Today is a welcome distraction from the league games that have been coming thick and fast and is also a great opportunity for both sides to put some much-needed funds into the coffers during these tough financial times. We had our best-ever run in the competition last term and hopefully we can repeat that feat again this time out. Ramsgate will be sniffing a cup upset though and have nothing to lose, making them an extremely tough opponent for us today.

If we repeat our home league form then we should start as favourites. We’ve had a great start to the season at home and whilst performances haven’t always been the prettiest we have shown a strong defensive stability and an effective way of playing that has seen us beat Margate and Kingstonian here since I last wrote these notes. The Kingstonian performance in particular was very impressive against very decent opposition and should serve as the benchmark for our displays moving forward.

Unfortunately, our away form hasn’t been near the same levels and, once again, we were beaten on the road at Carshalton last weekend.

It’s hard to pinpoint the exact reasons behind such contrasting fortunes away from home but it something we need to address as soon as possible. We’ve no divine right to be winning games away, and we’ve faced some tough opposition, but our away performances do need to be much more competitive and give our fantastic away following

something to cheer about on their travels.

Those of you at the Margate game will have seen our recent floodlight upgrade in operation and hopefully you were pleased with the results; I have certainly had lots of positive comments. There are still some adjustments to be made to the alignment of the bulbs and this work with be taking place over the coming weeks.

At our board meeting last week, we reviewed our Covid precautions and, in particular, the capacity we will allow at home games given that we have had sell-outs for three of the four home games to date. I’m pleased to say that the directors voted to increase our overall capacity to 450 for our game today as well as for the league games against Brightlingsea and Cray Wanderers in the week ahead.

We’ve been encouraged by the interest shown by those coming to matches, both from existing supporters and also by other football fans who perhaps are not currently allowed to watch their favourite team on matchdays. We need to balance the opportunity to grow our supporter base with the need to keep everyone as safe as possible and will, therefore, continue to review capacity arrangements on a regular basis. Please do continue to follow the Covid measures we have in place, listen to the advice from our fantastic stewards and maintain your social distancing at all times.

Enjoy the game.Paul ReedChairman

We continue to do far better at home than away from it, and there is no straightforward answer as to why that should be. Against Margate, although it wasn’t the best of spectacles, we kept at it and were rewarded for our patience with Josh Urquhart’s goal. As was the case against Kingstonian, we dug in, matched the work rate of our opponents and the determination paid off. Junior Mubiayi did well in his first start of the season, and the clean sheet was very welcome as well.

Then at Carshalton we suffered extreme disappointment - against a very good side of course – and, although we were relatively content with the 0-0 scoreline at half-time, in the second half we just didn’t work hard enough or create anywhere near enough. The goals were avoidable as well. Just not good enough. There’s nothing that can be reported here other than to say that we are all continuing to work hard, especially on defensive organisation, on the training pitch and we need to eliminate the mistakes we have been making.

The management team have been working on changing formations, changing tactics, changing personnel and, as always, looking to improve the squad. Our five at the back (or three central defender with two wing backs whichever way you look at it) worked reasonably well at Carshalton but only up to a point.

It is up to the management team to come up with the most effective solutions to match our form away from the QEII with that we have been displaying at home and get some genuine consistency going.

Having said that, having not drawn any games yet, if we can chalk up a few more wins we’ll all feel better about things. There have been some very strange results this season, with a relentless Tuesday/Saturday routine taking its toll, and

anyone putting a run of five-six wins together will shoot up the table.

It will be refreshing this afternoon to get away from league pressure but, needless to say, it won’t be easy today against a side who the management team watched midweek and know what they are all about.

I’d like to finish by wishing Steve Wales all the best for the future and to welcome Jon Meakes to the management team.

Please get behind the team as usual this afternoon as we look to progress as far as we can in this competition.

15 YEARS AGO31ST OCTOBER 2005 SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE (EAST) Great Wakering Rovers (0) 0 Enfield Town (3) 5This was one of those afternoons when everything clicked into place. Kieran Woodward raced down the left wing after just two minutes before flighting an inch perfect cross to Bryan Hammatt who, shielding the ball with his back to goal, teed up fellow striker Trevor Paul to blast it towards goal. His shot took a deflection before looping over the helpless Dave Hudson in the Wakering goal.

Woodward then had a couple of shots in quick succession before Dave Allen shot just over. Hammatt then struck the first of his three goals of the afternoon, racing past Nikki Beale to place the ball firmly past Hudson. His second and Town’s third came just beyond the half-hour mark, again tuning in onto the same wavelength as Paul, who repaid the set-up favour from earlier in the game with an accurate cross from the right. Paul Campbell shot across the face of the goal with Town in control.

