    Chinas average connection speed has grown by nearly hal

    since Q1 2008, and exceeded 1 Mbps or the frst time in

    Canadas average connection speed grew over the last three

    years by nearly 70%, double the growth rate o 35% seen

    in the United States. Average connection speeds in Chile, Colombia, and Paraguay

    more than doubled rom Q1 2008 to Q1 2011.

    same period. Average peak connection speeds in Argentina, Brazil,

    Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, and Uruguay more than

    doubled rom Q1 2008 to Q1 2011.

    In January 2008, a pair o cut submarine telecom cables in

    the Mediterranean just north o Egypt caused severe Internetoutages and disruptions in the Middle East, Pakistan and India.

    In September 2008, Hurricane Ike caused extensive Internet

    outages across the United States.

    In December 2008, three key submarine cables in the

    Mediterranean were severed, which impacted Internet

    trafc in the Middle East and Indian subcontinent.

    In July 2009, damage to the undersea SAT-3 cable caused

    East (April), and Malaysia (April).
