A t the PressFriends

many students from dif-

as the Boys and Girls

tour around the Univer-

First, the tour guides
gave the students a bag
along with a name tag.
Then, all of the students
were put into pairs. The
tour guides showed many
statues such as Tommy

T he Boys and Girls
Club is fun because
you get to go on the com-
puters, go to the gym, and
play in the games room.
In the games room there
are snacks, pool, ping
pong, bumper pool, and
some games they say you
have to do. Like penny in
a cup—it’s fun.
In the gym, you get to
sign up for basketball,
baseball, or play handball.
There’s also an art
room. There’s paper,
paint, and brushes, and
you can draw whatever
you want.
In the computer lab,
you can go on games
websites— but not bad
games, nasty games, or
inappropriate games.
There’s a lot of thing
to do in the elementary
side for the Boys and
Girls Club.

A t school, there are a
lot of rules that
need to be followed.
Kids have to follow these
rules, because they are
important, and if one
does not follow them,
one can get into trouble.
Not only can one use
these rules at school, but
one can also use them at
home and at the Boys
and Girls Club.
Some rules to keep in
mind are:
Don’t push
Don’t shove
Don’t scream
Don’t be mean
Don’t start fights
Good Behavior
Here are some tips to help
make school a nicer place
for everyone:
Tell a teacher or staff
member about bad be-
havior
If someone is being
mean or being bullied,
tell a teacher or staff
member
Be fair by following the
rules of games
Don’t brag to friends in
a mean way
Share with your class-
mates
Do not bring anything
dangerous or bad to
school
Be kind and respectful
to everyone
Treat others the way
one would want to be
treated
Try one’s best
Follow these rules eve-
rywhere!
Don’t make fun of oth-
ers
If one follows these
rules, everyone will be
more respectful to one
another. By using these
rules everywhere, it will
make everyone a better
person!

Duran from the aquarium.
Then we interviewed
Krystin Schilling who
competes in pageants.
Afterwards, I interviewed
the famous USC football
player, Marcus Martin.
First is Connie Duran.
She is a part time em-
ployee at the Cabrillo
Marine Aquarium. She
loves every animal in the
touch tank. She is really
good at explaining differ-
ent kinds of animals to
kids. There are a lot of
different kinds of animals
all over the aquarium. I
learned that whales have
lice and it is good for
them. It is way bigger
than human lice, because
we are small compared to
the whales and they have
huge hair and we don’t.
You can volunteer
when you are in Junior
High.
Then is Krystin
Schilling. She competes
in pageants all around the
United States. She is a
really talented singer. She
was 14 when she started
to compete. She has done
many interviews at pag-
eants. She has also had to
sing and wear a formal
dress. I really enjoyed
interviewing everybody!

W hen I spent the
day at USC I liked
seeing the coffee house
Ground Zero, the beauti-
ful fountains, and I also
liked our tour guides,
Josslyn and Jessica,.
They were really pretty
and nice.
One of my favorites
was the track field be-
cause I love to run. We
even got to walk around a
study hall that offered
tutoring. We then got to
see Tommy Trojan and
Traveler the horse.
We also saw the Tro-
jan sword and it was
really funny when people
tried to pull it out.
It was nice to tour the
beautiful campus and
dorms, but my favorite
place I saw was Star-
bucks, I really want to go
here. I am really looking
forward to going to USC
when it is time for me to
go to college. The people
here seem really nice and
smart. My brother was
right, USC is the college

I am so glad that I

college but I still want

I really liked the tour of
the USC campus. My
favorite part is when I
met a football player from
the USC Trojans, Marcus
Martin. I got so excited. \
During the tour my
friend and I were walking
with Mr. Max when a
squirrel almost hit my
friend! I was so hungry
that my stomach was
moaning and they finally
gave us food and water
during snack.
When we went to a
water fountain I wanted
to jump in like all the
USC seniors. My friend
Max thinks he is Tommy
Trojan. So we almost
went to the practice field
but instead we got to see
all the dorms.
I had a great time on
the tour!.