Hammatt shot wide shortly after the break, but he was on target to head home an inswinging corner in the 58th minute. Woodward skied the ball when well placed, and Hudson dived bravely at the feet of Smith after the visitors’ substitute had been played in by Rudi Hall. But the travelling Town faithful didn’t have long to wait for a fifth; a Woodward cross finding its way to sub Kojo Ofori to slot home.Team: Hall A, Allen, Penn, Gant, Hall G (Velandia), Baldwin, Campbell, Hall R, Paul (Smith), Hammatt (Ofori), WoodwardAttendance: 245

30TH OCTOBER 2010 | FA TROPHY SECOND QUALIFYING ROUNDTonbridge Angels (2) 2 Enfield Town (0) 0Town battled hard but were ultimately shown the door by an impressive Angels outfit, occupying a division above the north Londoners.

After Michael Bardle had blazed well over, an Adam Wallace shot smothered by home keeper Lee Worgan was one of very few efforts on target from the visitors in the opening period. Consequently Town soon had a mountain to climb when the hosts pulled clear via goals from defenders Sonny Miles – a header from a corner on the right - on 30 minutes and, crucially, in first half injury time, Danny Walder – with a free-kick which hit the defensive wall and wrong footed Darren Bonfield in the Town goal.

After the break, Fabio Valenti had a shot charged down as Town looked to repair the damage, but in truth it took a number of saves from Bonfield to keep the scoreline at a respectable 2-0. Centre backs Ben Judge and home man of the match Miles caught the eye for the hosts, with pacey forward Claude Seanla looked good going forward and Jay May leading the line well for the Angels. For Town, back to the bread and butter of league football, Dave Kendall - in for the injured Mark Kirby in central defence - won the MotM award.Team: Bonfield, Protheroe (Lockie), Bardle, McKay, Kendall, Forward, Valenti (Campbell), Hall (Morton), Hammatt, Wallace, ByfieldAttendance: 517

31ST OCTOBER 2015 | FA TROPHY FIRST QUALIFYING ROUNDEnfield Town (2) 4 Leighton Town (0) 0In a first meeting of the two sides, two goals in each half gave Town a comfortable passage into the next round.

It could have been different early on when Leighton fashioned a good chance in the very first minute when Ben Gallant broke through on the left and sent a low ball across the face of goal but Russell Bull at the far post couldn’t get a touch and the ball was cleared.

A couple of minutes later Mickey Parcell struck a fierce shot but Aaron Bufton turned it over the bar. Skipper Ryan Doyle headed wide, but the hosts took the lead in the 7th minute when Bobby Devyne latched onto a through ball, beat James Hatch on the edge of the area and then rolled a low shot into the net past a committed Bufton.

Around the half hour, Corey Whitely shot wide and then, cutting in from the left, he curled an effort fractionally over the crossbar. But he did not have to wait long to get amongst the goals – driving home in the 36th minute he drove home from ten yards after Olu Durojaiye had opened up the Leighton defence before pulling the ball back for the striker.

Enfield went further ahead in the 57th minute when Dernell Wynter cut inside from the left wing before driving a low shot between Aaron Bufton and his near post. Leighton had some bad luck when Drew Mitten suffered a foot injury and Whitely completed the scoring in the 64th minute.

Leighton had to wait until the 77th minute before registering their first attempt on target when Kieron Birch cut inside and hit a right footer, but David Hughes in the home goal made a reasonably comfortable catch. Alex Woodfine shot wide in search of a consolation, and the hosts nearly added a fifth at the death when Harry Ottaway struck a fierce effort that hit the woodwork and rolled along the line.Team: Hughes, Parcell, Gabriel, Vilcu, Joseph (Da Cruz), Doyle, Bihmoutine, Durojaiye, Whitely, Devyne (Ottaway), Wynter (Hayden-Smith).Attendance: 312

And they aren’t the only ones. With the exception of the top couple of professional leagues, who have the resources to undergo frequent testing, hardly a week goes by without this or that game being postponed because of someone or other testing positive.

Town had the same issue ourselves pre-season, of course, but when you have to pull out of the FA Cup – as Notts County had to a week ago and Barnet almost did – you get some idea of how planning and preparations can just fly out of the window at the worst possible time.

