Be With MeA prayer by Farrell Mason
Beloved,If I could ask of You one thing, what would it be?
To see into the futureOr maybe to return again the way from which I came.
A peek at Your Love Plan,Or to shadow a day-in-the-life of the great I AM.
Answers would be nice, to Life’s impossible questions—The truth of Time,
And why the heart must break.Could I have Your word that all will be well, always.
Would I use my precious ask to plead for forgiveness for all the many ways I’ve gotten it wrong.Or just say thank you.
Could I ask if You are proud of me?Or for assurance that something marvelous is planned for the Hereafter.
Maybe I would ask how to love like You loveYes, I could certainly ask for joy
And a little of that peace beyond all understanding. But what I really want to ask of You is:
—Be with me—now. whatever happens. forever.
This is my prayer.Amen.

An Unexpected Missionby Steve LaForge
Wednesday, June 22nd at 9:45 AM. I entered a staff meeting. My mind wasn’t totally focused. I was thinking about an upcoming July mission trip to Puerto Rico. Katie was talking about a sudden opening in the Youth trip to Guatemala. Then I heard ‘Hey Steve! You should go!’. Huh? What did she just say? 15 minutes and a phone-call-to-my-wife later, I was committed. 48 hours later I was on my way to the airport.
Well – if you don’t know it already – this is a truly amazing group! I was nervous because I didn’t know most who were going on the trip. They took care of that before we ever stepped on the plane. Everyone in the group made me feel like I had always been a part of the team.
On Sunday morning we began our real adventure – which was to share our hearts with the people of Guatemala. Our young people immediately opened their arms to hug the young Guatemalan students. They too were already waiting with open arms. Every day, all day was filled with hugs, laughs, tears, and joy. There were not any barriers – age, sex, economics – none of that made a difference. Everyone was one: one family – God’s family – sharing, caring, and loving.
Thank you Youth Group for allowing me to join you! I learned a lot from each of you, and I learned a lot about each of you. I am amazed by your love and your kindness. Thank you for welcoming me, and for loving our Guatemalan family. I have every confidence that you will go forth and share God’s love throughout the rest of your days.
I do have one last favor to ask … would you please take the rest of us with you?
God bless!

Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8 AM to 5 PM beginning August 1
One look at the mental illness epidemic in America will show you how desperately we need to prioritize mental, emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being. Beginning Aug. 1, we will
open up a center that will combat these issues – the Center for Healing and Spirituality.
Led by our new Spiritual Director, Dr. Ben Curtis, this place will be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 AM to 5 PM at Campbell West, the former parsonage house behind the
church. It will offer individual spiritual direction and classes that teach spiritual formation.
Who is Ben Curtis?
Dr. Ben Curtis, who just retired after more than four decades as Professor of Religion, Pastoral Care, and Spiritual Formation at Belmont
University, will be the Spiritual Director in Residence at Woodmont’s new center. He will be available for individual spiritual direction as well
as lead classes on Spiritual Formation. We eventually hope to offer longer classes on weekends and even spiritual retreats.
Meet Ben Curtis
You are invited to meet Dr. Curtis before he begins this new and valuable ministry at Woodmont. He will be available on Sunday, July 29th at 9:30 in Room 105, and at 11:00 in Room 100. Dr.
Curtis will share thoughts about spiritual formation, talk some about the new center, and then answer questions.
