Franklin Nuernberger, Worshipful Master

March is finally here; can spring and warmweather be far behind? Don't forget the Easter EggHunt on Saturday, April 11th. We look forward toseeing many of you who have been missing fromour comradeship. Bring your children, grandchildren, neighbors and prospective members and theirchildren. This gives us a chance to show what wecan do.

In May, we have our Ladies of the Table. AsI learned from planning the George WashingtonDinner, it can be upon us tomorrow. It is not toosoon to submit candidates for Woman of the Year. Please send me an e-mail, call the lodge number orsend a name by "snail mail" to the Lodge. Yoursuggestions are always encouraged.

Monday nights are "practice night" at GeorgeWashington 1776. For the most part, we are newermembers or members trying new parts or offices. We would like to see more members join in for thelearning as well as the comradeship. "Candidates"

and prompters are always appreciated. Practiceis usually for an hour to an hour and a half. Newmembers and Past Masters are encouraged toattend. New members to learn, PM's to pass ontheir wisdom.

This year, I would like to continue theHavenwoods help project started last year. At thispoint, we have no dates, but soon as we set themup, they will be announced in Lodge, Mondaynights and other times as we get together, as wellas in the Surveyor.

Do you have a project you think we mightget involved in? Let us know. For example,Second Harvest can always use help. Interested?Let us know.

Last trestle board I indicated that this yearis the year of the Masonic Family. Remember, thefamily starts with us. As a Masonic Lodge, we arefamily. Let us meet, work and play as suchtogether.

HarmonyHarmonyHarmonyHarmonyHarmony is a much used word in our

society, but more importantly in our relationshipswith each other.

Let's look at the definition of the word, harmony. According to the Merriam-WebsterDictionary, harmony means:

1) musical agreement of sounds; 2) a pleasing arrangement of parts 3) accord as in internal calm oragreement.

They all give good meaning to the wordharmony, as it relates to Freemasonry. Under thefirst definition concerning music, in the openingand closing of our lodge, the spoken words, when on key, bring a certain sound likened tomusical agreement.

As to the second definition about an"arrangement of parts," all the brethren, althoughdifferent in many ways, nevertheless are stillbound together harmoniously in our lodge duties.

The third definition about agreementseems to best fit as to the most commonunderstanding of the word in Masonic terms.

Being in a Masonic lodge as brothers, gives usthe opportunity to speak our views without fear ofreprisal. We may not always agree on certainsubjects, but we still maintain our ties to oneanother.

From a personal standpoint, doing magicshows for so many different venues, harmony isvery important to me. I use planning, preparationand practice for all my shows, just as within ourlodge, we plan and prepare many different events. I practice magic to be the best magician I can be;as Masons, we practice degree work to becomeas proficient as we can be.

Within the lodge this means cooperation, working together as brothers in harmony, givingsupport wherever it's needed to make our lodgethe best it can be.

Harmony is the strength and foundation uponwhich all endeavors succeed, and I think we canall agree it is most important to us in our lives asMasons.

G W 1776 InstallationOur lodge was honored by the

attendance of Prince Hall brethren at our 2009

Installation of Officers, Saturday, January 10th.

For about five years, members of

GW1776 have been meeting regularly with

Prince Hall members for breakfast and

fellowship. They trade Masonic ideas and

information and plan for dual projects together.

They typically meet once a month at

the Family Table Restaurant on 6598 W Brown

Deer Rd, usually the 2nd Saturday of the month

at 8:00 AM.

The original purpose of meeting was to

use the common Masonic foundation to

facilitate better communications within the SE

WI community and better the Fraternity at

large through interaction.

Two New Membersat GW1776

Tuesday, January 20,

2009, when history saw the

inauguration of our nation’s first

African-American President, two

new Entered Apprentices were

initiated at our Lodge. Keith

Sargent and Joe Fahrenkopf

pledged themselves to the craft

and followed in the footsteps of

many of the world’s greatest

men, as they became the first in

2009 to join our blessed

fraternity at GW1776.

Brookfield, and April 24th at Ruby Tuesday’s.

Drinks at 6pm followed by dinner and lively

conversation.

All are welcome at Dinner Club including

ladies, friends and family. Please RSVP by

the Thursday before each Dinner Club

meeting. Dick Paradowski at 262-782-8835.

Geo Wash Stein ClubElectionsThe George Washington Stein Club held elections for

club officers at the last meeting on January 15th. Dave

Haase was elected Burger Meister; Dave Bowen, Brew

Meister; Brad Behlke, Toast Master General; and

Chuck Carroll, Town Crier.

Steins OrderedMembers placed orders for

genuine German Steins with

custom artwork. The

shipment is expected some

time in late April, early May.

What's Brewin'?Stein Club member Pete

Weingarten has brewed a

batch of beer based on George

Washington's original recipe.

Pete Boasts that his Fuzzy

Duck Brewery is the 4th

largest brewery in Glendale,

producing one gallon a year.

Starting with GW's hand-written recipe, Pete ran into

some problems due to antique terminology, but was

able to find clarification online. He has now made five

gallons of GW's "Small Beer," which is a beer with a

low-alcohol content, also known as “near beer.” Pete

has promised to bring samples to the Stein Club.

George Washington was well known for his

appreciation of a dark English beer known as Porter,

served it often when entertaining, and procured it in

large quantities.

Next Stein Club meetings: March 19th & April 16th. If

your birthday falls in that month you must bring treats!

was born.

Lodge Flower

Garden Needs You

WHITEFISH BAY – As Spring approaches and our

thoughts turn to green lawns and the cacophony of

color that only flower beds can produce, the Lodge

flower garden on the East berm is about to be

choked out by thistles.

There are many opinions as to how the

noxious and pernicious weed can be controlled, but

the fact remains that without volunteers who are

willing to put some time into it, the garden will

eventually be overrun.

Four years ago, we planted blue flowering

perennials which are becoming well established,

but it’s time to add to them and schedule regular

maintenance for the garden. Voice your concern at

the next Trustee Meeting, Monday, March 16.