It poses the question of whether matches should be replayed whenever Covid breaks out or whether it’s right that the ‘victims’ should actually be blamed. In the FA Cup, Kings Lynn Town were given a walkover when Notts couldn’t fulfil their fourth round qualifying fixture. So should the same scenario apply for league games and the three points go automatically to the opposition? It was no surprise when Notts boss Neal Ardley called on the authorities to implement mandatory testing at National League level as a second wave of the pandemic hits home.

The other issue that has continued to pervade the non-league game in recent weeks is attendances. Firstly, whether it’s fair that non-league Steps 1 and 2 still have to play behind closed doors. And secondly, whether clubs at Step 3 downwards should be allowed to make their own decisions in terms of exactly how many fans to admit.

The board here are trying to strike a fair balance between health, safety and letting in as many supporters as possible. The very fact that today’s attendance ceiling has been increased to 450 was the result of detailed conversations and careful planning. Some of our colleagues in Step 3 are going much further, as we know, taking the view that it is vital to cash in now and attract new converts to the non-league game while there is still a ban in place on watching elite football, even if that means having to turn away supporters on the day.

It’s certainly one argument. Another is that we should be minimising the risk to players, officials and supporters as much as we can whilst at the same making sure diehard fans are given as much support as possible. Everyone has an opinion (a third argument is whether there should be any football at all of course) but while the virus continues to be so unpredictable, being safe rather than sorry seems to be the most sensible approach.

The other point I wanted to raise this week was the current different spectator rules for different steps in the pyramid. It was somewhat of a farcical situation last weekend when some clubs who had waited years, perhaps decades, to make a name for themselves in the FA Cup were not allowed to watch their teams while others were.

Yorkshire side Marske United were one of two teams from the extra preliminary round who were still left in the FA Cup. However, being drawn away at Brackley Town meant that Marske supporters were unable to travel because their opponents played in National League North,

which is deemed ‘elite level’. Okay Marske lost heavily on the day but that’s not the point. Brackley has a ground capacity of 3,500 so you’d think there might have been a chance to socially distance.

Fans of Hartley Wintney, who play in Step 3 like Enfield Town, were in the same predicament. They had only ever reached the fourth qualifying round once before yet Covid-19 rules dictated they had to play behind closed doors at National League Dagenham & Redbridge. Conversely, however, the likes of South Shields, Sholing and Cray Wanderers were allowed fans since their ties were at ‘non-elite’ grounds - even though they, too, faced National League opposition.

Peter Auchterlonie, the home matchday announcer for village side Hartley Wintney, told the BBC: “The words are frustration and disappointment. This club has been around for 123 years and these things don’t come around often. People are scratching their heads a little bit. At Step One, and given Dagenham’s heritage, you would assume they’d have the ability to host two, five or ten percent of their capacity and have the resources to do it. But they aren’t being given the opportunity to.”

You have to sympathise with such sentiments. The bottom line perhaps is that there’s no easy answer. One of the reasons for allowing teams at our level to admit a certain number of fans is to try and keep us afloat. That surely has to be applauded. Yet if Town win today – as most readers will be hoping - and are drawn away at a Step 1 or 2 club in the first round proper of the competition next month, none of us will be able to attend what could be a mouth-watering tie and the chance to pit our wits against higher opposition.

That’s the law as it stands. You might argue that the law is an ass but right now, in these strange times, it’s very much the luck of the draw.

COVID COMPLEXITIESWhat do the following have in common? Barnet, Notts County, Scunthorpe United, Swindon Town, the England women’s team and, from the Isthmian League Premier Division, Bowers & Pitsea? The answer is that over the past few days and weeks all of them have had players and/or staff go down with Covid-19, writes Andrew Warshaw.

The wet, blustery conditions were as gloomy as the outcome of this game, with a fairly even first half giving way to an exceptionally disappointing second half performance during which the Robins were allowed to wrestle the initiative as the visitors fell away badly.

A Covid-capacity all-ticket 600 onlookers, with additional people apparently turned away on the day, enjoyed an opening 45 minutes of end to end play, and Town put in a spirited shift. Former favourite Harry Ottaway set up the ever-impressive Nyren Clunis to draw Nathan McDonald’s first save of the afternoon, before the Town stopper required treatment after making a subsequent save from David Fisher.

Lee Chappell fizzed a right footed effort narrowly over before Jeremiah Gyebi made a vital tackle to stop the rampaging Clunis. In the 14th minute Lyle Della-Verde’s free-kick was hit straight at home keeper Patrick Ohman before the same player was unlucky with a powerful low shot which was arrowing towards the corner before the ball was tipped acrobatically around the post by Ohman – Town’s best chance of the match.

