As Principal of Tanto International School, it is a privilege to welcome you to ourunique international school in Stockholm. I am extremely proud of all of children, staff and parents who are part of The Tanto International School family. We have a dedicated and skilled staff who ensure that we aim high in all we do. Our goal is to create passion for learning and excellence amongst all children.
Having worked in schools since 1996, I know first hand what a fantastic opportunity Tanto offers its young children and their families. High standards of education, respect and kindness are common place throughout the school. We all have a shared understanding of our school culture: Care, Co-operation and Courtesy (The Tanto 3 C’s).
We combine the traditional values of respect and good manners with contemporary best practice in teaching and technology. With these core values in place, we aim to send our students into society- happy, well-educated and with a real drive and ambition to be successful. The children at Tanto represent the best qualities that all young people have.
The Tanto International School is one of only a few schools in Stockholm with a license to provide an international education taught in English. It is a small, independent school with a maximum of 90 students and was established in 1983. The children at the The Tanto International School are aged between 6 and 13 and the school's nursery is called The English Nursery which educates the children up to the age of 6.
We are proud of our links with our UK partner school, Newlands Primary School in Hampshire, UK which has an International School Award and is a UNICEF Rights Respecting School. We are always looking to develop opportunities for staff and children to experience and learn from each other.
At the school, all staff strive to create a secure, caring and well organised atmosphere; giving children the best possible environment in which they can learn with confidence. Emphasis is placed on teaching our children to be polite and to have respect for each other and themselves. It is this relationship between our staff and children that allows the students to progress so well.
We value the whole child and recognise the need to give children experiences and not just an education in the classroom.
We are a small school and our size enables us to offer much more to each individual. As one of our child put it, “ A small school in a big world and a big world in a small school.”

• The Tanto International School was established in 1983 to provide a great international education in Stockholm.
• The school’s fundamental aim, since 1983, has been to offer the best educational environment by prioritizing care, co-operation and courtesy amongst all who are involved in the school.
• The school is committed to remaining small, personal and pro-active; we have a welcoming atmosphere where everyone can achieve.
• The school has a family feel. At Tanto, children and parents are seen, listened to and understood- something that can be very hard to replicate in a large international school.
• The school has a nursery (The English Nursery) which caters for children from 1-6 yrs. The Tanto International School accepts students from 6-12 yrs. old.
• The atmosphere and culture is unique and something all children, parents and staff are extremely proud of.

Our School
• Life at Tanto is calm and focussed whilst allowing room for creativity and fun.
• Children feel part of something unique and special- valuing the school, representing it in different situations outside of school and wearing the uniform with real pride.
• Children and staff move around school with respect for each other and their environment. The relationships between the teachers and students are built on care, co-operation and courtesy.
• Older children care for younger children: house teams, captains and student council members support this leadership ethos.

School Life
• We ensure that the whole school is an excellent learning environment which inspires, excites and celebrates effort and achievement.
• We focus on high standards of English and place emphasis on speaking and listening, reading, writing, spelling and grammar every day.
• We have high quality, interactive and focussed mathematics curriculum. Mathematic lessons are taught every day.
• Our broad and balanced curriculum gives the children opportunities to make links, to make choices and take responsibility for their learning.
• We ensure every learner experiences success. We are inclusive environment in which the learning needs of the individual are recognised.

Teaching and Learning

• The curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum and therefore places a large emphasis on high quality teaching of English skills.
• Emphasis is also placed on mathematics through daily, hour-long lessons and weekly mathematics homework for all ages.
• Other curriculum areas include: Science, Geography, History, Music, Art and Design, Physical Education and Swedish.
• Computer Technology is taught throughout the curriculum to ensure that children are flexible and creative in their application of these tools.
• Sessions on UNICEF- Convention of Children’s Rights, current affairs and Student Council take place regularly; ensuring each student is developing life skills alongside high academic achievement.

• At the Tanto International School, we understand that children must develop as many different skills and interests as they can whilst they are growing.
• Classes take regular trips to museums, galleries and theatres around Stockholm in order to develop the cultural understanding.
• Students have opportunities to take part in cross- country skiing, downhill skiing and even have a chance to visit London in Year 6/7.
• The school develops drama and performing through its annual school production held at a local theatre.
• The school has a successful Violin Club, Dance Club and Swedish Reading Club after school.
• Alongside these after school activities, the school has its own after school club called TASC (Tanto After School Club) which offers children opportunity to develop arts and craft skills, baking, using the iPads, socialising, table tennis, table football and pool (snooker).

Outside the Classroom
• The Tanto International School has a pro-active Student Council, consisting of 2 children from Year 2/3 and 4/5 and 3 children from Year 6/7.
• Elections for Student President are held each year; candidates prepare speeches and the whole school votes.
• The Student Council meets every Friday morning and the President meets with the Principal every fortnight.
• Class Council meetings are held each week and students can use this forum to have influence things or use the class suggestion box to write down ideas for the future of the school.
• The Student Council takes pride in fundraising, supporting younger children and developing new ideas for the school.

Student Council
• At The Tanto International School, we take great pride in our family feel; knowing and caring about each person is extremely important to us.
• There are many opportunities throughout the year for children to work in different age groups across the school and develop leadership, co-operation and care, such as: house days, Stockholm scavenger hunt, ski trips, talent show, school sleepover, school play, England trip and sports day.
• The friendly and welcoming atmosphere is apparent as soon as you arrive. All staff work extremely hard to show the children the benefit of teamwork.
• Our school motto of The Tanto 3 C’s Care, Co-operation and Courtesy helps us all focus on the important things in life.
• We love our school and we’d love you to come and join us. Together we can achieve anything!
