(Rev 7:1-4) And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth,

that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree. And I saw

another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he

cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the

servants of our God in their foreheads. And I heard the number of them which were

sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes

of the children of Israel.

Page 12: The Tribulation

(Rev 7:5-8) Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben

were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of

the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of

Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve

thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

A. Who are these people?

Page 14: The Tribulation

NOTES

There are 4 major cults in the U. S. today that will spend eternity in Hell, because of misunderstanding these verses scripture. Jehovah Witness teach that there are only 144,000 (born again) people that will go to heaven and help Christ rule and reign during the 1,000 year reign. The Worldwide Church of God (Herbert Armstrong) teach that (they) are Anglo-Saxons made up of Englishman and Americans. They teach that through proper tithing they to can be apart of it. They believe that they will escape the AntiChrist in a camp at Petra

Page 15: The Tribulation

NOTES

The 7th day Adventist teach that 144,000 are made up of faithful Sabbath day observers

The Latter day Saints (Mormons) teach that 144,000 represent themselves and that they are from the tribe of Ephraim

The correct view is that these 144,000 are Jews, 12,000 from each tribe (12)

Page 16: The Tribulation

(Rev 7:3) Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have

sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

Page 17: The Tribulation

(Lev 25:55) For unto me the children of Israel are servants; they are my

servants whom I brought forth out of the land of

Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

Page 18: The Tribulation

(Gen 50:17) So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the

trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of

the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they

spake unto him.(Ezr 5:11) And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of

Israel builded and set up.

Page 19: The Tribulation

(Neh 2:20) Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of

heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor

memorial, in Jerusalem.(Isa 43:10) Ye are my witnesses, saith

the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and

believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God

formed, neither shall there be after me.

Page 20: The Tribulation

(Gal 4:7) Wherefore thou art no more a

servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of

God through Christ.

Page 21: The Tribulation

NOTES

These 144,000 are seen in other passages in the New Testament

Romans calls them a “Remnant”

Matt. Refers to them as “Christ Brethren”

Page 22: The Tribulation

(Rom 11:1-6) I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an

Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God hath not cast away his

people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,

Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone,

and they seek my life. But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not

bowed the knee to the image of Baal. Even so then at this present time also there is a

remnant according to the election of grace. And if by grace, then is it no more of works:

otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise

work is no more work.

Page 23: The Tribulation

(Rom 11:25) For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this

mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of

the Gentiles be come in.

(Rom 11:26) And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn

away ungodliness from Jacob:

(Rom 11:27) For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their

sins.

Page 24: The Tribulation

NOTES

We know that during the tribulation NOT just 144,000 will be saved but 144,000 will be sealed

Page 25: The Tribulation

(Rev 14:3) And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no

man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

(Rev 14:4) These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are

virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These

were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and

to the Lamb.

Matt 25:31-40

Page 27: The Tribulation

NOTES

The context of this passage is in the tribulation

These passage are describing a future judgment. • NOT the “Great White Throne” (Rev. 20.11)• NOT the “Judgment Seat of Christ” (2 Cor. 5:10) • It is the “Judgment of Nations” (matt. 25:32)

Page 28: The Tribulation

NOTES

These passages are often used to defend “works salvation” by listing all those things that Christ speaks about.

Many missions groups are basing there motives off of these scriptures

Page 29: The Tribulation

NOTES

The term “Brethren” is used here to refer to believing Jews (remember what book you are in) 12:46-50, 20:24, 23:8, 28:10

The Gentile Nations will be judged based on the way they treat the believing Jew (144,000) during the tribulation

Page 30: The Tribulation

B. When are these

people sealed?

Page 31: The Tribulation

(Rev 7:1-3) And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four

winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor

on any tree. And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was

given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the

sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

Page 32: The Tribulation

NOTES

God showed John the sealing of the 144,000 after the 6th seal, but that is not when they were sealed.

Chapter 7 is a description of the 5th seal being opened.

Page 33: The Tribulation

NOTES

We know that the Angels are restrained from hurting the Earth until the sealing of the 144,000 is complete

However we just read in Chapter 6 how the Earth is going to be filled with Death, disease and famine along with earthquake and hail and meteor showers, and volcano.

Page 34: The Tribulation

(Rev 7:1-3) And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four

winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor

on any tree. And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was

given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the

sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

Page 38: The Tribulation

NOTES

The book of Job is a picture of the Jew in the tribulation (7 days and 7 nights)

Page 39: The Tribulation

(Job 1:18-19) While he was yet speaking, there came also

another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and

drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: And, behold,

there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote

the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the

young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to

tell thee.

Page 40: The Tribulation

NOTES

When a wind blows in all 4 directions it is called a “whirlwind”

This whirlwind is seen in the scripture as a judgment for the unbeliever and a blessing for the Believer

Page 41: The Tribulation

(Pro 1:26-28) I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and

anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me

early, but they shall not find me:

Page 42: The Tribulation

(2Ki 2:1) And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went

with Elisha from Gilgal.