Bobby Price’s cross just eluded the head of Fisher and, shortly afterwards, Town suffered a blow when Scott Thomas limped off after an innocuous looking challenge. Substitute Sam Youngs was soon in the wars himself but recovered to play on. Ryan Blackman was in the right place at the right time to head behind a shot from Price before Jordan Cheadle wasted a free kick opportunity for the hosts.

Gyebi blocked another Clunis effort and, as the ball ballooned skywards, McDonald needed to back-pedal to tip the ball behind as it dropped dangerously close to his crossbar. Although McDonald was forced into making another low save from Fisher after Josh Urquhart had been dispossessed, Town were giving as good as they got at this point as Nzembela was inches away from getting onto the end of a low cross from the left by Chappell.

The second 45 minutes was pretty much one-way traffic in favour of the Robins. The ball was in the back of the Town net on 48 minutes, but the assistant referee had spotted that the ball had gone out of play. And there was an air of inevitability when

Ottaway fed Fisher down the left to shoot towards goal, McDonald could only parry the ball and Tommy Bradford was on hand to convert from close range at the far post.

Fisher then cut in from the left to fire narrowly over and Ottaway was then guilty of missing a guilt- edged chance just beyond the hour mark as the signs were looking ominous. A Della-Verde free-kick – the most promising of all Town’s options – was headed wide by Gyebi before a Bradford/Ottaway one-two move ended with the ball safely in McDonald’s arms.

Home sub Dan Hector fired way over the top with his first touch after some ping-pong in the visitors’ area, while another Della-Verde effort was pushed behind by Ohman without too much discomfort at the opposite end. And the game was well and truly up with five minutes to play when Bradford bagged his second of the afternoon when he flicked the ball into the air and skilfully volleyed it into the net giving McDonald no chance. McDonald then saved well from Cheadle as the game meandered towards its final, predictable, stages as the Robins managed the remainder of the game with very few concerns.Town: Nathan McDonald, Jon Muleba (Jared Small 64), Lee Chappell, Scott Thomas (Sam Youngs 27), Jeremiah Gyebi, Adam Pepera, Josh Urquhart, Ryan Blackman, Neville Nzembela, Percy Kiangebeni (Junior Muviayi 81), Lyle Della-Verde. Unused: Lewis Taaffe, Larry Asare. Booked: Gyebi, Blackman.

MORE ON-THE-ROAD WOESCARSHALTON ATHLETIC 2 ENFIELD TOWN 0Without the unavailable Billy Bricknell and the suspended Marc Weatherstone, Town went into this game with a back five and youngster Neville Nzembela making his competitive debut up front

FULL NAME: Jonathan MeakesDATE OF BIRTH: 6th July 1966WHERE BORN: Welwyn Garden CityWHERE CURRENTLY LIVING: St AlbansCURRENT JOB: Head Of FX Distribution at First Rate Exchange Services LtdTEAMS PLAYED FOR: Welwyn Garden City, Hertford Town (most of my playing career), Northwood, Potters Bar, Dunstable Town.

WHAT TYPE OF PLAYER WERE YOU? Tough tackling central midfielder. I moulded myself on Graeme Souness! Then as I lost a yard of pace(not that I had any in the first place) I moved to centre-half.

WHAT TEAMS HAVE YOU MANAGED OR COACHED: Hertford Town, Potters Bar, Cheshunt, Boreham Wood, Wealdstone, Chesham United. I’m currently managing the St Albans City U18 Academy.

WHAT MANAGERS AND COACHES WORKED WITH: I have managed with Andy for 17 years across

all the above clubs bar Hertford. And I’ve been working with Dean Austin (formerly a player with Spurs and Palace) in youth football for the last five years, including at the St Albans Academy.

MOST MEMORABLE MATCH AND WHY? For Chesham - beating Bristol Rovers 1-0 at their Memorial Stadium in the FA Cup First Round in November 2015, and then a trip to Bradford City in the next round were both great occasions and lifetime memories.

FAVOURITE GROUND? Non-league ground I’d say Weymouth. Professional ground has to be Anfield. The atmosphere is absolutely fantastic on a European night, especially when you beat Barcelona 4-0 to reach a Champions League Final…

BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON YOUR PHILOSOPHY ON THE GAME? It has to be Bill Shankly. As a youngster playing and watching football in the seventies, I was

influenced at an early age on how I liked to play and how I now like to coach by this man and the way his Liverpool team played. The grass is for playing on! More recently Dean Austin; seeing the detail and preparation that goes into planning sessions, coaching, managing and scouting at the highest professional level. Allocating the time to manage and coach in this way would virtually guarantee improvements in players’ performances.