Marcus Martin. Marcus

wears a shoe size of 14.
Marcus Martin’s favorite
thing to do besides foot-

how to play football. He
looks strong. His number
is 66. He lives two blocks

B GC Kids News went
on a tour of USC
when we attended the
PressFriends workshop.
On the tour, we got to
see 22 libraries. Now
that’s a lot of books.
There were different lev-
els, and the elevator in
Doheny library was old
and wood-paneled, and
felt a little creepy.
We also saw a lot of
statues. There was a
horse, Traveler, that is
USC’s mascot. There
was also one of Tommy
Trojan. Tommy rides the
horse Traveler onto the
football field of all USC
home football games.
There also is a statue of a
dog named Tirebiter.
Tirebiter used to be the
USC mascot. He was a
stray dog that students
found and took care of.
He attended all of the
football games. He was
named Tirebiter, because
he used to chase cars and
bite at their tires.
When we were on the
tour, I heard screaming.
It was because a squirrel
ran in front of a girl. And
that’s what happened on
our tour of USC.

A newspaper event is
an activity you want
to participate in. Many
people are writing news-
papers about their schools
and USC. This is helpful
because you could get
better at it and succeed in
life.
The newspaper event
is an event where people
get to write newspapers.
The event took place on
February 9, 2013 on Sat-
urday morning until the
afternoon. Also there was
a mentor that help you
write more details on
your newspaper.
At the event students
learned about writing
newspapers while having
fun. People ate snacks
like capri suns, water, and
granola bars. Then at 12
o’clock people ate ham-
burgers.
The event was possi-
ble because of the men-
tors and teachers. That’s
why it’s fun writing for
the newspaper.

U niversity of South-

great school. The students
of Boys and Girls Club
toured the campus.
First, they went to a
library. It was white and
the largest library on cam-

saw Tommy the Trojan,
the USC mascot.
The students saw so
many fountains on the
tour, but thought it was
very disappointing that
they were not allowed to
touch the fountains.
Then they saw this
coffeehouse called
Ground Zero. The tour
guide told the students it
is one of the most popular
places on campus.
Next, they went to the
practice field. When the
tour guide said they were
going to the field, all the
students thought he meant
the Coliseum. There was
also a building with many
international flags hang-
ing, and near this building
was a fountain with a
statue.
The statue was of a
lady holding a plaque that
said church. After the
tour, the students ate
snack. The students had a
great time visiting USC.
They can not wait to go
here.

One of the samples
they brought was part of a
whale. Whales are mam-
mals. They have hair on
their backs which is how
the lice stick on.
Also, whales have
teeth. The tooth of a whale
looks very soft at first but,
they are tough like broom
bristles. Whales can hurt
others if they bite them but
they will not usually.
Whales are very kind
and loving mammals. They
have more than 1000 teeth
in their mouth. Each of
their teeth is a foot long.
The longest mammal in
the world is the blue whale.
They are huge! Blue
whales are usually about
the size of three school
buses put together.
Whales are interesting
animals.

Cyberbullying
You should also know
that cyberbullying is bad
too. Cyberbullying is
bullying on the internet
through words.
Have you or a friend
ever been bullied? If that
ever happen then here
some tips you should
know:
B ig kids should not
bully people because
they’ll ruin their lives!
“Ruin” means hurting
other people’s feelings,
and it is really bad because
it makes them want to cry
and be sad. It also hurts
their family or friends,
who don’t want to see
people they know getting
hurt.
If you aren’t a bully,
you can learn how to pre-
vent it. If you or a class-
mate are being bullied:
Tell the teacher
Tell the bully that you
don’t like it
Tell them to stop
Tell their parents
Tell the principal if the
bully continues
Never talk back
Leave the chat room

bunny, and more! In the
game, you are supposed
to race other animals.
You could either play
against the computer
(CPU) or play over the
internet. There are also
attacks you can use some
of them are a razor, thun-
der, or a magnet to slow
down other players.
The goal to the game
is to be 1st place. To win
the race you are sup-
posed run pass everyone
in front of you. But,
there are also tricky ob-
stacles like cliffs,
ditches, and ledges. To
climb up a cliff, you
keep on jumping up it.
The race takes about five
minutes, but you can play
it over and over.
The best part of the
game is when you use the
powers, like force field.
The worst part of the
game is when you get hit
by the other players, and it
slows you down. A rating
for this game is 5 stars
because it is addicting and
super fun.

