In order for the nucleus to divide, the cell must follow some very special steps:P prophaseM metaphaseA anaphaseT telophase
THE PURPOSE OF MITOSIS IS TO DIVIDE THE CELL’S NUCLEUS
The nuclear membrane will disintegrate
The nucleolus disappears
Chromosomes condense
The spindle apparatus begins to form
PROPHASE
The chromosomes reach the poles of the cell
The nuclear membranes re-form
The nucleolus reappears
Chromosomes decondense
TELOPHASE
The purpose of cytokinesis is to divide the cell (and it’s cytoplasm). Cytokinesis is not the same for plant and animal cells
CYTOKINESIS FOLLOWS TELOPHASE
In plant cells a CELL PLATE forms that divides the cells.
In animal cells, a cleavage furrow forms at the equator of a cell and pinches downward until the cell divides.
CYTOKINESIS IS DIFFERENT IN A PLANT CELL COMPARED TO AN ANIMAL CELL.
1. During what stage of mitosis does the nuclear membrane begin to disappear?
2. During what stage of mitosis do the chromosomes line up at the cell’s equator?
3. What is/are the product(s) of mitosis?4. What stage of mitosis do you see below?
DID YOU GET IT?
