step down from his role as Newsletter Editor.

This will be Matt’s last issue as the editor

many changes to the Star Dust over the last

six and a half years, including the move to

digital distribution, which has been a huge

cost savings to the club and hopefully saved

more than a few trees. Matt was

Some Sad News…

With much grief and sorrow I’m sad to announce the passing of one of our longtime Desert Stars members Terese M Carena Schulte.

Terese was an active member who was the “life of the party”, who made everyone around her smile and laugh. She just retired her GL for a C300 that, in her words, ”…had plenty of room for her grand Boys!”

Rich and Terese traveled the world always returning with a great, “Terese story!” Her smile and generous personality will be missed.

We have a Poker Run in the planning. Please mark your calendars for a day of fun and high stakes cards. We will be driving to several spots in the valley along with your friends in the Desert Stars. Not only will this event consist of the usual distribution of cards to build your 5-card hand but also some clues will be peppered along the route that will allow you to enhance your hand with additional cards to make that 5-card poker hand a winner. This will be a good time so mark your calendars for March 14th and look for more information in the next issue of The StarDust newsletter.

Mark your Calendar! The Phoenix Art Museum has announced a very special showing of exceptional Racing Cars – the first major exhibition of race cars ever shown at the museum. Showcasing an outstanding selection of cars by Mercedes-Benz, Maserati, Ferrari, Ford, Bugatti and more, all on loan from internationally recognized collections and automotive museums, this landmark exhibition brings 22 of history’s most successful race cars to the Valley of the Sun. Featured cars are winners of the world’s most celebrated races including Le Mans, the Indianapolis 500, the Mille Miglia, Targo Florio and others. This is an exhibit NOT to be missed.

On Sunday, February 9, the Desert Stars will tour this limited-time exhibit with our own personal docents, and learn exciting details and history of these one-of-a-kind motorcars and their drivers. Following our private tour, we’ll drive to a notable Phoenix restaurant for dinner and time to visit and discuss what is sure to be a memorable experience.

A discounted entrance fee and docents have been arranged with the Museum, and we’re working the dinner details to assure a great evening. A package price will include the museum entry fee, the guided tour and a fabulous dinner! Details will be included in the January StarDust!

Don’t miss this extraordinary exhibition of some of history’s most important racecars! Plan now to join the Desert Stars for a guided museum tour followed by Sunday Dinner.

See you there!

In the Mirror: Havasupai Rallye

By Todd Bush

Held October 4-6, 2019

Recently, the Desert Stars met

in Tucson Arizona for the yearly

Havasupai Rallye event. This

year was sure to be challenging

as 17 cars participated in a

weekend tour through

America’s Cold War and

aeronautical past. Home base

was the beautiful Loew’s

Ventana Canyon Resort in the

foothills. From there our

participants searched for clues

along the way to the Pima Air

and Space Museum. At Pima,

clues proved difficult for many,

as they were spread out

amongst the museum’s 80

acres of displayed aircraft and

memorabilia.

Next up, was a relaxing drive down I19 into Green Valley for lunch at the Conoa Ranch Golf Resort. From there, our Desert Stars

went just north to the Titan Missile Museum. Many of the participants enjoyed the one hour below ground tour of the command

center which was very active during the Cold War era. After departing the Titan, everyone stopped briefly at the historical San

Xavier Mission which was originally founded in 1692. From there participants were flooded with clues heading through historic

downtown Tucson en route back to Loews.

Saturday evening the Desert Stars enjoyed dinner at the private Mountain Oyster Club. The décor and food was just amazing.

Following dinner, we announced our three couples that took first, second and third place. The winners were Chuck and Ava

Stanford, Dick and Mindy Sharp, and Bob Yoder and Ed Crawford, respectively. Sunday morning, everyone was on their own for

breakfast. Some were on the road early back towards Phoenix, while others enjoyed a lazy morning around the beautiful grounds

of the Loews resort.

Co-host Debra Larson organized us all while her husband,

Jim, took photos of our day.