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR EARLY DAYS? I went to schools in Hatfield and played football from the age of about 8, turning out for a local Under 12s team. I moved to Sweden for a couple of years at 11 and sampled Scandinavian football (I could have made it as a pro if the family had stayed, so my coach told me!) and subsequently the majority of my playing career was at Hertford Town as mentioned earlier.

BEST MOMENTS IN FOOTBALL? Sorry to use ditto marks from before, but this also has to be beating Bristol Rovers in their back yard to reach the 2nd Round of the FA Cup in the 2015/16 season (celebrating with Andy Leese below) and then collecting the giant-killing Team of the Cup award that season at the final on the Wembley pitch from Ronnie Radford.

WORST MOMENT? Injuries - too many to list! But the day I decided to retire from playing was my worst single moment in football. Nothing beats actually playing.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO MANAGEMENT? I was captain at Hertford Town for ten years, so I guess I was always leading, and moved straight into playing/coaching, becoming

Assistant Manager. I then moved to Potters Bar as manager, and that’s where I first met Andy who was running the reserves at the time. We then became a successful management pair at Cheshunt and Chesham spanning 17 years.

HOW DID YOU JOINING ENFIELD TOWN COME ABOUT? Since leaving Chesham in 2018, I had been scouting the opposition and specific players for Andy. Having been in the Southern League for twelve years gave me an insight into the teams in the Isthmian league and it also kept me active in the game. Andy and I always said that one day we would be back working together; so here I am. I’m looking forward to working with Maz as a young coach (who can still play by the way!) with fresh, new ideas. With my and Andy’s 20+ years of experience it’s a well- balanced management team. I also already know half a dozen of the players from managing them before, and I’m also looking forward to working with the others as well.

INTERESTS OUTSIDE FOOTBALL? Competitive Cheerleading! (stunts and tumbles not pom-poms). I have three girls who have competed for the last 15 years. We could learn a lot from their core fitness and team ethic to be in tune as one team! I also try to play a bit of golf when I can.

FAVOURITE MUSIC? Abba (influenced at an early age in Sweden). I really need to see if I can change that music in the dressing room!

FAVOURITE TV SHOWS? Only Fools And Horses. I never get tired of watching. There’s always a “Trigger” in a dressing room, so I’m looking forward to seeing who best fits that title here!

FAVOURITE MOVIES?James Bond. All of them.

HOPES FOR ENFIELD TOWN? The club has the potential, support and infrastructure to be a Step 2 club. For the present team – play-offs as a minimum this year.

MESSAGE FOR SUPPORTERS? Great support! Keep getting behind the team and be our 12th man. Pandemic restrictions permitting, I look forward to meeting you over the coming months, hopefully over a pint in the bar at some stage.

TALKING TO...

JON MEAKESJon Meakes joined Town’s management team recently following the departure of Steve Wales. Here’s a bit of his background and on his new role...

Money is always tight in my household so, over the past few years or so, my family have often spent our break staying close to the wonderful town of Ramsgate which is often overlooked by many tourists in favour of it’s more “hipper” and “cooler” neighbour in Margate.

Both towns are great, but we favour Ramsgate as the harbour is a lovely place to be - particularly when the sun is shining. My wife has always loved sightseeing in the area but her most exciting day would be visiting the huge Primark in nearby Broadstairs, which she still talks about to this day! I visited Ramsgate FC twice with my boy and we received a lovely welcome on both occasions so it’ll be nice to play the Rams today in a competition that hasn’t been very kind to us since the Town first entered in 2005;with our best run being last season of course when Ebbsfleet United came here and beat us 0-2 in the First Round. The Rams haven’t found much luck either – to date, they have never got past the qualifying rounds.

They may have got sight of their local rivals on the M25 today as Margate are playing ‘away’ against Aylesbury United (at Chesham United FC) and, in addition, Herne Bay travel to Top Field to face Hitchin Town.

Ramsgate have put in a huge amount of hard work behind the scenes to improve crowds at their Southwood Stadium, which has proved to be very fruitful this season. They’ve increased their league average from 201 last season to getting crowds of 400 in their four home games so far.

On an alternate ‘Road To Wembley’ the FA’s late announcement to having no fans present at any of the First Round FA Cup games has left many fans scratching their heads. The fact that Banbury United had 600 fans for their Fourth Qualifying Round game against Isthmian North Division Bury Town last weekend but will have none for their First Round game against Canvey Island, who play in the same division, is somewhat puzzling.

