Crane Garden Buildings is a family run business that has been making timber buildings in Norfolk for nearly 50 years. We are a market leader in producing high quality timber buildings of all types.
We are proud to acknowledge that much of our trade is built around our reputation; we firmly believe that this is because we provide a personal service from design stage to installation, where the customer always comes first and we leave them delighted with their building.
Our buildings are exceptional and unrivalled. We source the best quality timber and materials for every stage of our building process right down to the paint systems we use. We strive to make the best buildings possible, so we are always in the market place ensuring that any improvements in products, techniques and components are implemented by us straight away.
We employ skilled craftsmen and a well regarded installation team to finish your building to the very highest of our expected standards.
We take our environmental responsibility extremely seriously. We are an FSC®
certified company, which means all the timber we use is traceable and grown in forests that are well managed and each tree is replanted.
Our waste timber is used to heat our workshop, and any residual waste is back sorted for recycling. We endeavour to use products and work in a way that has very little impact on the environment.

1. Capillary groove in shiplap: this groove stops water tracking back around the shiplap on painted buildings.
2. Rounded edges: we form rounded edges on the shiplap to help our paint and stains bond well with the timber; this provides a better coverage of paint than if we were to make shiplap with sharp edges.
3. Unique bottom board: this is designed to give an overhang to cover the endgrains of the floor boards. A water drip, which is the small groove carved into the back face of this board, stops any water being soaked up.
4. Tanalised floor bearers: we tanalise the floor bearers to increase the longevity of the timber. The timber is pressure treated with a preservative which acts as rot protection, and is excellent for the floor it it becomes exposed to excess water.
5. Door drip: this is designed to interlock into shiplap to ensure there is no leakage path.

6. Window sill: this has been developed with a rounded face to improve paint adhesion.
7. Interlocking window: our joinery made windows are designed so the sill interlocks into the cladding to remove the risk of leaking.
8. Nylon backed roofing felt: as standard, our non-rip heavy duty felt is torched onto the roof to increase its lifespan.
9. Framed, ledged and braced, mortised and tenoned doors: these are made in-house by our expert joiners.
10. Roof trusses: these are used on buildings that are 3.0m and over in length to give the roof extra strength and support. We also use trusses if you choose cedar shingles or slate tiles, or if you have a lower pitched apex roof than is standard.

We offer a comprehensive range of standard sized buildings, which are available in either a pent or apex roof design. You can also choose the eave height that you require and where you would like the door(s) and window(s) to be placed to suit your purpose. We make each building to order, so we can also produce non-standard sizes and designs whenever we are required to.

Windows Options
The joiners in our workshop manufacture the windows to our own very high standards. They are glazed with toughened safety glass as a standard safety feature. You can choose where to put your windows in your building, or have none at all. Choose which, if any, you want to be opening windows, whether you want them double glazed, plain or Georgian in style, or if you would like a Velux window, (Velux windows are available on Superior Sheds if you choose either cedar shingle or slate effect roofing tiles).

You can choose whether you want a single door or double doors, an extra door or a door with a window in it for your build-ing needs. Our framed, ledged and braced, mortised and tenoned doors are all made in-house by our expert joiners.

Our Sheds and Workshops are exceptionally strong and we are very proud of our unique Security Pack that is the perfect choice if you have any objects of value that are to be stored inside the building.
Since the introduction of our Security Pack in 1994, theft from our customers' sheds has been virtually eradicated. We have worked closely with a lock manufacturer to
produce our unique 7 lever security lock. The Security Pack consists of a security bolt, non-returnable security screws on the hinges and stainless steel bars at all of the windows.
Security Lock - A heavy duty sliding bolt with fully encased 7 lever lock. It is anti-sawing, anti-picking, anti-cropping and anti-prising with its own unique key.
Window Bars - We use stainless steel bars, that are mortised into the window frame during manufacture.
Security Screws - Non-returnable security screws on hinges makes it impossible to unscrew them.

We can line and insulate your building so that it can be used all year round, as well as to increase your comfort, decrease any noise levels and finish off your building in a very attractive manner.
We firstly trap a breathable paper membrane between the studwork and the external
cladding during the manufacturing stage, which acts as a moisture trap, and then we insulate the cavity and fix the oak faced plywood internally. The oak facing gives it a natural, warm finish and it is robust enough to handle any shelving or hooks as well.

