Problem

Althoughthecountryhasmadegreatprogresssince1994toimprovethequalityoflifeofSouthAfricanresidentsbyextendingbasicservicestopreviouslyun- andunder-servicedhouseholds,particularlyinruralandinformalareas,theremainingbacklogisthemostdifficulttoservice

Inaddition,theexpansion ofservicewasoftendoneattheexpenseofexistingservicesasmaintenancewasneglected

ThebestqualityofinfrastructureforwaterwasreportedintheWC. Theaverage

weightedwaterIQIscoreislowestinLimpopo (3,37),

followedbyEasternCape (3,53),NorthWest(3,73)andKwaZulu-Natal

(3,83).