In the Isthmian Premier Division the surprise team thus far has to be Cheshunt, who have now won six of their nine games played. They only managed to win eight in thirty-one games last term. Our game

at Theobalds Lane on Saturday 14th November is sure to be an ultra-tough local derby.

Talking of traditional rivals, Wealdstone are now up to sixth place in the Vanarama National League after winning their last three league games in a row. Could they do the impossible and make it into the play-offs? There are obviously many games to play and I’m sure their fans would take dodging relegation by one point come the end of the season.

It’s been a campaign to forget for Harlow Town so far. The Hawks are rock bottom of the Isthmian South-Central Division. They won their first game of the 2020-21 campaign, but have lost their last six in a row, including being thrashed 6-1 at Ware on Tuesday evening. They host Chalfont St Peter this afternoon looking for a turn in their fortunes. FC Romania had been in bottom place prior to the last round of midweek games but moved off it with a fantastic 2-3 win at Hanwell Town. New signing Eusebio Da Silva, who moved from Welwyn Garden City after being reportedly being made an ‘outstanding offer’ to join the club, scored on his second start for his new team. I expect to see FCR move up the table over the next few weeks.

THE COLD END“We’re all going on a beano to Margate at the weekend!” I’m always reminded of the famous line from the classic Only Fools and Horses ‘Jolly Boy’s Day Out’ episode whenever I discuss my summer holidays with work colleagues who are often off to more glamourous places in Europe and beyond

WELCOME TO OUR NEW CLUB SHOP PROPRIETOR - COLIN PEPPIATT!Hi, I’m Colin and I am your new friendly face in the club shop.

My passion for the club runs back to the former club’s Southbury Road days, where I loved attending games firstly with my dad and then latterly with school friends. For readers of ‘a certain vintage’ John Bailey was my favourite player. You could see the talent he had and he made a good career for himself at AFC Bournemouth.

I got back into the groove following Town when the club moved into QEII Stadium and over time I would dearly love to see the club rise as one of non-league’s top clubs and attracting big crowds. I’ve always had a passion for football merchandise, probably again rooted from my childhood visits to the club shop at Southbury Road! My favourite kits from that era were probably the Umbro home shirt which was exactly the same as Inter Milan’s away back in the early 90s, and the purple away kit that followed a couple of years later.

Once I found out Dave Hicks had brought down the shutters one final time here at the QEII Stadium, I was keen to see if I could help fill his sizeable boots. I am hoping we can in due course move and convert the shop into a walk-in facility, so that supporters can see everything we have on offer and to make the experience as supporter-friendly as possible.

I’ll also be looking to make use of our online store and to increase the product range, with the option for supporters to have items posted out to them, or an option to ‘Click & Collect’ the next time they are at a home game. This will hopefully reach out to exiled Towners and allow the club colours to be worn far and wide.

In the shorter term I want to make sure you can get all your early Xmas gifts and winter essentials and will be introducing some exciting new products as soon as possible. We have bobble hats, scarves and gloves all available to keep you insulated, and the current home shirt, the very striking new yellow and blue change shirt, or the ever-popular all green version. Training kits are also in stock, and we can take orders for the stunning orange or purple goalkeeper shirts Nathan has been sporting this season. A few of the yellow and red striped away shirts from a few years ago, each numbered and in various sizes, are also priced at a bargain £30; so take advantage of a chance to wear a bit of ETFC history. I am hoping to have some ETFC face masks available soon.

All this is in addition to the other merchandise you can buy each week such as keyrings, oyster card holders, badges, mugs, bookmarks and even a car windscreen ice-scraper for those frosty mornings! Finally, we still have available the excellent mugs depicting the art deco main stand, there’s also umbrellas should you need to shelter from any showers, and if you’ve missed a programme there’s a stock of previous home games.

We can take payment by card with no minimum spend or cash. Why not come and have a look and say hello?!

Colin

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONSIn staging this afternoon’s match, the club will be taking steps to ensure that lessons have been learned and applied from previous fixtures for tonight and for subsequent games.

For the very latest on specific matchday measures being taken, particularly at short notice, please look out for updates, as well as the club’s covid-precautions video and risk assessment material, on the club website: www.etfc.london and on social media.

All spectators need to be fully aware that attendance at matches will continue to be entirely at your own risk. While in the QEII Stadium you agree to respect others, abide with social distancing guidelines and measures that the club have put in place, and follow all advice given by ETFC stewards and via tannoy announcements. PLEASE ABIDE BY SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES!

