Another student, Grant Rice (Armand Jones) is frustrated at losing an arcade game and demands a refund from the owner. When he storms out, Eva's boyfriend attempts a drive-by shooting, wanting to kill Grant but misses, accidentally killing Sindy's boyfriend. As Eva is a witness, she must testify at court; she intends to protect her own kind in her testimony.

EDUCATION At school, Gruwell intercepts a racist drawing of one of her students and uses it to teach them about the Holocaust. She gradually begins to earn their trust and buys them composition books to record their diaries, in which they talk about their experiences of being abused, seeing their friends die, and being evicted. Determined to reform her students, she takes two part-time jobs to pay for more books and spends more time at school, to the disappointment of her husband (Patrick Dempsey). Her students start to behave with respect and learn more. A transformation is especially visible in one of her students, Marcus (Jason Finn). She invites several Holocaust survivors to talk with her class about their experiences and takes them on a field trip to the Museum of Tolerance. Meanwhile, her

Room 203 was a ghetto within a school, a place with gangs, guns and nonexistent expectations. Room 203 became the site of an academic miracle, a place where the wider world was suddenly real and relevant to the students, where dazzling success was the norm and where the students were motivated to give back to society. This is a story about one maverick teacher and a group of teenagers who overcame the odds. Our film is prompted by asking: "Why does the world's richest eco ettle for a poor education system?" And, more importantly, "How can we change that?" This film points to one classroom where answers were found.

SUMMARY OF FREEDOM WRITERS The storyline of the movie takes place between 1992-1995, beginning with scenes from the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. Hilary Swank plays the role of Erin Gruwell, a new, excited schoolteacher who leaves the safety of her hometown, Newport Beach, to teach at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, a formerly high achieving school which has recently had an integration program put in place. Her enthusiasm is quickly challenged when she realizes that her class are all "at-risk" students, also known as "unteachables", and not the eager students she was expecting. The students segregate themselves into racial groups in the classroom, fights break out, and eventually most of the students stop turning up to class. Not only does Gruwell meet opposition from her students, but she also has a hard time with her department head, who refuses to let her teach her students with books incase they get damaged and lost, and instead tells her to focus on teaching them discipline and obedience.

CHOICES One night, two students, Eva (April Lee Hernández), a Hispanic girl and narrator for much of the film, and a Cambodian refugee, Sindy (Jaclyn Ngan), find themselves in the same convenience store.

unorthodox teaching methods are scorned by her colleagues and department chair Margaret Campbell (Imelda Staunton). The next year comes, and Gruwell teaches her class again for sophomore (second) year.

RESPECT In class, when reading ''The Diary of Anne Frank'', they invite Miep Gies (Pat Carroll), the woman who sheltered Anne Frank from the German soldiers to talk to them. After they raise the money to bring her over, she tells them her experiences hiding Anne Frank. When Marcus tells her that she is his hero, she denies it, claiming she was merely doing the right thing. Her denial causes Eva to rethink lying during her testimony. When she testifies, she finally breaks down and tells the truth, much to some of her family members' dismay. Meanwhile, Gruwell asks her students to write their diaries in book form. She compiles the entries and names it ''The Freedom Writers Diary''.

AT THE END… Her husband divorces her and Margaret tells her she cannot teach her kids for their junior year. She fights this decision, eventually convincing the superintendent to allow her to teach her kids' junior and senior year. The film ends with a note that Gruwell successfully brought many of her students to graduation and college.

COMMENT OF THE FILM MALOU: What I think about freedom writers. To me, I think it’s a very interesting movie! Because as I watched the following movie, the things they were happened in the movie, these are things that goes on in today’s world such as having freedom, the diversity of people and not being understood. It’s just crazy! As I watched the movie I was very emotional. It put a bug in my ear and I think it’s a life learning lesson that could teach many (young) people today. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from just anybody can make it! And even if you don’t have anybody to depend on you still have yourself.. And I think that only you know what’s the best for yourself. So I can recommend you to see this movie and you can judge by yourself! Love, Malou MAUD: I think it’s a very good story. It can make people believe in themselves. And that’s the most important thing of life. I watched the movie with much interesting, because they act very good and the script was sometimes really great! But sometimes the movie was a bit sweet, too sweet. That I thought: this only happens in movies. But everyone should see this film! You will see that writing is a very important thing for everyone, it can help you when you’re down, or help someone else!

2 much to handle by trying to cope, 15, female

April 8, 2010

Dear Diary,

Why is it that so many things pop in your life at the same time? Why it is all the things hit you when you know you can’t handle trying to solve them all? Sometimes when I have a billion and one thing to deal with I get so mad and I just say freak it all to hell. I’m only one person how can you expect me to handle all the home drama, love drama and school drama it’s too much I don’t think I can do it all…

My comment: This diary is one of my favorites because I really can empathy with the writer! The feeling that the writer has is some feeling I also sometimes have. And that’s not an easy and fine feeling…

Online diaries are hot! That’s why we make an article about it. What’s the definition of an online diary? An online diary is a personal diary or journal that is published on the World Wide Web on a personal website or a diary-hosting website. The history of diaries: Online diaries began in 1994. As a community formed, these publications came to be almost exclusively known as 'online journals'. Today they are almost exclusively called 'blog’s', though some differentiate by calling them 'personal blogs'. The running updates of online diarists combined with links inspired the term 'web log' which was eventually contracted to form the word blog. So read the following diaries and enter your own comment…

Truth by Britt, 15, female

April 8, 2010

Dear Diary,

I dream about him. He's here, but he's not. He's so different, but the same. He's my friend, but my enemy. He's someone I can't lie to, He's someone I can trust, He's good, but bad. He can pick my side, but he can pick yours. He knows everything, but also I doesn't. He'll understand me, but not always. He's the truth.

