Universities of the third age have been establishing in Poland since 1975 by universities, local government

units foundations and associations.

In the academic year 2012/2013 in classes and lectures organized by more than 400 universities in the country involving more than 74,000 women and

14,000 men.*

Maintaining independent living- forms of assistance in the living environment

In 2014 in the Voivodeship of Silesia were been working 48 daily nursing houses.

During that year in their classes were attended a total of 4,580 people.

People because of age or illness may use the care services organized in their place of

residence.

In 2014 in the Voivodeship of Silesia with the care services benefited 9.212 people,

including approx. 8.500 the elderly.

In 2014 the Voivodeship of Silesia had 42 environmental self-help houses for persons

with mental disorders.

In Chorzow set up the first branch in the region for a group of people with Alzheimer's disease.

In the Voivodeship of Silesia are working 102 nursing houses of the total number of seats

8.733.

For the elderly and chronic somatic diseases services are provided by 51 nursing houses -

that is half of all registered homes in the voivodeship. That houses have the total number

of seats 4.055.

The Voivodeship of Silesia has registered 61 providing full-time care facilities for

persons with disabilities, the chronically ill of the total number of seats 1.845. Three of them take only the elderly, and the other both elderly and people with

disabilities.

The multiannual program "Senior - WIGOR "

for the years 2015-2020

Program „Senior – Wigor”The Council of Ministers adopted the multiannual program "Senior - WIGOR " for the years 2015 – 2020 on 17th March 2015. That program assumes a founding the daily nursing houses called „Senior – Vigor” through financial support to

governments in implementing their own tasks.

The aim of the program is improving the quality of life of older people through enabling them to benefit from a wide range of care, educational, cultural and recreational.

On the implementation of the programme provided support to local governments in the total amount of 370 million zł

(30 million zł in 2015).