BERNARD LIMBRICK AND RUSS BROWNSupporters Society member and long-time Town supporter Bernard Limbrick sadly passed away on Tuesday 13th October. We will always remember him.

Former Butler’s Bar Manager Russ Brown is currently in hospital with a serious condition. Wishing you well, Russ.

MANY THANKS ALAN!

Town stalwart Alan Medlock drew the winning golden goal ticket at the recent Kingstonian match and kindly refused to accept his £25 prize.

Times are tough at clubs like Town at the moment, both financially and operationally, and such generosities are currently priceless and very well received!

FA TROPHY 2020/21Should today’s match finish level after 90 minutes, the match will proceed straight to penalties.

The first round proper of the competition is scheduled to be played over the weekend of 14th November.

In 2005-06 the Rams reached the First Round proper of the FA Cup – the only step 4 club in the country to progress as far - finally coming unstuck 0-2 at Nuneaton Borough. By doing so they equalled the progress of predecessor club Ramsgate Athletic, who bowed out at the same stage 3-5 at Watford fifty years earlier. And this was in addition to clinching the Isthmian Division One (South) title.

In the club’s first season in the Isthmian Premier Division the Rams finished in 9th place and followed this with an even better campaign in 2007–08, finishing 5th and reaching the play-offs, only to be beaten 2–1 away at the semi-final stage by Staines Town. The Rams also won the Isthmian League Cup, beating AFC Sudbury 5-4 on penalties at Dartford’s Princes Park after a goalless draw.

2008-09 saw the club erect new covers for the terracing behind each goal, but on the field the team ended the campaign bottom of the table and were relegated. Subsequently, a youthful Rams squad consolidated in 2009-10, finishing in 14th place, and final placings of 9th, 10th and 7th followed.

During 2014-15, after five managers in 14 months, and with the Rams finishing in 21st place, management team brothers Jim and Danny Ward returned to the club and an improvement followed with a couple of mid-table finishes 12th but, after 2017-18 saw Lloyd Blackman and then Nick Davis in the hotseat, the club slipped to occupy 16th spot before a 2018-19 recovery to finish in 11th place.

After a poor start to the 2019-20 campaign, Davis was replaced by a trio of joint managers: Jason Lillis, Joe Radford and Terry Sedge. Subsequently, following a change of chairmanship at the club three months later, Matt Longhurst was appointed in December 2019. Matt had taken Erith & Belvedere to the quarter finals of the FA Vase and had reached three cup finals with Corinthian. Following the Covid-19 abandonment of the 2019-20 season (with the Rams lying in 18th spot with 20 points from 30 matches) this is Matt’s first full season in charge (the pandemic permitting).

JACOB RUSSELL (Goalkeeper) Jacob signed for the Rams on loan from Crystal Palace earlier this month. He signed a professional contract at Selhurst Park this summer and has represented the Eagles’ Under 18s and Under 23s.

ED HARVEY (Goalkeeper) A former Charlton Athletic FA Youth Cup representative, Ed spent time at the Northern Kentucky University before his return to the UK.

JERALD AGBOAGYE (Defender) A recent acquisition from Hastings United, Jerald has also plied his trade at Folkestone Invicta. A 28 year-old teacher, he made his Rams debut in a 0-1 friendly defeat at Kingstonian in early September.

RYAN JOHNSON (Defender) A June 2020 arrival, Ryan made 28 appearances in central defence for Vanarama South outfit Maidstone United last season. Aged 33, he has also worked with Matt Longhurst at East Grinstead. Previously on the books at Welling United, he boasts plenty of experience in the non-league game.

BEN WILSON (Defender) Ben signed on the dotted line in June 2020 from Ashford United. He can operate at left-back or at centre-back and has previously worn the colours of Hythe Town and Sevenoaks Town. Aged 26, he is another player who has played under Matt Longhurst before – at Corinthian and Erith & Belvedere as well as at East Grinstead.

JAKE McINTYRE (Defender) Another former Ashford United player, Jake has also represented Sevenoaks Town, Thamesmead Town and VCD Athletic.

HENRY ARNOLD (Defender) Henry made his debut in a 1-1 draw at Whitstable Town in February 2020 soon after arriving from South Park. He has also had experience with the Gillingham academy and at Hythe Town.

OLLIE BOULDING (Defender) Ollie, 23, signed for the club in time to make his first appearance in a Rams’ shirt as a late substitute in a 1-2 home reverse against Ashford United last month. He has previously seen service

at East Grinstead, Ebbsfleet United and Margate.

