DAILY LITURGY for the Week of October 14, 2018

All Souls‘ Day

Mass of Remembrance November 2, 2018 — 7:00 PM

Church of Saint Ann

The Mass of Remembrance is a special Liturgy held every year in

November to remember and celebrate the lives of our loved ones‘

who have gone before us to live in the light of the Lord. You, your

family and your friends are invited to join us for our annual Mass of

Remembrance for those who have died this past year. The names of

the deceased are read (we remember by name all those who have

been buried from our church this past year, October 1, 2017 to

October 1, 2018). Their names have been inscribed in our Parish

Book of Remembrance which will be at a place of honor in our

church during the month of November.

We will also have a special Altar of Remembrance in the church

during the month of November. Parishioners are invited to bring a

small picture of your loved one to place on the altar. Please include

your name and phone number on the back of the photo.

GOSPEL O c t o b e r 1 4 , 2 0 1 8

28th Sunday in Ordinary Time Mark 10:17-30

As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up, knelt down

before him, and asked him, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit

eternal life?" Jesus answered him, "Why do you call me good? No

one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: You shall

not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall

not bear false witness; you shall not defraud; honor your father and

your mother." He replied and said to him, "Teacher, all of these I

have observed from my youth." Jesus, looking at him, loved him and

said to him, "You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have,

and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come,

follow me." At that statement his face fell, and he went away sad, for

he had many possessions.

Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for

those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!" The

disciples were amazed at his words. So Jesus again said to them in

reply, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!

It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for

one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." They were exceedingly

astonished and said among themselves, "Then who can be saved?"

Jesus looked at them and said, "For human beings it is impossible,

but not for God. All things are possible for God." Peter began to say

to him, "We have given up everything and followed you." Jesus said,

"Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or

brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake

and for the sake of the gospel who will not receive a hundred times

more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters

and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and

eternal life in the age to come."

REFLECTION ―All things are possible for God.‖ Jesus follows a series of

challenging pronouncements with this line—some of the most

consoling words that he utters in the Gospels. Recall the times that

you have had to rely on God because you didn‘t know if you could

manage on your own. For us human beings on our own, it may well

be impossible, but for God, all things are possible.

Veterans Haven Aid Snacks and Toiletries

Weekend of November 3 and 4, 2018 Our Adopt A Platoon program to aid veterans overseas has been modified to aid New Jersey veterans returning from overseas. Veteran’s Haven in Winslow, New Jersey is transitional housing for up to 80 returning New Jersey soldiers after overseas assign-ment. It helps them re-adjust and get back into American society.

The past eight years, Saint Ann’s parishioners have generously donated items to Adopt A Platoon. Now let’s share our gratitude to our returning soldiers for the upcoming holidays.

The types of items needed are: A Variety of Snacks: Pretzels, microwave popcorn, twizzlers, goldfish crackers, cookie packs, and jerky sticks.

Toiletries Plus Needed: Handiwipes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, Sudoku puzzles and socks.

All items should be individual sizes rather than a family size. Donation boxes will be located near the entrance to the Faith Development Center that weekend.

Help put a smile on a GI’s face! In addition, if you wish to spon-sor a box ($15), please put the money in an envelope labeled "Veteran’s Haven" and place it in the collection basket or leave it at the Welcome Desk. Make any checks payable to The Church of Saint Ann.

Thanks for your support of our soldiers.

The Gift of Peace ―What I would like to leave behind is a simple prayer that each of you may find what I have found—God’s special gift to us all: the gift of peace. When we are at peace, we find the freedom to be most fully who we are, even in the worst of times. We let go of what is nonessential and embrace what is essential. We empty ourselves so that God may more fully work within us. And we become instruments in the hands of the Lord.‖ by Cardinal Joseph Benardin.

Prayer: Lord, open my hands so I can accept the gift of your peace in my life.

Our Lady of Guadalupe WE CELEBRATE OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE,

PATRONESS OF ALL THE AMERICAS From November 17 through November 23, 2018 our parish will be participating along with many parishes throughout the Diocese of Trenton in a tradition that began more than a half century ago to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of all the Americas.