A fun Nintendo 3DS
game is Kid Icarus Uprising. In the game, the
gamer has to defeat the
gorgon, Medusa. To get
there the gamer has to
beat all 25 chapters
(levels). The character the
gamer plays as is Pit (Kid
Icarus). The weapons the
gamer has are a sword,
claws, orbitars, clubs,
bows, etc. The control to
attack is L (or A, B, Y).
To aim, the gamer
moves the stylus around.
Your special attacks are
sky jumping, land mines,
etc. The gamer can al-
ways refill your special
attacks once you waste
them.
In most of the levels
there are bosses. The
gamer can play multi-
player by connecting via
Wi-Fi with up to six peo-
ple. In multiplayer there
are two modes, Light vs.
Dark and “Free-for-All”.
Most people prefer Light
vs. Dark because the gamer
can split into teams and
become the team captain
whenever the gamer is
not expecting it.
This game is rated E
10+ which means every-
one over 10. The gamer
can also play with friends
(which they’ll explain
once you get a 3DS). This
game is mostly based on
Greek mythology.
To sprint the gamer
can lightly flick and hold
the joystick, but it only
last for a certain time.
Then the gamer will turn
red and start panting.
Once the gamer beats the
game, the gamer can go
to the settings and turn
the dialogue off or on.

M inecraft is one of
my favorite games.
You can play it on the
computer, iPod, IPhone,
etc. In this game you can
build things like houses
and buildings.
There are survival
mode, creative mode and
hardcore mode. In crea-
tive mode you can fly and
have unlimited resources.
In survival mode you
have to try to survive
from creepers, ender men,
spiders, Herobrine, zom-
bies, skeletons, mutant
creepers, etc. You can
use tools like swords,
bricks, your hand, and
torches to fight off the
bad guys. In hardcore
mode it is the same as
survival but you only
have one life.
To survive you cannot
lose your health (life). If
you die in this game, you
will resurrect in a differ-
ent place. The best part
of this game is that you
can build and destroy
things and you have to
survive. The worst part of
this game is you can die
easily.
There is no point sys-
tem; you can just play all
day. Another thing to
remember is the only
character that you can
play is named, Steve, but,
you can customize him by
updating the game (but
you have to pay for it).
This game is good for
kids in elementary school
and middle school.

N ation Ball is a really
fun game to play!
First, a ball and a court are
needed to play. To play this
game, friends are needed to
be opponents on different
teams, and once that is done,
the game is ready to start.
While on court, players
need to be aware of their
surroundings. Players need
to make sure they do not get
hit by the ball, or else they
are eliminated. People on
the opposite side, will try to
get their opponents hit.
Within one shot, somebody
is out for the next game. So
players must be careful.
You need at least 15 to 25
people per team. The goal is
to get everybody out except
for your teammates. Players
might get some of your
friends. And some rubber
balls. No hard balls, no ten-
nis balls, no soft balls of any
kind. Players might want to
stay in the back because
players can get more balls!
This is a really fun game
once you get used to it!
Players need a ball full of
air— not too much air and
not too little. Players need
red school balls. Try to
dodge the ball and not get
hit. I would stay in the back
because you don’t get hit.
That’s the best part, yeah.

W hat makes Mario
Kart a fun game
because people can
switch cars, characters
and go different places in
the game, such as Peach
Kingdom and Mario
World.
This game is played
with a remote and some-
body’s body in an Xbox
360 Kinect. PS3, Wii, DS,
computer, or Xbox.
People enjoy this
game, because it is amaz-
ing that the characters can
drift. When the car turns-
sideways and slides on
the ground, that is called
drifting.
Mario Kart was made
in 1992. Losing is not
amazing, because the
gamer loses the whole
game and must start over.
When the gamer wins, the
gamer goes to the next
level, and the gamer can
win a trophy and gold
medal.
seven libraries in USC.
There are many restau-
rants and fast food places
to eat at. Many of the
college students on cam-
pus were walking with
their pets. The students
also saw hotels and foun-
tains that looked very
cool. There were many
practice fields and one
big football stadium.
Then, the students had a
granola bar with water for
snack. Some of the stu-
dents brought their own
snack. Then the staff gave
the students stickers to
decorate their writing
folders. After, the stu-
dents played a game
where they had to find the
most words to describe
the exit sign. The Boys
and Girls Club lost to
another team by two
words. The tour of USC
today was terrific!
