FROM THE PRESIDENT:
Fall is upon us, Thanksgiving will soon be here,
but for some reason I’m already humming
Christmas songs in my head. The one that seems
to be the main song is “In the Bleak Mid-Winter.”
Now, one of the verses starts with “What can I
give him poor as I am.” and ends with “What can I
give him, give my heart.”
Now, although the song talks about what can we
give him, we all know that we have received a
multitude of gifts from him, and we know that the
gifts we have received are not ours alone. God
gave them to us for the purpose of serving Him
and serving other people. Each of us has
something to give. We can give our money and
our time to charity, be a friend to someone who is
sick or lonely, do volunteer work, or be a
peacemaker, teacher or minister. We may choose a
service-oriented occupation, or we may just do our
everyday jobs with integrity and respect for others.
I would like to invite you to think about how you
can share some of your gifts in some potentially
new and different ways. Certainly monetary
donations allow organizations to do things they
couldn’t do without the dollars. You can,
however, do other things with your money, your
heart, and your time. Perhaps you’d be willing to
purchase some food for a food cupboard or maybe
even volunteer at one on a regular basis. How
about going with others to lunch at the Coffee
Connection which would be helping women who
have been incarcerated work to bring themselves
back into daily life. You might think about going
to monthly meetings at the Women’s Interfaith
Coalition (WIC) which could expand your
horizons as all faiths come together sharing a
program. If you and your friends enjoy knitting or
crocheting, you might want to make some lap
robes which are always needed in various nursing
homes around our area. If you have concerns
about what you hear in the news about human
trafficking, go to the meeting of the Rochester
Regional Coalition Against Human Trafficking
(RRCAHT). These folks are working hard to
make people aware of the problems that exist right
here in Rochester and surrounding towns; they are
getting involved! And you are always welcome at
the Church Women United (CWU) celebrations
where we share Christian fellowship on a regular
basis and where we often sit down together to
share a meal. You might even want to come to
one (or more) of our board meetings to find out
how we plan for all the things that we are involved
in. During this coming season of Thanksgiving
(and Christmas), I invite you to think about what
you want your life to be about. Maybe it’s time to
take stock of what you have and where you are on
your journey with God. Perhaps you could stretch
yourself to invite others into your circle and go
forward to make a heartfelt difference in our
world. Invite others into your heart of sharing.

REFLECTIONS ON THE “DAY OF
REFLECTION”:
Day of Reflection… A Time of Blessing
What a delightful gathering on October 7th when
we gathered for Day of Reflection…
A time of Blessing at the First Baptist Church of
Rochester on Allens Creek Road. The gathering
was facilitated by Dr. Deni Mack, Pastoral
Associate at Church of the Assumption, in
Fairport. We sang, prayed, and participated in
Lectio Divina, the art of reflecting on the sacred
reading of scripture.
Participating in Lectio Divina was a one of the
highlights of our time together. Deni read the
passage of Martha and Mary (Luke 10:38-42)
three times with questions posed between each
reading. Great discussion was had as the scripture
enfolded us. Deni closed our time together with a
blessing prayer and blessings for us to take with
us.
Following Deni’s presentation, a luncheon was
served. A special thank you was expressed to
Sally Dodgson and the women of First Baptist
Church for their warm welcome.
Blessings,
Rev. Sue Forsyth