LEE PRESCOTT (Midfield) Another recruit from Ashford United - in July 2020 - 32 year-old midfielder Lee has also turned out for Kent rivals Margate and Cray Wanderers, as well as for AFC Hornchurch, in recent years.

JORDAN JOHNSON (Midfield) A September 2020 arrival at Southwood, Jordan made his Rams debut in a 3-1 success at Chichester City. He has played for an array of Isthmian clubs including Hastings United, Herne Bay and East Grinstead where he played under manager Matt Longhurst. Aged 28, he is a left-footed playmaker who most recently in Sunday football for the well supported SE Dons side.

THEO WHITE (Midfield) Theo spent time in the Gillingham academy and has also worn the colours of IFK Östersund (Sweden) - as part of the League Football Education (LFE) scheme - and of Southern Counties East League club Greenways. This is his first full season at Ramsgate.

MITCHELL CHAPMAN (Midfield) Mitchell signed from Sevenoaks Town in March 2020. A competitive midfielder, he previously wore the colours of Ebbsfleet United, Hythe Town and East Grinstead Town. He made his debut as a sub in a 3-5 loss at Cray Valley Paper Mills soon after his arrival.

LUKE CAREY (Midfield) An attacking midfielder, Luke left Charlton Athletic after ten years in 2019 and has since played for Corinthian and Margate, where he made a handful of appearances earlier this season, before his Southwood arrival in time to make his debut in a 3-0 success against Burgess Hill Town last weekend.

JAMES MORRISH (Midfield) Central midfielder James was skipper at both Hythe Town and Whitstable Town. He has also appeared for AFC Hornchurch and Bethnal Green United.

SOBECHI NWAOKOLO (Midfield) Sobechi once studied at the Abbey School, Faversham and, more

recently, appeared as part of the Dover Athletic development squad. He made his Rams’ debut at Burgess Hill last week.

ASHLEY MILLER (Forward) After attracting interest from a number of bigger clubs, Ashley made his full professional debut for Gillingham in March 2012 in a 3-1 home win against Barnet, scoring his first senior goal three days later in a 3-4 reverse against Crewe Alexandra. He signed on loan for the Rams, scoring at Leatherhead in a 2–1 win in October 2012. In 2013, he had a loan spell at Hythe Town and, after his contract had been cancelled by Gillingham, and following a trial at Brentford, he signed for Maidstone United prior to a move back to Hythe in September 2014. Four months later, he was on his travels again, moving to Folkestone Invicta and then, inMay 2017, back to Hythe before a stint at Faversham and then on to Ramsgate in 2019.

TOM CHAPMAN (Forward) Tom is Ramsgate’s longest serving player having arrived at Southwood in 2012 as an 18 year-old having played for Dover Athletic in his younger days. A wide player, at 26 he is one of the senior players in the dressing room and consequently was appointed club captain last month. He worked his way through Ramsgate’s Youth section and became a mainstay in the first team squad while still a teenager.

JOSHUA AJAYI (Forward) 19 year-old Joshua signed from Crystal Palace recently. Having represented the U23s at Palace, he transferred to Tonbridge Angels on loan last January and settled in well before the season was cut short. A pacey left-footed frontman, he originally signed for the Eagles in 2011, having spent the summer training with Cardiff City before opting to return to the south east and link up with former teammate Jacob Russell.

GEORGE NIKAJ (Forward) Teenager George, formerly of the Charlton Athletic academy, marked his league debut as a second half substitute with two goals to guide Ramsgate to a 3-1 win away at Chichester City on the opening day of the current Isthmian South East season. He has also previously donned the white shirt of Dover Athletic.

RAMSGATE

MATT LONGHURSTMatt joined Ramsgate after parting ways with East Grinstead Town in December 2019. He had previously managed Erith & Belvedere and Corinthian, and also had a brief spell as assistant boss at Hastings United. He guided East Grinstead to their highest Step 4 placing of 13th in 2018-19 before a tough start to the ultimately abandoned 2019-20 campaign.

IN CHARGE

Soon after the turn of the century, after a number of seasons in the Kent League (now the Southern Counties East League) Ramsgate’s fortunes changed in 2004 with the return of former manager Jim Ward, and he led the club to two consecutive promotions.

In his first season the club achieved a double (Kent League Premier Division champions and Kent League Cup winners) as they were promoted to the Isthmian League Division One (South). Summer 2005 saw the Rams picked up some more silverware with the Kent League Challenge Shield, after they beat Herne Bay 2-1 at Folkestone, and the Kent Messenger Challenge Cup, beating Margate 2-0 at their Southwood ground.