My comment: I love this diary! Probably because of the love that’s put in it! When I read this diary poem it makes me feel peaceful. I think that there is for anyone on earth someone special! And that means you don’t have to feel lonely so that’s what I like about this story!

villagers alive on land that has failed to yield sustainable crops for generations. And, in a moving sequence featuring the town's young people, Jolie discovers how free school lunches are giving children a reason to come to class and learn - and that one computer is connecting this tiny village to the rest of the world.

The images and stories that often emanate from Africa are bleak. But, The Diary of Angelina Jolie and Dr. Jeffrey Sachs in Africa offers actual solutions to famine, plague, and conflict. Thanks to the vision of Dr. Sachs and the humanitarian concerns of Jolie - Sauri has a message for the rest of the world - it is alive and fighting back.

For the first time in history, there is a feasible plan to end extreme poverty in our lifetime, and you can help make it happen:

Learn The Goal: "We will spare no effort to free our fellow men, women and children from the abject and dehumanizing conditions of extreme poverty, to which more than a billion of them are currently subjected."

In September 2000, leaders from nearly 200 countries made this special declaration at the United Nations. These world leaders agreed upon a set of eight measurable goals - the Millennium Development Goals - to reduce extreme poverty, disease and hunger by 2015.

Get Educated - Learn The Facts: If the Millennium Development Goals are achieved by 2015, 30 million children will be saved and 500 million people

TRIP Extreme poverty means walking long distances barefoot to collect safe drinking water. It's a hospital overflowing with patients dying from diseases that are treatable and preventable. More than 1 billion people face extreme poverty living on less than one dollar a day, and more than 22,000 people die every day from extreme poverty and preventable diseases - needlessly.

The facts are staggering - but there is hope. There is a now feasible plan to end extreme poverty in our lifetime, and Sauri, a cluster of villages in Western Kenya, helps to show the world how we can make that happen.

In this special think MTV episode of Diary, actress and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie journeys to Kenya with the world's leading expert on poverty, Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, the Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University and Special Advisor to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on the Millennium Development Goals. On their journey, they witness how the challenges of hunger, disease and isolation in Africa are being overcome in this small village beset by hunger, AIDS, and malaria.

Spending two long days in Sauri, Sachs exposes Jolie to every corner of village life to reveal his vision for ending extreme poverty by 2015. In a small hut, he demonstrates how a simple $10.00 bed net keeps families safe from Malaria, a disease that kills over three million people every year. In an open field, Jolie learns how basic instruction in proper farming techniques and fertilizer use can produce enough food to keep

WHY DO YOU THINK ANGELINA JOLIE HAS MADE THIS DIARY? MALOU: Why do you think Angelina Jolie has made this diary? I think that Angelina Jolie has made this diary because she wants to let us (the world) see how the life in Africa is. It’s very hard and there is a lot of poverty. Angelina Jolie also wants to fight against the poverty and she and Dr. Jeffrew Sachs are saying that that could be resolved in twenty years!

We can all help and change it so start thinking!

Love, Malou

WHY DO YOU THINK ANGELINA JOLIE HAS MADE THIS DIARY?

MAUD: I think Angelina Jolie has made this Diary because she wants the world to see that there’s much poverty in Africa, and we can mean so much for them with just a little bit help!

But I also think that she wants a bit attention for herself, not only for the people there. She wants people to say: oh she’s such a good person. But it’s good that she does it, many people are going to pay attention to it.

Greetzz, Maud

Angelina Jolie is just back from her trip to Kenya. She went there with Dr. Jeffery Sachs. We asked her why she went to Kenya and what she did there.

Why did you go to Kenya? “Because poverty is a big problem there. I want to change that, I want the world to see that they can change it! They can’t imagine how fast. We’re all saying things like “it’s hard to see and to hear”, but we’re doing nothing to it.”

What have you done in Kenya? “Jeffery took me to very much places and I spoke to the people there. I’ve seen their ambiance and how they live with it. It was a great experience.”

What was the best experience you had there? “There wasn’t just only one experience what was the best, it was the trip generally. It was amazing and I really hope that people see that just a little help can make a whole difference to them!”

Alright, thank you so much for this interview! We hope that your trip will reach your goal. You did a great job. “Thank you, Goodbye!’’

This was the interview with Angelina Jolie, what do you think about her trip and what she did? You can vote! - It’s good that someone cares about poverty, and it’s good that Angelina did it because she is a superstar! - It’s good that someone cares, but why Angelina?! She only wants attention! - So many people are already doing something with it, she’s acting like she cares!

Trapped by Britt, 15, female April 8, 2010 Dear Diary, Sometimes I feel lost. Trapped in the wrong time, in the wrong body. Trapped in a world without respect for nature, without respect for humanlifes. Trapped in the wrong decade, the wrong century. Trapped without someone who knows what I mean. Trapped without a soulmate, a close friend. Trapped in a world where people are rude. Trapped in the wrong time, in the wrong body. If I feel trapped, I wonder: Who am I? Hello Britt, You’re not a wrong person. It’s good that you’re writing about things that make you feel bad or put you in a bad mood. But you have a whole life waiting to discover yourself out! Don’t panic or something, just be yourself! Everybody can have friends and everybody can look good. It’s a nice poem, I have to say that too. Good luck!
