Go Jim Go! Of course, one of our favorite events of the year did not disappoint again this year! SFMS raised more than $3500 for the “Go Jim Go” fundraiser benefitting Le Bonheur Children’s hospital. The event was full of cheers, even when we found out Jim Jaggers couldn’t be on the bikes today due to an injury. That did not stop him from coming out to cheer on his team! The fundraiser has hit $350,000 for 2016 so far, pushing his overall donations to $2 million. This is Jim and his team’s 11 th year!

Back in the Saddle! Thank you for welcoming me into the SFMS family this year. We have had a busy and productive start to the school year. Your on-going support is appreciated!

Our enrollment of 1,112 students includes more than 100 “new-to-Collierville” students.

Also new to the SFMS are 13 teachers: Mr. Couvion (Math 6), Ms. Cardwell (Writing 7), Mr. Parker (Language Arts 7), Mrs. Puida (Language Arts 7), Ms. Curry (Science 8), Mrs. Hines (Science/Physical Science 8), Dr. Carmen Kelsey (Writing 8), Mr. Moody (Math 8/Algebra I), Mr. Warren (US History 8), Mrs. Yarbro (Math 8), Mrs. Jones (Math 7 and 8/Learning Lab), Mrs. Sara Hodge (Curriculum Technology Trainer) and Mrs. Sara Raskett (Art). Each of these new teachers have added content knowledge, dedication and enthusiasm to the SFMS family!

SFMS welcomed another cohort of twenty-five sixth grade STEM Scholars. We will continue to add a new cohort each year, in preparation for advanced math, science, and engineering study at Collierville High School and beyond!

Speaking of STEM, there are changes happening with our STEM teachers. Mr. Shoemake is moving to CHS where he will continue the innovation started at SFMS and prepare for our students to transition to the high school. She will teach Math 6 and bring her experience with digital learning to Schilling.

Extra-curricular activities, a key pillar of the SFMS experience, are underway. Please consider having your student join a sport, club or organization. Contact information for each activity is listed on our website.

Collection for the Schilling Showdown Fundraiser is over, but the celebration continues. Thank you to our PTSA volunteers for their hard work and dedication coordinating this event. Thank you for supporting our students and teachers!

Each morning as I walk through the doors of SFMS, I feel the positive energy created by our dedicated teachers, staff and students. Go Jim Go! Of course, one of our favorite events of the year did not

disappoint again this year! SFMS raised more than $3500 for the

“Go Jim Go” fundraiser benefitting Le Bonheur Children’s

hospital. The event was full of cheers, even when we found out

We are excited that 90 runners are on our team this year! The team began the season in August by running in the Brooks Twilight Meet at Mike Rose Complex then continued the season by running in the 2- mile Memphis Youth Athletics meets at Shelby Farms. Runners saw improvements in their run times by up to 2 minutes over the season! We finished out the season by running in the Coach Robbie Simmons Memorial Meet at Johnson Park where Camille Carlson earned 5th place for the girls. Alec Espinola ran in the TMSAA West Sectionals on October 1, in Martin, TN, and earned 4th place in the boys’ AA division, qualifying him to run in the TMSAA State Championships on October 8th, in Clarksville, TN. West TN Regionals will be held at Shelby Farms on October 15th. Congratulations to our runners on a great season!

Coach Joanne Webber and Coach Benay Arwine.

Howdy, (We need you to) Partner (with us)!

Yes, that was a poor attempt to tie our

us! Consider volunteering at Schilling Farms

We also have several events throughout the

year where we can always use volunteers to

help them all go smoothly. Please visit our

website for Health Room sign up, and Ms.

anytime to help!

If you’re interested in helping at one of the

fun events, please sign up for BOB to get

Are you on Powerschool?

Dear SFMS Family It is hard to believe we are in October. I hope you have had a great start to 2016-2017. PTSA has been busy working behind the scenes to serve you and all of our children (whether is it is helping families to be connected with the "weekly events' through our Website (www.sfsmptsa.org), Facebook, Twitter or our "Bottom of the Backpack" email, or helping our teachers or administrators). I’d like to thank our PTSA board members and all of our volunteers who have helped us get this school year off to a great start, and for your continued support. We need and love our volunteers. I would also like to thank all of our generous parents who supported and donated to our Schilling Showdown fundraiser. We have, once again, exceeded our goal. Without the support of our amazing parents we could not do all the things we do for our school.

You make it possible! Thank you! Sean Johnson PTSA President
