And since they’ve started to play together, Riccardo Grosso (vocals and harmonica) and Francesco Greggio (guitars, foot-stomp and loop station) found time and en- ergy to produce their self-titled album with 10 tunes from their live repertoire re-visited for the album. Available for sale at the show or online at CDBaby, as the Indie world works, the CD itself sold 500 copies in few months (and in Italy ain’t a bad number, believe us!). With their repertoire of American Blues, Roots and Song writing extended to other blues influenced tunes (from Tom Waits to Buena Vista Social Club, with some tune by Johnny Cash or J.J. The Surfbirds

Rocking 180 gigs on 365 days, The Surfbirds are one of the most active duo in Italy. And since they’ve started to play together, Riccardo Grosso (vocals and harmonica) and Francesco Greggio (guitars, foot-stomp and loop station) found time and en-ergy to produce their self-titled album with 10 tunes from their live repertoire re-visited for the album.

With their repertoire of American Blues, Roots and Song writing extended to other blues influenced tunes (from Tom Waits to Buena Vista Social Club, with some tune by Johnny Cash or J.J. Cale) The Surfbirds had the chance to put their thumbprint on what they play. They don’t want to sound like the original ones, they better like to put their vision of what they playing using a loop station and different sounds and atmospheres like a Louisiana cooking recipe. Probably because of time spent by Riccardo in New Or-leans in 2010 when, living there, used to play with Johnny Sansone and the old band that got finally back together the King Brisket Boys, having the chance to share the stage an play with John Fhol (Dr.John & The Lower 911), RJ Mischo, Adam Gussow and Andy J. Forest to name few.Francesco had no difficult to share that view using to lead a band himself - Francesco Greggio & The Sucker Punch - where he played some blues mixed with rock, surf and fusion music. Not to mention his role as lead guitarist with Dr. Larry and the Zydeco Hogs - the name tells you enough.

This duo has a soulful sound, greasy and groovy. The wise use of the loop-station (allowing to open new ideas and live improvisation sometimes) is some-thing that is improved everyday heading to re-cord a new album with an innovative approach to original material The Surfbirds are working at.For further info:www.myspace.com/thesurfbirdswww.cdbaby.com/cd/thesurfbirdswww.riccardogrosso.comwww.francescogreggio.com

The Surfbirds

Featured on some of the finest Italian event like Festa D’Estate in Vascon where they play for its 25th year (musicians like Ian Paice, Robben Ford, Brian Auger played on that stage!) or in the wine and music event in Udine, Italy, called Friuli D.O.C (where people from all over the Europe come to taste the finest regional wines and food), and a lot of bars, clubs, workshops etc... The Surfbirds are now heading to cross the Italian border and play in venues in Austria like Hotel 12 (featured on National Geographic and other important and worldwide press) or the fa-mous Bluegarage.

The plan for 2013 is touring Europe and USA (Texas and Louisiana in April and May 2013).

To book The Surfbirds contact the e-mail ad-dresses at the bottom of the page.

The Surfbirds CD, now available only as MP3 at www.CDBaby.com, is a collection of tunes from this duo live repertoire re-arranged for the CD version. “The Surfbirds’ version of Baltimore Oriole is one the most emotional I’ve ever heard” - said the Italian journalist Sara De Vido and their way to explore another world of the famous “Man Of Constant Sorrow” worth more than a listen. You would find “Bad Things” by Jace Everett and two Tom Waits tunes (Choc-olate Jesus and Walk Away) but the plate ain’t full if you can’t get the real glue of this duo: the Blues music. Up The Line by Willie Dixon, and They’re Red Hot (tribute to Mr. Robert John-son) are there and played as honest as possible. A couple of songwriters’ homage with J.J Cale’s Call Me The Breeze and Pete Seeger’s My Okla-homa Home. Finally the punch you wouldn’t expect: Lookin’ For Trouble by Kim Wilson, sounding like a pissed off garage band.