It will begin with a torchlight procession with an image of our Lady that will be displayed at all the Masses on the weekend of November 17/18, 2018 and include a few activities throughout the week. We are looking for Latino and Hispanic parishioners who can walk in the opening entrance procession at Mass wearing their country’s native dress/clothing. The Mass is on Saturday evening, November 17 at 5:00 p.m.

If you are available and can join in the procession, please contact Gary Maccaroni at (609) 882-6491, ext. 116 or at [email protected].

Finance Council Call for Volunteers

Calling all parishioners! The Church of Saint Ann is in need of new Finance Committee members and we are looking for some dedicated volunteers to help us oversee all activities associated with the financial operation, of all our facilities. The Church desires to have a diverse group of expert women and men with Finance and Communication skills. If you have a skill relative to these needs you are invited to volunteer your service. If you wish to join the Committee and attend the monthly meetings please contact Father Dela Cruz at (609) 882-6491 ext. 112 or [email protected] to request information on the member responsibilities and how to apply.

World Mission Sunday Next week, we will celebrate World Mission Sunday. On this day, Pope Francis calls all of us - children of God - to be ―voices for mission.‖ On that day we ―speak up‖ through our prayers and personal sacrifices for our brothers and sisters in Missions - in places like Uganda where people face food uncertainty and violence. . . in the Philippines where local clergy face martyrdom . . . in Oceania where peoples’ livelihoods are threatened by climate change . . . and in remote regions of Latin America where people are hearing the Gospel for the first time.

Raise you voice this World Mission Sunday by supporting the priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, and lay catechists who provide loving service to those most in need. May your faith remain ever young when it is open to the mission that Christ entrusts to us. As is our custom, we will take up only one collection. Envelopes are available at the doors of the Church.

Rosary Altar Society Meeting Our October meeting will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018, at 7:00 PM, in the Pope John Paul Community Room. We will begin with the Rosary, hold a brief business meeting, followed by refreshments and fellowship. We are looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Women of the parish: If you are interested in becoming a member, please feel free to join us at any of our meetings.

Rosary Altar Society Bakers Needed

Reminder, bakers are needed for the Rosary Altar semi-annual Bake Sale on the weekend of October 27-28. Baked goods can be dropped off outside the Pope John Paul Community Room on Saturday morning, October 27, from 8:00 AM to noon, or before or after any of the Masses that weekend. If you enjoy baking, please consider providing a baked good for our sale.

An Adult Faith Formation Opportunity and Shared

Reflection on Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation

Rejoice and Be Glad: “On the Call to Holiness in the

Contemporary World.”

Tuesday Evening, October 16

7:00 PM in the FDC

To answer God’s call to holiness, Christians must care for the poor, the sick and the immigrant, Pope Francis wrote in his latest major guidance to the Catholic Church, published on April 16. The document, titled ―Gaudete et Exsultate‖ (Latin for ―Rejoice and Be Glad‖), is Francis’s latest major publication in his five-year papacy. This apostolic exhortation, which we will explore in three sessions of shared reflection, takes up the theme of holiness (as it belongs to all people). Written in practical terms for us living in today’s world, Pope Francis challenges us to rethink our current understanding of holiness. He speaks of the beauty of Christian life, and what it means to be a Catholic Christian in the 21st cen-tury. Come and break open this rich and exciting letter for our day and time! It is sure to inspire you to live your faith with joy and great love! The evening, which includes shared discussion, is facilitated by Fred Vasapolli (parish scripture study leader).

ANNOUNCEMENTS, continued

Annual Catholic Appeal Update Our Parish remains in action supporting the “Annual Catholic Appeal”. The Church and Diocese are very grateful for this sup-port. As of 10-01-18 our Parish has raised $67,655 or 65% of our goal of $105,000. Last year we had the same goal and achieved it. We offer many thanks to those who have already contributed to the many ministries supported by the Annual Appeal. For those who have not yet had the opportunity, it is not too late. There are ACA Brochures and Pledge cards available at the entrances to the Church to provide you information on how you can participate in this important cause. If you wish to make a gift to the campaign, please note that pledges made at this point would only have 2 or 3 monthly installments.

You can make your gift to the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal by completing a card found at the Parish, by mailing a gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal at 701 Lawrenceville Rd. Trenton, NJ 08648, or by visiting www.dioceseoftrenton.org/catholicappeal. God Bless You and thank you for all that you do for our church and the ministries we provide for.
