The Trumpet May Worship Schedule In May, we move from the book of Luke and the story of Jesus’ life, ministry, crucifixion and resurrection (which we’ve been hearing from since Advent) to the rest of the New Testament, which tells the stories of the first Christian communities. We begin by hearing from Acts, written by the same writer as the book of Luke. Acts tells the story of the very beginning of Christi- anity and the story of the disciples’ movements after Jesus ascends to heaven following the resurrection. We often tend to ide- alize these early ministries, but it’s also comforting to know they experienced struggles and conflicts just like the churches of today, and their message has reached generation after generation all over the world. MAY 7: TRADITIONAL SERVICE WITH COMMUNION Scripture: Acts 8:26-39 Philip baptizes an Ethiopian man. It’s a chance encounter where each man benefits. Philip opens the Scriptures to the Ethiopian man, and the man displays new and passionate faith to Philip. MAY 14: PRAISE SERVICE; NO COMMUNION On Mother’s Day, we remember and give thanks for all the women in our lives, and this Sunday will also be Masisiwe Sunday, when we celebrate our relationship with our Tanzanian brothers and sisters. A special offering will be taken to support their ministries and fulfill our annual financial commitment to them. The Cherub Choir will sing. Scripture: Acts 15:1-8 We hear about the first church council and how they work together to resolve conflict and decide who is welcome in the new church. In later May, we’ll hear from the book of Galatians. This book consists of a letter Paul, one of the early Christian mis- sionaries, wrote to the church community in Galatia that was struggling with conflict. Martin Luther so loved the book of Galatians that he called it “My Katie” after his beloved wife. This letter has also been called “the Magna Carta of the Christian Faith” and has inspired faith in millions (according to The Lutheran Study Bible). MAY 21: TRADITIONAL SERVICE WITH COMMUNION (Pastor Bonnie Wilcox preaching and leading worship; Pastor Jen will be returning from The Festival of Homiletics and taking a continuing education Sunday) The last day of Sunday School for the year! This will also be the last Sunday when the King’s Choir will sing for the season. We’ll welcome them back to worship in the fall. Scripture: Galatians 1:13-17; 2:11-21 We hear about early church leaders, Peter and Paul, at odds. MAY 28: TRADITIONAL SERVICE; NO COMMUNION (Pastor Bonnie Wilcox preaching and leading worship; Pastor Jen will be at her niece’s high school graduation) Scripture: Galatians 3:1-9, 23-29 We hear about a church divided over law and faith. May Worship Schedule

In May, we move from the book of Luke and the story of Jesus’ life, ministry, crucifixion and resurrection (which we’ve been hearing from since Advent) to the rest of the New Testament, which tells the stories of the first Christian communities. We begin by hearing from Acts, written by the same writer as the book of Luke. Acts tells the story of the very beginning of Christi-anity and the story of the disciples’ movements after Jesus ascends to heaven following the resurrection. We often tend to ide-alize these early ministries, but it’s also comforting to know they experienced struggles and conflicts just like the churches of

today, and their message has reached generation after generation all over the world.

MAY 7: TRADITIONAL SERVICE WITH COMMUNION Scripture: Acts 8:26-39

Philip baptizes an Ethiopian man.

This book consists of a letter Paul, one of the early Christian mis-sionaries, wrote to the church community in Galatia that was struggling with conflict. Martin Luther so loved the book of Galatians that he called it “My Katie” after his beloved wife. This letter has also been called “the Magna Carta of the Christian Faith” and has inspired faith in millions (according to The Lutheran Study Bible).

MAY 21: TRADITIONAL SERVICE WITH COMMUNION (Pastor Bonnie Wilcox preaching and leading worship; Pastor Jen will be returning from The Festival of Homiletics and taking a continuing education Sunday)

The last day of Sunday School for the year! This will also be the last Sunday when the King’s Choir will sing for the

season. We’ll welcome them back to worship in the fall.

    Scripture: Galatians 1:13-17; 2:11-21

We hear about early church leaders, Peter and Paul, at odds. MAY 28: TRADITIONAL SERVICE; NO COMMUNION (Pastor Bonnie Wilcox preaching and leading worship; Pastor Jen will be at her niece’s high school

    graduation)

    Scripture: Galatians 3:1-9, 23-29

We hear about a church divided over law and faith.

JUNE 4 WILL BE PENTECOST SUNDAY AND GRADUATE RECOGNITION SUNDAY.

Saturday morning (4/22) the CTK Council met at the Benedictine Center at St. Paul Monastery for a retreat. We spent time in Bible study and prayer, got to know each other better, and dis-cussed future directions for CTK. Are-as of focus that rose to the top of our discussions: children and educational ministries, senior ministries, and con-tinuing to intentionally connect with our

    neighborhood and community.

We thank them for their time. Please continue to pray for your CTK leader-

    ship.

    Godspeed, Matthew!

Sunday, April 23 was Matthew Garavalia’s last day of preaching at CTK for his contextual education class at Luther Seminary. We’ve been blessed by his presence and enthusi-asm for the past 2 years (4 semes-

    Masisiwe Fundraiser Kickoff

Our yearly fundraiser for our Masisiwe partner

kicks off May 14th! After an update on this core CTK

mission, a special ‘Masisiwe’ style offering will be held

during regular service. Our goal is to raise $1300 for our

yearly commitment to our partner congregation in

Masisiwe, Tanzania. This year the funds will be used to

build onto and improve their 5 churches in Masisi-

we. Cash, coin or checks designated “for Masisiwe” will

be gratefully received! Please prayerfully consider giv-

    ing to our on-going mission.

After the service, everyone is invited to stop in

the fellowship hall for sharing and learning time. Pho-

tos, artifacts and other mementos from 2007 and 2013

trips to Masisiwe and information about the Bega Kwa

Bega program will be on display. Former travelers will be

available for Q&A. If you are considering a future trip,

want to know more or be a part of sustaining this mis-

sion, this would be a great time to learn! Contact Bea

    Jones, [email protected], too.
