I n R o m a n s 5 : 1 5 - 1 6 , P a u l expresses his desire for a time when his readers are so united that they can join together with one voice to praise God. Behind that English phrase, “join together,” is the Greek word oJmoqumado/n.(The English version of the word is- homothumadón.) Bible translators often translated that word as “with one accord.” What I want you to know is that this word refers to togetherness and “is used to stress the i nne r unan im i t y o f t he community” of faith. That word is found so often in the Book of Acts because a significant attribute of t h e e a r l y c h u r c h w a s i t s togetherness/unity/unanimity.

Acts 1:14 These all with one mind w e r e c o n t i n u a l l y d e v o t i n g themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

Acts 2 :46 And day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from

house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, . . .

Acts 4:24 And when they heard this, they lifted their voices to God with one accord and said, “O Lord, it is Thou who didst make the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them, . . .

Acts 5:12 And at the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were taking place among the people; and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s portico.

Together––that is what the early church community was. They were together.

In my years of extensive travel across our district, we experience diversity and variety from every extreme. Yet, each and every church or ministry serves with purpose. I don't consider that we have 304 churches dotted across the landscape of South Texas. Instead, I see us as one (1) church in over 300 locations, all called to be road-builders for transporting the Gospel message to the lost. God wants us to be a community of believers knit together in faith, in love, in purpose, and in action. Only the Holy Spirit working within us and among us can make that happen.

Satan battles that kind of unity. Satan knows what God can do with and through a church that is truly united in the oJmoqumado/n way. We cooperate with the Holy Spirit and encourage the creation of oJmoqumado/n among us when we embrace the New Testament’s vision of Christian community and actively oppose Satan’s efforts to stifle it.

Las t November, I s tood i n Jerusalem in the Upper Room, t r y ing to imag ine myse l f a participant in the last supper with The Lord and His disciples. I imagined being a part of that first gathering when the Pentecostal outpouring first occurred.

What would it have been like to be one of Charles Parham’s students at Bethel Bible College in Topeka, KS? Our own Houstonian, William J. Seymour knew the limitations of societies equality, still the Spirit knew no boundaries. The revivals of Azusa were not the result of g i m m i c k s , p r o g r a m s a n d coordinated efforts of men. The h u m b l e b e g i n n i n g s o f o u r fellowship, the Assemblies of God, nearly one hundred years ago were the result of the Holy Spirit bringing vision and vitality to folks uniting together their giftings, callings and passions. Today, we are not simply the recipients of t h e i r a c t i o n s , b u t , w e a r e PARTICIPANTS who, with the same anointing of the Holy Spirit carrying this uncompromising message of grace, love and forgiveness to the lost in our Jerusalem, our Judeas, our Samarias and unto the uttermost parts of this world.

To celebrate 100 years of the Assemblies of God, on Monday, April 21, 2014, 7pm, we will gather at Lindale Assembly of God, Hous ton , f o r a p re -counc i l Centennial Celebration. My sincere prayer is that we will gather as ONE & experience another great outpouring of the Holy Spirit that will propel us forward.

Page 10: The STAR - Spring 2014

…I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

2 Timothy 1:6-7 (NIV)

The word FIRE represents a continuous theme found throughout the Bible. It’s representation has powerful implications in our lives. Let's look at three Fan the Flame Prayers that will propel us into a glorious future:

Fan the Flame Prayer #1

Lord, Light My Path!

By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. (Exodus 13:21 NIV)

Throughout the circumstances of life, God will light your way. He will lead you and guide you. The fire of His presence and glory illuminate your way through every decision, crisis, confusion and situation. You can be sure that God will send a fire to light your way. Fan the Flame!

Fan the Flame Prayer #2

Lord, Purify My Heart!

For he will be like a refiner's fire or a launderer's soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. (Malachi 3:2-3 NIV)

The fire of God's presence reveals the imperfections of our lives and purges them from us. In the reflection of His glory, we observe the flaws in our attitudes and character and yield to God's transforming power. It is God's plan to convert our lives into that which brings Him honor. Fan the Flame!

Fan the Flame Prayer #3 Lord, Fill and Refill Me with Your Holy Spirit

He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. (Matthew 3:11 NIV)Do not put out the Spirit's fire;

(1 Thessalonians 5:19 NIV)

The Holy Spirit revives, energizes, and empowers our lives. He is at work in us in our jobs, at our schools, in our homes, everywhere we go. Release the power, the gifts and the work of the Holy Spirit in your life and in your church. Fan the Flame!

Donna and I pray that God will reveal His goodness to you and your family each day. In our lives, our homes and in our churches, let us join together to Fan the Flame.

Happy New Year! We pray that you are richly blessed in 2014.

Here are a couple of events that we are looking forward to sharing with each of you.

We want to connect with each Children’s Pastor in the South Texas District. If we don’t have your Children’s Pastors information, please let us know. We want to be a resource for them.

Kids Camp is coming fast! It’s never too early to start planning. We are excited to have Randy Christensen as our speaker.

Please make sure you send your BGMC offerings directly to the National Office in Springfield, Missouri. This ensures that our missionaries can get the funds they need quickly.

I start off the New Year of 2014 with a WARNING! Most of Paul's messages, letters, were for purpose of CORRECTION. Paul gave warning to al l c h u r c h e s . T h i s i s w h y REVIVAL services are so important in these last day's of GRACE. In every generation two things have always been certain; First, there has always been a DECEIVER. Satan has an Anti-Christ waiting in the wings for every generation of this world. Second, God 's provision has e n a b l e d e v e r y g e n e r a t i o n w i t h a DELIVERER. Weather it was through a person, Prophet, Teacher, Evangelist, Pastor, Apostle, or the Church. Paul's warning to the church in Corinth was that in the last day's, there would be certain agents of deception. Paul was saying it would be within the walls of the Church. In 2 Corinthians 11:4 For if (he) that cometh preaching another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with HIM. There are many things that come unde r t he OTHER JESUS! The other Jesus is this modern gospel that never

teaches people or ministers to commit to Jesus as Lord of Lords or King of Kings. This Jesus says to society that they can CUSTOMIZE OR TAYLOR MAKE a Jesus that has no DEITY. You only know the deity of the original Jesus through a PRAYER life and not through just methods or a way of worldly thinking.

Paul said ANOTHER SPIRIT, which ye have not received. This is another reason for REVIVAL. In Revival, the Holy Spirit convicts mankind under the Chain of Command of the Host of Heaven to JESUS, then Jesus the Great High Priest a n d C o u n s e l o r p r e s e n t s mankind to God's throne room. There is a reason we need a move of God to take place in every church service. One is so we do not become mechanical or religious. This “other Jesus” has weights that will deceive the Church into thinking worldly and cease to be Heavenly

minded and cease to run The Race. T h e n P a u l s a i d a n o t h e r GOSPEL. This other gospel leads us into HERESY. The original Jesus paid a price and took the place of Mankind. There was a price that every Min is ter must guard and cherish. Here we are on the banks of the Rivers of Life and our sights are in view of the Promised Land. Let us not be deceived into fables and gimmicks or novelties to gain a crowd. WARNING! We Keep Marching! Let's Have Revival, it is good for the Soul!
