so that this skripsi entitled “The Speaking Ability of The Tenth Grade Students of
SMK Negeri 1 Kudus By Using Good Morning Ball Game Technique 2014/2015”
is accomplished.
This skripsi is not merely the writer’s own work because of having been

As the way our education system faced English language lesson, the
students do not get enough exposure to the target language in real life contexts that
is why the students get so many difficulties to just speak their idea in English. Based
on the writer’s experience interview with students and teacher of SMK N 1 Kudus,
most of students feel that speaking is really difficult and make them scary. It can
proved by the score of English lesson especially in speaking topic, the mean of the
eleventh grade students score is less from 75,00 as minimum standard of
achievement. Those facts make the writer interest to make a research to improve
students’ speaking of tenth grade students of SMK N 1 Kudus by using good
morning ball game technique.
This research aims to know the effectiveness of Good Morning Ball Game
as a teaching technique to improve the speaking ability of the tenth grade students
of SMK N 1 Kudus. It stimulous the students to speak up confidently.
This is an experimental research without control group, but the writer use
one group pre-test and post-test. Since the population has homogeneous
charateristic and the number more than 100, the writer conducted sample research
by using clustering random sampling. Then, the writer got X AK 2 as the sample of
the research. The instrument used by the writer was speaking performance test and
to measure it the writer used the speaking scoring rubric.
The writer carried out data analysis and tested the hypothesis. The mean for
the pre-test is 65.77, SD is 7.68. While for the post-test she got the data mean =
81.59 with SD = 5.36. For hypothesis testing she got t = -9.15 while left tailed t-
table 5 % is -1.697. The writer concluded that Good Morning Ball Game as a
technique had proven effective in improving the speaking ability of the tenth grade
students of SMK Negeri 1 Kudus in academic year 2014/2015.
From the facts above, so that the writer suggests the English teachers may
take the benefit from the good morning ball game as a technique to help students
improving their speaking ability. It makes the English teaching and learning change
to be fun. English teacher should try good morning ball game as a technique of
teaching and learning to solve the speaking ability especially at vocational high
school.

Dalam sistem pendidikan kita, siswa tidak mendapatkan cukup ruang
berbahasa inggris dalam konteks kehidupan nyata. Itu sebabnya siswa mendapatkan
begitu banyak kesulitan untuk mengungkapkan ide. Berdasarkan pengalaman
penulis saat mewawancarai siswa dan guru dari SMK N 1 Kudus, sebagian besar
siswa merasa berbicara bahasa inggris itu sangat sulit dan mereka merasa takut. Hal
ini dapat dibuktikan dengan skor bahasa Inggris khususnya dalam kemampuan
berbicara, rata-rata siswa kelas sepuluh kurang dari 75,00. Fakta-fakta tersebut
membuat penulis kemudian tertarik untuk mengadakan penelitian untuk
meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa dari siswa kelas sepuluh SMK N 1
Kudus dengan menggunakan teknik Good Morning Ball Game.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas Good Morning Ball
Game sebagai teknik pengajaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa
kelas sepuluh SMK N 1 Kudus. Teknik ini pada dasarnya berfungsi untuk
menstimulus siswa untuk berbicara dengan penuh percaya diri.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental tanpa kelompok kontrol,
tetapi menggunakan satu kelompok pre-test dan post-test. Dikarenakan jenis
populasi yang homogen dengan jumlah lebih dari 100, penulis kemudian
melakukan penelitian menggunakan sample yang diambil dengan menggunakan
teknik cluster random sampling. Kemudian, penulis mendapat X AK 2 sebagai
sampel penelitian. Instrumen yang digunakan oleh penulis tes penampilan berbicara
(monolog) dan untuk mengukurnya penulis menggunakan speaking scoring rubric.
Penulis kemudian menganalisis data dan menguji hipotesis. Rata-rata untuk
pre-test adalah 65,77, SD adalah 7.68. Sedangkan untuk post-test rata-ratanya =
81,59 dan SD = 5,36. Untuk pengujian hipotesis penulis memperoleh t = -9,15
sementara t-tabel 5% dengan ekor kiri adalah -1,697. Dengan demikian dapat
diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa Good Morning Ball Game sebagai teknik telah
terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas Sepuluh
SMK Negeri 1 Kudus pada tahun akademik 2014/2015.
Dari fakta di atas, kemudian penulis dapat menyarankan pada guru bahasa
Inggris untuk dapat mengambil manfaat dari Good Morning Ball Game sebagai
teknik untuk membantu siswa dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mereka.
