In This Issue

From the Pastor The UCC Disabilities Ministries (UCCDM) envisions a world in which all

people are included in the fullness of life because they are created in the image of God. To achieve this goal, the UCCDM supports all settings of the UCC including but not limited to: local congregations, Associations, Conferences, camps, and National set-tings, as they seek to include people with disabilities in all aspects of the Church’s life and ministry.

Each year, one Sunday is designated on the UCC church calendar as Access

Sunday. For 2019, October 13th will be the occasion when the United Church of Christ will join together in celebrating the gifts of persons with disabilities and the strides that the church has made in being more whole through becoming more accessible. It is also a day that we, the church, acknowledge the journey yet to be taken with our sisters and brothers with disabilities. The church, should be a place all disabilities, both seen and unseen feel at home, loved and supported. How fitting that our long awaited chair lifts, offering broader access to our upper and lower areas have been recently installed. Although the children have not yet divided into two groups, plans are in place for this to happen. Currently we are learning about all the people who make a difference in the Bible as well as in our lives today.

In October, we will be exploring the story of David and Goliath.

Sign Language Class Classes are on hiatus and will hopefully return in the New Year!

Our children and youth continue to explore Deep

Blue’s Rotation Workshop, designed to offer a Bible

Lesson in many ways through art, music, drama,

puppets, or through story and even science and

cooking. Children will meet in the larger room for a

time of gathering, review and prayer and then divide

into two groups: preschool through 3rd Grades and

4th – 7th Grades.

September 19th – October 31st

6:30PM

(It is not too late o join this class) The Apocrypha: Can Protestants Learn Anything From it?

We all know that the Old Testament of Christianity is the Hebrew Bible of Judaism. But, did you know that there are different versions of the Christian Bible amongst the main divisions of our faith? Some books included in the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches are listed as apocryphal by Protestants. What can these extra-canonical

Books teach us and why were they excluded? This unit delves into the Old Testament Apocrypha and four Gospels that were not included in the canon used by Protestant churches. Can they bring insight and further

understanding to our scripture? Can they help us in our continuous quest to further our relationship with God? Facilitator: Dan Irwin

Social Media

If anyone in the congregation would be interested in helping to post content on the church’s Facebook page along with George Steckert please reach out to any Outreach member.

Also, if any committee or group in the church has photos or videos of an event, function or just information about an upcoming event please make sure Deb receives it so we can get it posted.

Social Concerns - is a part of our church that helps folks from Gettysburg to Haiti. Every year we select groups within and outside the community in which to provide assistance. We are allotted a certain amount of money from

the church to use. Social Concerns also helps the homeless by working with C.A.R.E.S. to provide overnight accommodations here at our church, for our designated dates.” The Committee consists of Carl Barrick, Demetrius Carbaugh, Jane Eiker, Jane Malone, Ron Milhimes, Kathy Murphy and Carol Zeiger.

The Consistory of Trinity UCC Gettysburg met September 17, 2019 at the church at 7PM.

Key items acted on or discussed were as follows: Joan Peck and Terry Krietz brought consistory up to date on the Pastoral Relations Committee presenting their Purpose and Operating Principles. After review, these are to be approved by Consistory in October. Picking up on the results of the consistory’s July and August meetings, consistory reviewed and approved the revised

church’s By Laws. Consistory also approved and sent to the Congregation for approval revisions of the church’s Constitution.

The Consistory plans to call a special meeting to fall on November 10, for congregational review and approval. Heard a report on the proposed new furniture layout for the gathering area. A slimed down proposal to purchase furniture

for the gathering area was approved as not to exceed $9,021.00. Following an offer by a council member to make several items that are to be installed, that offer was accepted, and the furniture cost will be lowered. The purchase will be funded by previously received donations to the Memorial Fund.

The Building Committee reported that the new lifts are being installed on 9-18-2019. The final payment of $5,150 and a fee of $1,350 for architectural design work to get the project completed was approved.

Carl Barrick reported that working space for the group pulling together the church’s history is needed as well as space for a future display.

With the health concerns for the chair of the Finance Committee, discussion was held about preparing the 2020 budget and the need to add additional members to Finance.

Approved the financial report for August and Consistory minutes from August.

The next meeting of Consistory is set for Monday, October 21, 2019 at 7 PM.

The Library has a new section of books about LGBT, Open and Affirming. They are located in the shelf above the sign-in and calendar. The labels are “Rai” for Rainbow.

If you have questions and/or are curious about this subject, these books may provide some answers. They have been placed by Trinity’s Rainbow Group, which meets the first Saturday of every month.
