The Three Fates
Anthony TriplinMr. RibardoMythology
The Moerae, or the Fates, were the Natural Law of Greek Mythology.
Controlled the “Thread of Life” of every mortal from birth to death.
Believed to be Daemons, a supernatural mix of god and mortal.
The triplet daughters of Zeus and Themis, the Titaness of divine order, social order, and law.
Have the job of keeping order to the universe, and set a standard to which even the gods have to obey, and cannot reverse or interfere.
Clotho
Greek for “Spinner”. The fate responsible for “spinning the
thread of human life”. Decided who, when, and where a person
was born. Decided when gods or mortals were to be
saved or put to death. Clotho’s thread represented human life,
and her decisions created the fate of all men in society.
Greek for “disposer of lots”. The second Fate, responsible for determining
the Destiny of a god or mortal.Interpreted how long a person or being could
live by measuring their thread of life on Clotho’s spindle.
After measuring the thread of life, she was to decide the person/beings fate three days before its birth.
Also assigns lots to the souls who are choosing their newly reincarnated life. (Republic of Plato)
Greek name means “inflexible”, the oldest of the three fates.
Chose how every person or being died. Cut the “thread of life” with her symbolic
shears to symbolize the end of their life. Considered the angel of death of Greek
Mythology, if she was seen cutting a string, it was meant to show that either you or someone important in your life was going to die .