Cedar Shingles
We use only the finest quality Canadian Cedar Shingles: these are expertly tiled by our own skilled craftsmen to give a traditional finish, and they 'silver' as they age. They are expected to last 25-35 years, and are secured using stainless steel fixings.
Slate Effect
These individually laid composite slate tiles bring nature and technology together, providing the ultimate protection against UV rays, rain, wind, hail and fire, and they carry a 50 year limited warranty. Opt for a more traditional grey, or choose the more vibrant terracotta, which looks great with the lighter paint shades. The tiles are secured using stainless steel fixings.
Our standard roof covering is a heavy duty, 35kg green mineralised felt, which is non-rip and gets torched onto the roof. We also offer two other roof materials that can enhance and add longevity to your building.
Electric pack
For lighting and using any equipment in your building, you may wish to consider our electric pack, which is recess fitted behind the insulation layers; this consists of 4 double sockets, 1 external double socket and fluorescent lighting. We install the pack using qualified electricians who take all the wiring to a consumer unit ready for you to connect to your electricity supply. We can also supply your building with a heater.
Flooring options
Our standard and robust floorboards are set on closely spaced, tanalised floor joists. If you are storing particularly heavy items or machinery, we would recommend our heavy duty floor, or if you are planning on spending long periods of time in your building then we would advise on our underfloor insulation.
Workbench
Add your chosen size workbench to your building for your DIY or hobby needs. For a solid finish we use oak-faced plywood.

Make your building multi-functional by sectioning and separating the space.

Roof overhang
A roof overhang provides extra protection to the façade of the building, offering rain and shade coverage. A roof overhang can also enhance the appearance of your shed.
Shiplap We machine our shiplap into particularly thick boards, and because it's a slowly grown timber with an exceptionally close grain, the additional benefits of our shiplap are its strength and durability. Our joiners plane the shiplap, giving it a particularly smooth finish.
Guttering
To help keep your shed looking tidy and to catch any excess rainfall, we can fix guttering to your building. We offer guttering in either black or white.
Weatherboard Our weatherboard cladding is machined from the same high quality timber as our shiplap, but it has a sawn finish, which gives a more rustic look to your building.

Within our workshop we house our own joinery works. Skilled carpenters make the doors and windows for all the buildings we produce to ensure that the quality we demand is met.
Our years of experience have taught us that buying in windows and doors is not ideal as they never fit quite perfectly. Having total control over the quality and finish of our buildings is of prime importance to us.

Where We Get Our TimberWe partner with a timber mill in Northern Sweden, which is FSC® certified like ourselves, to ensure we receive a constant supply of high quality certified timber.
Raw TimberThe timber we use is Pinus Silvestris (Scots Pine), which has often been growing for more than 130 years at latitudes above 65 degrees north. Because it is slowly grown the timber is more dense, which ensures a high quality close grain that is less susceptible to dead knots.
Forest ManagementThe timber mill cuts down the right sized tree. The mill manages their forests in a sustainable way ensuring they replant.
InspectionAfter the tree has been cut, VMF (The Timber Measuring Association for the Northern Area of Sweden) carries out a delivery inspection and marks the timber with the supplier’s identification number. Experienced employees from VMF classify and sort the timber according to its size and quality, meaning that all of the cut timber can be traced back to the forest in which it was grown.
TransportThe logs are then transported by lorry to the mill. They only deal with timber grown within 150 km of the mill.
DebarkedThe logs are then de-barked; the bark is pulped and sent to a paper mill.

Sawn TimberThe log is then sawn into workable pieces: any off-cuts are used to fuel the kiln, so there is no waste.
DriedThe pieces are then kiln dried to achieve the required moisture content for the timber. It is important to get the correct moisture content for external, British conditions and also make sure that the timber can be used with our paint systems: too dry and the timber will swell and take on moisture, too wet and the timber will rot at an accelerated rate and will not marry well with the paint systems.
Hand checkedOnce the timber is dried correctly, there is another sorting process: firstly, each piece is machine checked and then hand checked for the correct grading of the timber. This process allows us to be consistently supplied with high quality timber.
PlanedEach piece of timber is then planed through a Molder machine for a smooth finish.
Finished TimberFinally, the timber is then stacked and ready for transportation by road - rail - ferry - road to our workshop. The timber is sent directly to us, so it is not sitting on
docks or waiting (and deteriorating) for transportation by other companies, again ensuring the very highest quality.
