Gospel: Luke 9:11b-17

Formerly known as the Fortnight for Freedom, Religious Freedom week begins on June 22nd through June 29th. This week of prayer begins on the feast day of Saints Thomas More and St. John Fisher, it includes the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, and ends with the feast of Saints Peter and Paul. Please remember to include in your prayers a special intention to preserve our Religious Freedoms that were guaranteed to us by our forefathers.

O God our Creator, from Your provident hand we have

received our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of

happiness. You have called us as Your people and given

us the right and the duty to worship You, the only true

God, and Your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power

and working of Your Holy Spirit, You call us to live out

our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light

and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of

society.

We ask You to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of

religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind and

heart to readily defend our freedoms when they are

threatened; give us courage in making our voices

heard on behalf of the rights of Your Church and the

freedom of conscience of all people of faith.

Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united

voice to all Your sons and daughters gathered in Your

Church in this decisive hour in the history of our

nation, so that, with every trial withstood and every

danger overcome— for the sake of our children, our

grandchildren, and all who come after us— this great

land will always be “one nation, under God, indivisible,

with liberty and justice for all.”

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER FOR OUR MILITARY

DON’T TAKE A VACATION FROM SCRIP THIS SUMMER!

Just because your school lets out for the summer doesn’t mean you have to discontinue your scrip purchases. Families still have all the same expenses—gas, groceries, eating out, etc.—during the summer that they do the rest of the year. Scrip families don’t stop their spending just because school shuts down for the summer. In addition to the normal household purchases they can be making with scrip, family travel purchases are perfect for summer scrip programs. Summer barbeques and picnics, pool supplies, beach toys, and lawn and house maintenance tools are all typical summer purchases that could be made with scrip. The biggest opportunity to earn rebate money for our parish and your catholic tuition outside of Christmas is back-to-school shopping. Most families make those purchases throughout the summer. All school supplies can be purchased from our office supply retailers. When it is all totaled, your savings can be significant!
