The Temple Aero Modeler 3

President’s Report by Larry Macie

Hello everyone, here we are early in

the season and the rain just keeps

coming. Let’s try and enjoy it while we

can, for it will get hot soon enough, and

we will be begging for cooler weather

and rain. Thanks to Brady and Ed, the

field continues to look great. I sure

appreciate the time everyone is putting

into maintaining the field.

The airshow went very well this

year, which could not have happened

without all the volunteers that participated. The Temple Aero

Modelers gave some great RC flying demonstrations. The

Friday night show has always been enjoyed by the spectators,

and sparks a lot of questions and interest about our hobby.

Both midday shows on Saturday and Sunday also went well;

Ron Norman, Brady Sherwood and Steve Delgado did a

fantastic job of flying on those days. This year we had smoke

demonstrations during both days, which really gives a different

perspective when you see it coming from an RC plane.

I also want to thank all the folks that donated gifts and

prizes. Thanks to Max Blose for helping the club out with the

quadcopter raffle, and Doug Staines, Mark Cullison, and Don

Mondrik for their generous contributions. Congratulations to

the winner of the quadcopter, Abigail Pelley (from Temple). I

think this was the first time the winner was actually present and

we were able to present the prize to the winner on the spot.

Congratulations also to the winners of the volunteer prizes.

Hope to see you soon at the field. So in closing, “Dust off

some of those planes and get them airworthy”.

Safety Officer’s Report By Doug Staines

This time of year most of us are getting

our planes ready for the flying season.

There will be several articles written in this

regard. Not only do we have to get our

planes ready and take care of our planes,

but we need to take care of ourselves.

With the change of the season comes the

change in weather from comfortable

weather to darn right hot and miserable. This summer when

you are out flying be sure to take care of yourself. Drink

plenty of water and wear sun screen.

As we grow older, we become less heat tolerant, and to add

to this problem, many of us are on some sort of medication or

another. A lot of these medications are for the control of high

blood pressure. For some of us it means shedding of excess

fluid to bring blood pressure down. So what a dilemma, we

take medications to eliminate fluid, which we probably need to

prevent dehydration from exposure to the heat when our bodies

naturally get rid of fluid by sweating.

So be sure to drink water, and when you’re not flying, sit in

the shade and have a great day watching others fly.

See you at the field!

Central Texas Air Show By Doug Staines

Well the 2015 Central Texas Airshow is in the History

books and with it our very successfully participation. The

weather was great on all three days and our Flight

Demonstrations were flawless, except for some minor landing

mishaps at the conclusion of our Friday Night Show.

Big thanks to my co-coordinators Larry Macie and Mark

Cullison, who collectively with myself put it all together. Many

thanks to all those members that helped out, volunteered their

time and efforts to fly their planes in our RC Flight

Demonstrations or staffed our information tents and put our

area together and took it down.

As a token of appreciation for those members that helped

out, we held a Volunteer Appreciation Gift Raffle, for 3 great

gifts. Steve Meyer won a Quadcopter courtesy of Larry Macie,

Mark Cullison and myself. Brady Sherwood won a Micro

Quadcopter courtesy of a generous donation by Max Blose and

the Waco Hobby Stop and Pete Cornett won a free Oil Change

courtesy of BW Ponder and Ponders Auto & Fleet Servicing.

The Quadcopter Club Raffle we held was won by Abigail

Pelley of Temple. Apparently her father, brother and herself

had just purchased tickets only a few hours before the drawing

and for a first, was actually present when we drew her name.

I’d like to thank Max Blose and the Waco Hobby Stop for

providing a discount on the LaTrax Alias raffle quadcopter,

and to Don Mondrik for donating $100 toward the camera for

the Alias plus an additional donation to the club.

Again, many thanks to all those members that helped!

Doug Staines

Air Show Coordinator/CD.

Airshow.

Good News Report

Kelsey Cullison, the daughter of our Club’s VP/Secretary

Mark Cullison and his wife Patty was married to Justin Hilliard

on April 11th

. Congratulations to the new bride and groom, and

to the proud parents!

Denton Sherwood is helping his father (Brady) get prepared

for a giant scale flight demonstration at the Airshow.

David Macek is describing the merits of the raffle

quadcopter to an interested young spectator at the Airshow.

Combat Corner by Larry Macie

The weather just did not cooperate with us this time around.

With regret, I had to make the call to cancel this month’s

session. I would have hated to have our fellow combaters

show up and not be able to fly. Hope to see you at the next

scheduled combat (on June 6th

). All spectators are welcome,

and if you’re a pilot please join us, we could always use more

pilots (and helpers!).
